My trainer took a few of his clients here for a «treat meal»… Great service and friendly staff… The chicken and Turkey were delicious, as were the Collard greens.

This place is really really good. I say it’s a top 5 or so in Houston. Great brisket, sausage, turkey, chicken, pork chops, beef/pork ribs, and sides. I take clients and friends regularly and they always want to go back. Love supporting local businesses! This place needs a theme song, like the one in Karate Kid. You’re the Best…

I just happened to learn about this BBQ place the day before I needed Catering. It was WAY cheaper than any of the barbecue spots and the food was way better. I was very impressed and I will be back! Excellent service excellent food and great pricing.

Read about this place in Texas Monthly that I browsed in a waiting room earlier today. Thought to myself, «Myself, this looks like a good place. Let’s go tonight! So I did. Only to find the place CLOSEDFORPRIVATEPARTY!!! And did not learn THAT until I parked, walked to the door and read the small(but nicely printed sign). I was not the only disappointed customer. At least four others in the time it took for me to type this. All was not lost. Used the opportunity to go down the street to get a great car wash at Mister Car Wash!

Russell Roegels and his wife Misty have quickly made a name for themselves in the Texas BBQ scene. After having been open on their own for less than a year, they garnered a 2-star review from Alison Cook of the Houston Chronicle, with especially high marks from her on the brisket and homemade bourbon banana pudding. Roegels is turning out peppery, well-seasoned Central Texas-style brisket that is as moist and flavorful as some of the best in the state. Pork spareribs get some of that same seasoning and are consistently good as well. Follow them on their various social media pages so you’ll know in advance when they’re going to serve some of their excellent daily specials, like smoked pork belly, big beef plate ribs, beef rib burnt ends, rack of lamb chops, or pork chops. Open every day for lunch and dinner, but due to increasing popularity, they’ve had more and more days where they’re sold out early in the dinner hours. Get there early!

The owner responded with we close when we run out of bbq. That’s fine with me. First and last time I visit that place. I recommend pappas, Goode company or brisket house in deer park. I never had a bad experience at those places. Great food and customer service. Peace out Ribs brisket repeat !!!

Beware if you like moist brisket.!! You’ll get grease. Went there for lunch with coworkers(none of us will return) and got a nasty cut of grease chunk brisket. After confronting the lady on the register, she confirmed«yes, that’s your moist cut, grease». They offered to refund the charge, but that’s not the point. Asking $ 19.00 for a pound of brisket, quality should be up to par. Will not return o this dirthole.

Brisket is above average, consistently. Pork belly is also above average most of the time, but sometimes dry. Pork ribs are average. Their big ol beef rib(not sold every day) is phenomenal! It is right up there with Killen’s, but way closer(at least to me). The sides are good — I gravitate toward the cole slaw every time and I’m not disappointed. I’m not a big fan of BBQ sauce in general, but the one here is good; it doesn’t get in the way of the great meats.

I have rethought my original post and have come to the conclusion that maybe the meat cutter was having a bad day and didn’t get the specifics on what I wanted on my sandwich. This was my first trip here and I shouldn’t have been so harsh on the place. I know it takes a lot of hard work to make something like this work and I wish the management the best of luck.

Best brisket In My Life! Most and tasty in the middle, smoky(and a flavor/texture I cannot quite describe) on the outside. Wow! Today they had a special side: creamed corn, but with lots of fresh-cracked black pepper. Outstanding! Highly recommended.

Pork Belly is the Wednesday Special, Lamb Pops are the Thursday special: I get them mixed up but I enjoy whichever one it is all the time. Brisket is good, ribs are ok. BTW, all their meats can be ordered without sides, even the specials: this is Texas folks, just because the menu says«plate» doesn’t mean that’s the only way they will sell it.

I had the three meat platter that consisted of brisket, pulled pork, and ribs. With this I had three sides the pinto beans, marrinaded cucumbers, and coleslaw. The facility was clean and inviting and the staff was polite. The food was OK. The ribs were good, the brisket was great, and the pulled pork was tasty, but not what I was expecting. The pulled pork did not come sauced, as I was expecting when I came to Texas. The pinto beans were a little under seasoned but the cucumbers and coleslaw were good. Would I come back? Probably not.

Ribs were good. Pulled pork was drier than a lent trap. BBQ sauce was on point and gave it a leg to stand on. Green beans bathing in hot tub water. Don’t bother. The coleslaw was different. In the best way. The reason why I’m giving it 2STARS, 4 ribs for $ 14? This place is way OVERPRICED. Save your money. Mediocre at best.

Mixed feelings here. The brisket, which is supposedly their specialty, has great flavor, but had a huge layer of fat on it. Not very tender, needing a knife to cut it. It is one of the few brisket dishes in town that truly doesn’t require any sauce flavor-wise, but there’s a tremendous amount of pepper on it, so you’d better like pepper. The bark was almost restricted to the fat layer. The sauce, which is served warm, is not to my liking(heavier tomato flavor than I like), but that’s purely a matter of taste. Potato salad was decent but not great, ranch-style beans were pretty good. Atmosphere hasn’t changed in years – like an old-fashioned western BBQ place with one small(27″?) TV. It’s one of the more expensive BBQ joints in town – for a one-meat plate with two sides and an iced tea, the total was about $ 17.25 with tax. I’d really like to rate it about a 3.5, but no more.

