We were looking for something new to try and came across this place thanks to Unilocal. We ordered a little bit of everything, Yaka Mein, Shrimp Poboy, Boudin Balls, Red Beans and Rice, and Chicken Strips for my daughter. Everything was great. This was the first time I had ever heard of Yaka Mein and I fell in love with it. We spent about $ 55 on it all, which was more than we expected, but I’m not sure if that’s pricey considering how much food we got. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because we waited quite awhile for our food even though we were the only ones in the restaurant at the time and they forgot part of our order. The guy at the register gave us a free piece of cake for the wait which was nice and I did appreciate that our food was hot and fresh when we finally did receive it. Also, there were no high chairs.

Food was great but the floor was sticky. This place is very filth. If you don’t mind that then go for it because the food was good. The fried shrimp Po Boy is a must! If i’m ever in the area ill definitely go back. Skip the roast beef Po boy, its not their best.

Recently visited Houston and found Sleepy’s via Unilocal.Loved it! The food was great(I had the steak and cheese Po Boy) and the service was better. The personnel was helpful and friendly. It was so good I wanted to go back again before leaving but time didn’t permit. I’ll be visiting them the next time I’m in Houston.

You can’t go wrong with any of their PO-boys. These have to be the closet thing to actually driving 4 hours to New Orleans in the city. If I’m being honest, they may actually beat out a few of the popular spots in New Orleans.

The gumbo was very tasty, the boudin balls were pretty good, the roast beef Sammy was just average. The thing that brings this review way down to two stars… fourteen people came in after us, placed their orders. ate and were half way out the door before we ever saw our food hit the table. This place has good food, but it’s not good enough to overcome the lack of service, and it’s a dump, no paper towels in the bathroom either. I’ll gladly do business at places with good food and service. even dumpy ones… they missed the boat on the service.

Was hungry one night and decided to try it since nothing else was open. I got the gumbo and ITWASAMAZING! They weren’t stingy with the meat or seasoning. It was perfect! I plan to go back for lunch today, maybe try a few other things off the menu.

I like the fact that they are open late hours. I hate the fact that they are inconsistent with their hours and when the phone is answered. The restaurant itself is very cold and clinical to me. I only order my food to go. I enjoyed the gumbo(chicken and sausage) and red beans and rice. The gumbo was Really good… they were generous with all of the meat in it and it was very flavorful. The red beans and rice were fine but I personally wouldn’t waste my stomach space on it again, but it wasn’t bad. The perfectly fried catfish that I got on another trip was light, crisp, and delicious.

Excellentttttt … First let me say the guy taking orders with the Sleepy eyes(i’m guessing it’s his restaraunt named after his sleepy eyes) is funny as shit Babayyyyy(in my New Ahlins voice). Some of the freshest catfish filets I have ever had. Cooked to order. 3 mins from my house, which is dangerous. I’ll be bauckkk in my Arnold Schwarzenneger voice. I had the catfish and shrimp plate. I come from Chicago … Home of the fried catfish, shrimp, and chicken. This was great. Reminds me of home. Much love. Oh and they stay open until midnight. What more can you ask for!

I’ve had Po-Boys from a few different places around town and I can say that these are pretty good, but I’m not from Louisiana, nor would I call myself an expert on Po-Boys, so I’ll refrain from getting too much into them. That said, I love wings and have probably eaten more wings than most people, so I have no qualms saying this place has some awesome wings! They are breaded, but not over-the-top breaded like Hooters. They don’t have tons of different sauces like BW3s, but the sauces are just right. The wings also have more meat on them than any of the big chains I’ve been to. One unique treat to all of this is they are reasonably priced! I can get an order of 5 hot wings and an order of 5 lemon pepper wings for $ 10. More places need to do wings like these guys!

Sleepy’s has been bookmarked for a while, so we went after our evening out. I liked the overall product. The food was good and I would guess of good quality. I disliked the price for what I received. The wait was quite extensive and we were practically the only patrons in the restaurant. The bass from the neighboring sports bar was unexpected and distracting. Solid 3-Star in my book. Good for take-out and not for dining in, as we did.

Shrimp po-boy yum Hog wings(breaded) yum Yes, I’ll be back. P. s. How did they make breaded wings without them being greasy? Hooster’s take lessons.

Food was fantastic. Why the 2 star review then? Service was absolute trash. Just moved over to this side of town so looking to explore my food options. We decided we were over thanksgiving leftovers and called to order some po’boys around 8pm on Saturday. We called and no one answered. Okay? This is a business phone, right? I said we’ll try one more time then find something else. A woman answered, *ordering food here* «How many boudain balls come in an order?» «4″ “Oh cool can we add that to our order?» «We’re out» «Okay. Can we get a small order of gumbo?» «It’ll take an hour. You want it?» «Erm… How about red beans and rice?» «We’re out» «Okay we just will take the poboys and wings we ordered then.» Alrighty then… its just like kind of the middle of your dinner rush isn’t it? Weird. Anyways Said it would be 10 – 15 min. Cool. we were surprised because after seeing all the reviews on time estimates being way off we were worried We go in it’s like 3 tables full, very low key, casual dining spot. The girl behind the counter was bagging up some boxes. Me: «Hi we’re here to pick up an order» Girl: «yeah this yours right here» Okay nice lady… «How’s your night going?» Girl: Yeah, super friendly… I loved the food when we got home. I am just not about that customer service.

This was my second time visiting and surely my last. 1) I called the order and was told 10 – 15 minutes. Arriving 15 minutes, I still had to wait an additional 20 minutes for the food. 2) The fries were undercooked and ended up trashing them. 3) the overall customer service of from the point of order to cashing out was horrible. The young lady needs more direction on customer service.

