I’ve been to this location a few times and the food here has always been great in flavor. You’ve got to at least see there menu selection!

This place has horrible service. We were seated for 30min and still no drink order and no one acknowledge us. I finally flagged down a waiter to put our order in and it was like he had no ideal want we were saying. we finally just walked out.

My 4 yr old loves the stir fried flat noodles here. We ordered it with extra sauce. Meat was tender, Chinese broccoli was not over cook. Noodles were just delish and not dry. Bo tai chanh was perfectly underdone and partially cooked in lime like it should be. Sauce is a but on the sweet side. But with a squeeze of more lime and hot sauce… yummy. Bo loc lac or «shaking beef» was perfectly seared and seared on top of veggies and served with lime and pepper sauce. The steam rice just keeps on coming. Server was nice and attentive and kept our glasses full. Thumbs up.

Finally decided to try this restaurant with the boyfriend. Tao Ngo is a family style restaurant, so order to share! The menu is huuuuge, with over 200 items, but luckily we had an idea of what we wanted. We got the canh chua, ca kho, and a ginger chicken dish. The canh chua and ca kho were really delicious, but I think the ginger chicken was just okay. Will definitely be returning when I want some authentic Vietnamese food, and a lot of it.

This place has been here for agesssss. And it’s because they’ve been selling good food for such a long time. I really enjoy the atmosphere there. And sometimes they hold parties and it really be turning up lol. They serve quality Vietnamese food that brings in all the customers since its at a Asian dominated market strip. AND they are right next to bambu! My favorite place ever.

This is the real deal. A true family Vietnamese restaurant. Lots of meaty fish soups.

This is a great place where the food is consistently good with a fair price. Service will depends on how busy they are. I enjoy coming here for dinner where it’s more quiet and service is on point.

This is one my childhood restaurants. I used to come here very often with my family. Back then, we had stopped in here almost every weekend. They have been open here for over 25 years. I’m not exactly sure how long it has been, but older than my own age for sure. It has been a while since I stopped in, but the food quality has not changed. I love it, and I will keep returning time after time! Dishes that stood out for me was the soft-shelled crab, salty fried squid, pork chops, bo luc lac(shakened beef), Ca Caw(fish dish), and some hot and sour soups my family usually orders. Service is great here as they will take care of everything you need as you dine in or take out. I used to play around with their fish in the fish tank. They have nice décor that fits the restaurant. We also threw a big birthday party for my grandpa here. They have a hidden room that is closed off, but they will open it for big reserved events. It definitely fits a lot of people if you’re in need of finding a restaurant to feed your entire family and sit comfortably. I recommend this place to you if you haven’t stopped in. You will definitely leave with a happy tummy.

This has been a go-to staple restaurant for my parents for several years now since it’s only a few minutes away. A typical hole-in-a-wall place that serves up some quality Vietnamese food. The place hasn’t really changed much in terms of food quality since I was a kid and that’s not a bad thing. At least, they had updated the place a bit with some better tables, carpet, and décor inside. The wait staff is better than Chinatown Bellaire service that you’ll likely to receive. Probably my favorite dish there is their Fried Tofu with some«tangy sauce», bell peppers and onions mixed in. People aren’t really fans of tofu should give this dish a shot with a nice bowl of rice. Something about that sauce just makes it that terrific! Good value overall for some nice vietnamese food.

Great off-Bellaire Vietnamese restaurant with surprisingly friendly service(for an Asian restaurant). The interior looks super run down, but if you only focus on the food, you’ll be okay. One of their specialty dishes is their fried tofu. My hubby doesn’t like tofu, but really enjoyed this dish. They fry the tofu then stir-fry in their secret sauce… similar to bo luc lac. Their ca kho to(claypot catfish) and canh chua ca(sweet sour fish soup) are both highly recommended as well! The only dish that I wasn’t too thrilled with was the muc rang muoi(salt toasted squid). My kids usually love this dish, but it was too chewy for them and the batter kept falling off.