Pretty much the same price as Papas BBQ. Roegals is a bit Memphis style. Everything we had was good. Good deal for in town BBQ. Outdoor seating was a bummer because of the sewage drain 10 yards from the patio near the entrance. Maybe drop a couple of lemons down there… definitely not a deal breaker. We’ll be back for sure. Also, screw Austin.

Solid BBQ joint. Beef rib(great peppery rub and cooked to perfection) and pork ribs are excellent. Brisket was great my first visit(moist, juicy, tender, but not overrly fatty) and has progressively gotten worse each time with the last being below average(just too much fat and not well cut). Pulled pork has been consistently dry the two times I’ve had it. Sides dishes are all solid and well done. I would say its definitely one of the better Houston BBQ joints. It’s conveniently located compared to some of the other BBQ places I’ve been. It’s going to be a regular spot for that reason. Maybe not the best but definitely one I’ll be frequenting regularly.

I had been to the old Baker’s Ribs a few times many years ago and it was always decent, but nothing remarkable. Not long ago I heard that it had changed to Roegel’s although still under the same ownership. Sounded like just a new marketing strategy, so I really wasn’t sure what to expect with regard to the food. So I went there for lunch today with a colleague and must say I was very impressed. Got the 3-meat plate with brisket, pork ribs, and sausage(jalapeño), the normal trifecta I use when trying out a BBQ joint. The brisket was exceptionally good, with nice black-peppered crust and juicy throughout. It’s pricey by the pound($ 19), but was definitely among the best I’ve ever had. The ribs were good and meaty, but probably could’ve been a tad bit more tender. The sausage was very flavorful with plenty of kick; I normally go for the mild sausage, but they were nearly out of it at the time I ordered. The three-meat plate came with two sides; dirty rice and pinto beans were my choice and both were satisfactory. I ended up spending about $ 18 with the added fountain drink so it’s not the place to go for a cheap lunch, but when I have a craving for good BBQ, this place will be on my short list.

After reading a very favorable article in the Houston Chronicle I decided to come here to eat. During my visit I tried the ½ chicken plate with my 2 sides being the loaded mashed potatoes and the Texas caviar. I also received a couple of slices of bread and a squirt bottle of warm BBQ sauce. The meal sells for $ 11.95. I thought the chicken was good. Flavorful and tender I gave it a 3.5. The mashed potatoes were kind of dry and I thought their taste was somewhat forgettable and I gave it a 2. The Texas caviar looked good with corn, black eye peas and black beans. Perhaps this is what Texas caviar is supposed to taste like but it was bland with no seasoning. Just the flavor of the veggies. I think it should have had some kind of seasoning and gave it a 2.5. Neither side I would order again. The chicken I would. I also liked the warm BBQ sauce that each diner is given. The sauce was a 4. After being underwhelmed on the first visit I thought it was fair to give them a second chance. This time I tried the sliced brisket sandwich plate that also comes with 2 sides. I asked for my meat moist and this time ordered the dirty rice and pinto beans as sides. This meal listed for $ 10.25. The sandwich was very good. The meat had some bark on it and had a nice smoky flavor. It was very tender and I enjoyed the sandwich(4). The dirty rice looked very good but after eating eat I thought it was average in taste(3). The pinto beans slightly surprised me in being better than I thought they would and gave them a 3.5. Also, for this meal I had sweet tea and it was not good. I wound up dumping it and getting a soft drink from the fountain instead. The owner and waitstaff are very friendly with their customers and I liked that. However, my two visits leave me grading the overall score as a 3. You will like the brisket and the chicken was decent too. It were the sides that disappointed me and kept me from giving a 4. I might return but probably won’t due to one of my faves(Brisket House) being about 5 – 6 minutes away. I do wish this business well.

How could I have not known about this place(other than it not being well signed) that has been in the same spot for 20 years? Read two recent professional reviews raving. We went — we tried — we were not disappointed. Actually very happy campers. Plenty of parking once you find it. Very friendly and efficient staff. We got the 2-meat platters with 2 sides — brisket and spicy sausage(which is spicy) and pulled pork and spicy sausage. Sides were beans, potato salad, cole slaw, and dirty rice. First the price is about $ 5 less than Goode Company. It appeared to be a smaller portion but that is due to the meats being served on one plate and the sides separately. We were both stuffed. The taste — all the meats were superb and we both agreed«some of the best in town». Their warm sauce is good(which you add via squirt bottle) but Luling City would still get the nod on sauce. Brisket exceptional, sausage very good(not dried out like Luling), and one of the few places offering pulled pork. Sides were good but no one is going to win the race on sides. Just don’t mess them up. Recommended and we’ll be back. Owner said Houston Chron will have a review out in the next few weeks.