The food was wonderful ! I’m from Louisiana and I must say that the po-boys are the best I’ve found in Houston. I had the hot sausage and it was wonderful. The Yaka mein was full of meat and very flavorful. The prices were very reasonable as well. If you’re looking for really good Louisiana for for a good price, stop by and check it out.

Was in the area and decided to get some southern fried catfish that will do it was on my taste buds so I know what was around me I found this place it seem like he had some good reviews so I decided to go in and give it a try. I decided to try the catfish combo and the boudin balls now I know all the reviews were for the po boys but I just really didn’t have a taste for all that bread, so I decided to just do the cat fish and fries and along with the boudin balls. It took about 45 minutes to get my order there was only three people ahead of me so I was kind of confused as to what was taking so long. The fries were really good and the boudin balls were perfect but the cat fish was over seasoned. So next time I will try one of the po boy sandwiches. unfortunately I didn’t get one of those I decided to go with the catfish and I was a little disappointed because it was over seasoned salty

GETTHEROASTBEEFPOBOY!!! That’s all you need to know. Just get it. It is so F-N delicious. I came here for the first time with a buddy and I ordered something else which deserved 3 stars. Then he insisted we come here again because, apparently, he has been here several times since. And he straight up told me «let me order for you, my treat». Hooked ever since.

Needing a change of pace from my normal Med Center lunch, I scoured Unilocal in search for a hole-in-the-wall. And that’s precisely what Sleepy’s is… A divey little bare bones joint in a strip center behind a(now closed) Church’s Chicken. Stumbling onto trusted reviewer Daniel L’s 5-star review I knew I had to give a go. I took the advice to call ahead and place my order. Smart decision. I would have no qualms eating here, but with only one(maybe two?) people working and cooking to order, it might’ve been a bit of a wait. I ordered the Shrimp Po-Boy combo. First, hats off to this establishment for not charging an arm and a leg for a combo. Regular sandwich $ 8.75 + fries and a drink $ 9.75. You’re not going to get that deal anywhere else. Typically a bag of Lay’s potato chips, as a side, will run you more than $ 1 these days. THEFOOD: The shrimp po-boy was delicious. It’s dressed with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and mayo, but they let the shrimp shine through. And they don’t cheat you. You get shrimp in every bite. Is there anything worse than ordering a po-boy and getting 3 shrimp and a bite full of bread? The bread is on point and the fries were nicely seasoned as well. I(obviously) felt compelled to add hot sauce to the sandwich, which took it from a 7.5(of 10) up to an instant 8 — 8.5. Come at me bro, this isn’t New Orleans. We’re not throwing 10’s around like people throw Facebook Likes out for puppy pictures. INCONCLUSION: A really solid shrimp po-boy, good bang for your buck, and a nice change of pace from your standard Friday fast food affair.

Unilocal saves the day again. Needed lunch. Leaving the medical center. Need protein. Options outside the medical center are few and only fast food. Do yourself a favor and stop in. This locale is a hidden gem. Really. It’s hidden in a shopping center with no outside signage. So… Just drive behind Church’s Chicken. Park your car directly behind Church’s at the shopping center nearest the medical supply sign. Now walk left. Read the next door. Painted on this(at present the ONLY technical signage) is the name Sleepy’s. This is it. Walk in. Order. Wait. You will be rewarded for your patience with a styrofoam square box. Treasure it. It’s yours. Enjoy. Repeat. Sleepy’s is clean but in very humble surroundings. The space shows several generations of prior businesses. The restaurant is rough on décor. And the hallway door leading to the bathroom is missing a knob. You have to stick your hand in the knob hardware to pry the door open. Don’t let any of this deter you. The bathrooms are clean. So as the adage goes about restaurants, so is the kitchen. Sure, this place is due for a serious remodel. But while this new business gets started, honor their efforts and give them your business. Their hours are very convenient for hospital staff changing shifts. I.e. They are open until 3AM. Really! And the Customer Service is right on.

Folks talking about this place is next to Church’s. You know Carrington’s it’s right next door, right? This is Houston, real Houston. This ain’t 93 The Beat Houston, it’s more like Jammin Jimmy Olson era Houston(before he burned down that club)…Naw scratch that Magic 102 Houston. Nawmtombout? Back when you said«know what I’m talking about» Not Beyonce Houston Written all over your face, Rude Boys Houston. Frankie Beverly and Maze, «Happy Feelings» Houston Astroworld and Astrodome Houston. Fresh Fest at the Summit, not the service at the Joel Osteen church Houston No elbows poking out on your Hyundai. Back when having a fifth wheel on the back of your ride meant you was doing something. Getting here — 610, buffalo speedway/Souf Main. Parking — easy when the club isn’t popping Atmosphere and Ambiance — bare bones. Tables and chairs. Not first date material, but after you get real with your sweetie. Clientele — I think if these folks as my own family. But if you’re the sort of person that uses the word sketchy and you’re not talking about art pencils, you might be clutching your iTaser. Pre dialing the 9 and 1. But while I was here, regular folks. Couple of sorors in sweat pants, other folks carbing up for the night ahead. Service — similar to most non chain places. Generally nice, nobody is wearing flair. The food though — Po Boy wise, it’s in the top ten from around the city. The spot in little Vietnam, oh I mean EaDo, and the joint in the Heights and this spot are all gunning for the top. On the strength, they cook to order, so you’re going to wait. Bread was on point, I could see how you might go a little crispier a little less chewy. The shrimp and Oyster were properly fried. The fries were well seasoned. Pro Tip– eat the sammie first. Them fries are filling.
