So the bad reviews scared me off and I had been avoiding this place no matter how much I had been wanting to give it a try. Finally I did it just to get it over with(partly because I really wanted something new). I am now very glad that I did give this place a chance! The food is not spectacular but pretty good. The menu has a huge selection and you can choose cuisine from three or four regions in China. So far I am more interested in the spicy food section and I have tried a few things that I really like, smoked pork with dry bamboo shoots, spicy boiled fish, etc. Veggies are good there too. I have only been there a couple times and still haven’t got enough chances to try out more stuff but the overall quality of the food is good so you can actually take risk in trying new dishes, I think.

Wow, let me start off by saying I haven’t been this disappointed in a meal in along time. Got the two lobster special for $ 18.88 and it was more like half a lobster. Dug through the whole dish and only found one claw so we asked the server and she said that not all the lobsters had claws??? WTF?! Peking duck came out and there were 8 pieces. $ 20.95 for 8 pieces of duck skin! Lastly we had the house special pan fried noodles which consisted of soggy noodles, two pieces of baby shrimp, two pieces of mushroom, some chicken and couple pieces of pork thrown in. To say that I’m disappointed and that the food wasn’t good would be a complement to them. Take my advise is never go there, you’ll thank me. Oh yea the ice tea wasn’t bad.

The service is very poor. We ordered 3 dishes. The first two dish came out in a timely fashion, but the third dish came out when we were already done eating about 40 mins later. Not only that, they over charged us just like what the other reviewer had said. I would not return with all the variety of Chinese food in Houston Chinatown there’s plenty of better restaurants to choose from.

The food itself is decent; it’s not spectacular, and it tasted much better in the past than now. I’m not big on service, but the decent food plus the above and beyond terrible attitudes of the waiters and waitresses really put me off. They’ve gotten our order wrong before multiple times also. I wouldn’t come here again; there so many other places on Bellaire that can give you better food than Tan Do.

Food: 2⁄5 Ambiance: 3⁄5 Services: 3⁄5 Prices: $$(avg 15/person) One word — MSG! I have a natural reaction on this food enhancer… The first bite i took of the stir fried snow pea leafs with garlic, i knew it already that the dish is fulled of MSG. Same with the tofu with shrimp & the peppered scallops. Even though the place was packed, but its definitely not the restaurant to go… I suffer overnight with dehydration and feeling uncomfortable in my body, like back ache. So, i keep this review simple — DONTGO! There’s more places in this new Chinatown area that serve better and LESS MSG-infused dishes.

Went here for a large family gathering. Food was good. I like the honey walnut shrimp, it has a crispier texture like a tempura shrimp and wasn’t all covered in mayo. The soups were very good. A little cramped, but we also have a large family.

The food here isn’t bad. I used to love going to this place until I was ripped off by the owner of the restaurant. She is this short lady that always have a grin on her face, sorta like one of those up to no good grins. I was charged $ 15 for a quart of soup and all my other togo items marked up! Make sure you check your bill before you leave. She will mark up their prices if you don’t pay attention to the bill!