And by the way, it is opened on Sundays ^__^ I recently found this place near my house, thank God! I love vietnamese egg rolls and this place has awesome homemade egg rolls :) just ordered my Sunday takeout! Yum!

This is my go to place for home cooked, authentic Vietnamese dishes. It is up there right behind my mom’s cooking. The menu offers a plethora of choices, however, I stick to the usual: canh chua ca(sour fish soup), ca kho(caramelized fish), suong ram man(pork ribs in brown sauce), hu tieu ap chao(deep fried flat noodles with your choice of topping), dau hu luc lac(shaken tofu), and bo luc lac(shaken beef). The only reason why we’re able to order so much is because my family and I eat family style. But if that’s not your thing or your type of dishes then they also serve lunch specials which is more Chinese style, like general tso’s chicken with fried rice, eggroll and soup. So bring a friend or a group of friends and try anything and everything, you will not be disappointed!

First time trying this restaurant and I’m pretty impressed. I ordered to go & The food was delicious! And the menu is very easy to read and straightforward about what your getting in your order. The place was empty around 4pm, with only one customer(I believe it was a customer anyway) sitting in the far corner. The food took about 10−15min to come out. Not bad I’ve waited longer in some places. The cashier lady was a little rough around the edges but so long as she was not straight out rude eehh. The waiters(maybe the owners kids) where very friendly and a little surprised that there were pictures of their restaurant food on Unilocal & that that was how I found & decided to try them out! Haha Overall it was a good experience & I might try again in the future.

If you’re looking for authentic Vietnamese/Chinese food that is a reasonable/good price you have definitely come to the right place. My family has been coming as long as I can remember and this place has never let me down(Besides the service at times. However, that’s typical at any Asian restaurant BUT back to point). Perfect environment for the family and kids, or even big parties in the back. Let me recommend you some dishes we ALWAYS get as a family: Dau Hu Luc Lac(Fried tofu) — It’s not soggy(yuck) like all the other places. Perfect cubes of goodness. It tastes amazing, especially if you dip it in the sauce. Canh Chua Ca(Vietnamese sour fish soup) — It has a sweet and sour taste, and the fish is really fresh. The burner it lays on top of cooks the fish over time and keeps the fish hot! Hu Tieu Ap Chao(Pan fried baked flat noodles) — Not oily like competing Asian restaurants… Great crunch on the outside, but really soft on the inside. And again the sauce is the bomb. Bo Luc Lac(Vietnamese Shaking Beef) — Small pieces of meet that are cooked in different vegetables, and peppers which gives it a good peppery taste. The meat will have some good chew and flavor. It’s not for those with weak teeth. I have to this every time. Don’t forget the side of salt, pepper, lime dipping sauce(Muoi Tieu Chanh). Cai Lang(Stir-fried Chinese Broccoli) — Vegetables always fresh, and the crunchiness is good. Perfect amount of seasoning to it. Not much you can say about it, but really good vegetable dish. This is only a small part of the menu… But let me tell you, I’m always out of town(Austin) and there are really no good Vietnamese/Chinese food around there, so I am always craving for Tao Ngo. Definitely a must for Houstonians to try.

The best Vietnamese egg rolls hands down! So delicious. My family and I have been coming here for nearly 20 years for their egg rolls and bomb rice plates.

