Chinese BBQ done right. Skewers are cheap, with lamb costing $ 1.30 each(or $ 12 for 10) and beef costing $ 1.20 each($ 10 for 10). Honestly it was kind of hard differentiating between the lamb and beef skewers, but they were both very good. Well seasoned, slightly juicy, and fantastic smoky flavor. Their other dishes are really good as well, and also CHEAP. The muer/wood ear and cabbage dish(stir fried napa cabbage & black wild fungus) was one of the best renditions of the dish I’ve had, better than Fu Fu’s for sure. And cheaper too, at $ 6.50. For the same price, we also got a super legit Sichuan style mapo tofu. Heavy on red chiles, and more spicy and oily than the mapo tofu from most other Chinese restaurants here. Highly recommended!

Price of the beer is just right. Would have loved their food if its not too salty. Their skewers are really salty that we had to ask them not to put any seasoning on it otherwise it was like dipping skewers into a salt. They have this plate thats is not on the menu and it was really good but last time i had it, it was way too salty. Gotta ask them not to put too much salt otherwise you’ll be consuming more sodium than you should be.

BBQ is really authentic, it’s the best BBQ in Houston, loved it so far, feel like I’m China, the hot chili fish is also awesome there, must try !

The food is ok. If you like lamb, this is the place for you. The service is not so good. We were never offered water. If they hire competent waiters, this place will have a chance. I had the spicy noodles. The handmade noodle was legit. The beef noodle soup was so so. There is one beef dish and one chicken dish. The rest of the menu is all lamb.

I recommend this place for anyone who may need a quick fix. You MUST try the lamb skewers and can’t beat $.99 beers. I will definitely be a repeat customer. Be sure to check the times they are open and it does get packed quickly. Tip: Go early for lamb skewers. It’s a hot item so when the run out you’re SOL.

Great place for authentic Chinese bbq. Lamb skewers reminded me of late nights I once spent abroad in China. Different location but same taste!

This place is so good. I love the lamb skewers, this is perfect street food from Northern China. This is the best food you can get late in Houston. I do wish their tendon is harder and chewy and there should be a sesame cumin spice jar without cheyenne pepper. Food comes out fast.

If you are looking for a place to enjoy a good, delicious meal with friends, this is it. This is my place to get my lamb skewer fix; plus they have really delicious food in addition to the skewers. There are even ways you can make a meal here semi-healthy, if you order some of the lighter items on the menu other than skewers. The food here is better family style. Going here with a group of people lets you try some of everything. You can taste the sincerity and pride the chef puts in his dishes. However, this is your prototypical hole-in-the-wall Chinatown restaurant, so just don’t expect super clean floors and bathrooms. I’ve been here many times and here are some of my recommendations: Recommendations: LAMBSKEWERS are AMAZING! I’m salivating right now just thinking about them. BEEFTENDONSKEWERS are usually soft and tasty. There have been a few times when the tendon texture is almost like eating a rubber pencil grip. STEAMBREADSKEWERS are really good. CHICKENHEARTANDGIZZARDSKEWERS I am personally not a huge fan of, but my friend swears by them and always orders like five of these skewers at a time. Dishes: D5SHREDDEDPORKWITHBAMBOO is one of my favorite dishes. The seasoning is very light, it’s a great complement to the strong flavors from the skewers. It’s a great dish if you want to have a lighter meal. D7SHREDDEDPORKWITHGARLICSAUCE is super flavorful. It’s a great dish if you want to eat a lot of rice. D25ONCAIGARLICSAUTEED is amazing. Finally a restaurant that makes this dish so darn good! D28&D29SHREDDEDPOTATOWITHVINEGAR these two dishes are practically identical except one has spicy peppers in it. It’s a great filler dish and has that nice vinegar flavor to it D52FISHFILLETWITHPICKLEDVEGETABLESOUP is quite flavorful and gives just the right amount of kick to it. D50PORKRIBSOUPWITHCABBAGE is a light tasting soup with a lot of natural flavors. D36NORTHEASTCRASHSOUP is interesting. They put thinly sliced french fries on top of the soup. Had it twice, I will probably not get it again. D1BIGPLATECHICKEN is a favorite of many customers here. I thought it was okay but nothing spectacular.

Would have never came here if not for the Unilocalers! It’s cheap skewers :) you get a chance to try every one of them. They are so tender and juicy. The best ones were the beef, lamb, and enoki!

This place makes really yummy grilled lamb skewers and grilled enoki mushrooms. Those two are always my staple when we eat here, as well as the Barley tea, since you shouldn’t attempt to drink tap water in Chinatown. The grilled chicken gizzards and squid were good too, but they always seem to run out of squid tentacles. Might as well remove it from the menu. The garlic cucumber was slightly more salty than usual. After ordering a bunch of grilled, skewered stuff, I realized that they use the same seasoning on everything. It’s delicious at first, but becomes redundant when you taste the same flavor on every skewer. I hope they will add more variety in the seasoning, such as a lemon or tangy flavor. Overall, nice and cheap grilled skewers. Warning: If you can’t handle Asian spiciness level, then don’t go too wild on ordering. It can get pretty spicy!