I’m so glad I visited Taongo. It’s located right next to Thang Hung supermarket. I wanted to try an unique Vietnamese entrée I never have had and my tastes buds were looking to be satiated with a foodgasm. Well I happened to see Christine N.‘s picture of a yummy looking sour fish soup called Canh Chua Ca. I happened to know she has good taste in food so I decided to order it. Actually it’s a sour/slightly sweet catfish soup which was so fresh and healthy tasting but also tantalized my taste buds. Yes fish soupgasm! Lol. The soup has fresh pieces of catfish, greens, herbs, pineapple, red chilies, okra and those crunchy fried onions sprinkled on top. It came with a large bowl of fresh white rice, pickled jalapenos and several different condiments. The best part was mixing the condiments into my individual little serving bowls each time and getting an explosion of flavors. Some more sweet and spicy and some more salty and hot, etc. I truly liked this soup so much that it may be hard for me to order anything else ever! Soup 5 Star!!! I also got a BBQ pork fried rice which was average quality to go. My waiter was sooo Awesome and I felt so pampered by him. I would love to give the restaurant 5 stars but I’ve only tried those 2 entrees so far. I’ll definitely be back. Plenty of up close parking later in the evening and open till 10 pm weekdays.

Someone needs to put a space after that«O» so that you don’t pass up «Tao Ngo» but let’s not sweat the minor details but instead I would like to point out to you how much of a transformation maybe a decade ago has changed this restaurant. Back track to the 90’s when my mother and brothers would drag me kicking and screaming to get back into this place. It is in a bad neighborhood, the food stank as well as the patrons, the carpet was always dirty as well as the menus, the waitress by the window thinking a cardboard box would hide her from view her picking her nose, the list went on… and those wobbly tables made me sea sick! Forward to sometime in the near future, this time my mothers and brothers kidnapped me and tossed me in here butt kettle over tea pot first. Wow! Is this that same place I used to loathe coming into? New carpet? New table? New menus… Ok, I can do this. What an adjustment! I’ve been here another 3 times before this review was spurt out and I can say that it’s a decent place for what is in the immediate area. The parking is plenty even though it shares with other strip center businesses. You cannot miss it since it is the only one with an outside awning that sticks out like grapefruit sized color contrasted butt cap of a baboon. You all know what I’m talking about, you’ve seen it! Step inside and you will be seated either in a large round table for a small Asian family of 10 or a simple 4 top. The large round tables are of pretty expensive material I would suspect cherry wood or something dark topped with a 36″ lazy Susan(I’m sorry sister in law, we had to make light of your name on this while at the table, forgive us). Let me skip to the service part for a minute. Beforehand I would say in the 90’s you would always have to bring your glass to the front or steal a pitcher of tea/water to get anything refilled and the only way you were getting your check was if you looked like you were ready to make a mad dash out of the door. It’ is not like this anymore, service is attentive not by just one person but by at least 3, these people believe in a little team work. Yes! A little Americanization to the service puckermutt infused in this transform of a sprouted business will go a long way with me. Thank you for your attentiveness. These people around the second month of 2014 crew really do care. The food, it’s all really good. From the salt n pepper lobster mother had(by pound only, it ended up like $ 40 ouch) to the fried tofu which is just right for the price you pay around $ 8. I’ve come to a conclusion that no asian restaurant knows how to make their fried tofu spicy even if you beg them but I’m not knocking them for this, just keep with the menu version, they tried. The Phở’ that I sipped from my niece had a decent flavor and the fried rice as a plentiful plate instead of a skampy skipper like some places visited. The iced tea was a decent strength but not the tannin strength I was looking for but it’ll pass and I could tell it was fresh. The water did not taste toilet tainted, the silverware was plentiful and didn’t have any water spots on it and the waitress was cute. Oh, did I stick that in there? Sue me, she deserved recognition because of that out of Asian mold service. The restroom is a different story. Some of us judge a kitchen by it’s restrooms. It’s not McDonald’s but it’s not near Buc Cee’s if you get the drift but it’ll do. At least you get free flowing paper towels to open the door on your way out. This is going to be labeled in my head as a «definitely worth returning» bin, try it, you’ll like it.

I used to eat here every now and then but when I ate here 2 weeks ago, I found a roach in my food. ROACH! Ugh so grossssssss. They tried to give me the menu to order something else… no thank you I almost threw up & I am scarred for life now. We stood up after we showed them the roach in the food and was leaving. The owner at the register almost made us pay for our meal… seriously? Never coming back here again.