We were super excited about coming here… what’s not to like about a Chinese version of a grilled meats skewers place? After our meal however, I came away somewhat underwhelmed… overall all of the meats somewhat tasted the same to me with regard to seasoning and I actually had quite the stomach ache that night… the best part of our meal was actually the chicken stew that everyone raves about. Overall, I can see the appeal, but I probably will opt to go to Korean or Japanese BBQ if I’m ever craving grilled meats again.

We went there last weekend, I can’t believe there are amazing skewers here in China town, make me feels like home, the skewers very tasty, price very reasonable compare to other bbq place, we had some kitchen meal too, also really good, first time here we love it, we can’t wait to going back again, don’t forget they also have $ 1 beer, cheaper than HEB.

We were looking for a late night dinner and we found this place because they close at midnight. We got skewers and grilled enoki mushroom. Our favorite would be lamb, chicken gizzard, enoki mushroom and squid. We tried the beef tendon ones but it was okay. Maybe next time we’ll try other skewers.

Took my partner here for some midnight snack. This place reminds me of the food shack in Beijing! First to arrive was BBQ pork fried rice. It’s decent and has that wok smell which is great! And for $ 6ish, it’s a solid dish. Skewers were Good too. Beef was tender in general, a few was slightly overcooked. Chicken gizzard/chicken heart was okay. Slightly dry, but I like the crispiness. The shrimp was fresh and not overcooked. The best were the oyster & enokii mushroom. We weren’t expecting much, but they executed it very well! This place deserves a 4 stars, the one extra star is because they have $ 0.99 beer!!! Considered my mind: blown. I guess this is my next go-to place to get drunk on a budget.

Located in the supermaket lot that houses JUSGO, this place is a nice little hidden gem. $ 10 for 11 sticks of tasty grilled lamb or beef? Can’t beat that. My husband and I, along with my sister had a filling delicious meal for less than $ 30. And 99 cent domestic beers? My husband was in heaven. We tried the lamb, beef, squid tentacles, and enoki mushrooms with a big pot of white rice and everything came out great. The bbq had just the perfect amount of char and spice. We will definitely be back!

Solid Chinese BBQ restaurant in the strip center behind Don’s sandwiches. I had been wanting to come here for several months and finally visited on a sunday evening. They specialize in bbq skewers, similar to the Japanese yakitori skewers at tiger den but with Chinese style spices. We ordered the back strap tendon, chicken hearts, 10 lamb skewers, and grilled squid. The lamb was easily my favorite with the fennel seeds, and crushed red pepper it was a little on the spicy side, but I loved the backstrap tendon also. Unique texture, not a ton of flavor, and slightly gamey. For a side dish, we had the garlic cucumbers, which go great with all the meat. They are diced then crushed and drizzled with a light oil and fresh garlic. I’ll definitely be back to try other dishes!

Location tip — My boyfriend and I had no idea how to find Xin Jiang. It’s near the Jus Go market. Beware of the random curbs, dividers and crazy Bellaire drivers. We ordered the lamb, mushroom and jumbo shrimp skewers. We got a side of rice because the boo thang needed extra carbs. The lamb was the bomb dot com. They had tons of flavors and they were hands down, the best thing we had. The mushroom was a close second. If those had been portobello mushrooms, I would’ve been a goner. The shrimp skewers were a weak okay. They had flavors reminiscent of the lamb skewers but they were lackluster in comparison. I have to iterate how tasty the lamb is again. The lamb is awesome. The lamb melts in your mouth while all the spices dance around your mouth doing a happy tastebud dance. I suggest getting a whole lot more than 10 skewers. Prices here are affordable and you can easily go through a blot of them. The total damage for us was only about $ 18.

Really awesome, authentic northern Chinese BBQ. They are inconsistent with opening hours for the numerous times I’ve come for lunch though. Ranging from 11am to noon to another bizarre hour on the excuse«our fire isn’t ready yet.» BUT, if you do find good fortune and get to eat here, you’re in for a treat. My family is from the northeastern part of China, which is famous for their«BBQ on a stick.» Various meats grilled over charcoal with special seasoning only known to northern Chinese people. This tradition of bbq is so popular, it is actually ubiquitous on the streets of large cities such as DaLian and Haerbin. This restaurant is authentic stuff. Of course, not comparable to the real stuff you eat on the streets of China but this is as good as it gets in the states. $ 1 a stick for lamb or beef. Get the lamb. They also have various mushrooms, veggies, livers, hearts, kidneys on a stick… all delicious. Better than any other restaurant. Their classic northern Chinese dishes are also great such as «Guo Bao Rou»(maybe sweet and sour fried beef?) Their soups are also packed with flavor. This is really really good food. Enjoy!

A solid 4 stars just because of the big plate chicken! Somehow it just has an amazing(and spicy) flavor, with tender pieces of chicken and potatoes. But the best thing about it was the noodles it’s served with! They are wonderfully thick and chewy and once they’re coated with that delicious chicken sauce… mm so good. The skewers were okay, all of them had the same spices and flavoring, which I wasn’t super fond of. They’re pretty cheap though($ 1+), which makes them just like China! They do the alternating pieces of fat and meat thing too, just like China. That’s the secret to juicy skewers ;P. Note: the grilled bread(man tou) is not the sweet kind served with condensed milk. It’s also covered with above mentioned spices. I definitely recommend getting the big plate chicken here. And might as well try a bunch of different skewers since they’re cheap! :)
