It seems that these folks really wanna Become just one more Benihana. The chefs are quite spry, Their prices are high, And, food-wise, it sure ain’t nirvana. My ten-year-old son still loves this sort of dining experience so when the chef starts flinging shrimp tails everywhere, creating a beating heart of fried rice and making the onion ring volcano begin to smoke, my boy’s smile is probably worth the premium you pay to eat here. You’d think, however, that they’d come up with some tricks that are different from the ones that Benihana(BH) chef’s have been performing for years. The restaurant itself can be found in a strip mall near Randall’s adjacent to a pool supply shop. Inside, it is smaller, newer and more elegant than BH. It also hasn’t been subject to as many years of grill smoke which makes for a nicer environment. Their vents over the grill are still grease-free and shiny. The prices, like BH, are over the top for the quality of the fare. They do have a slightly more diverse menu and I recently tried the grilled duck which had a lot of zesty flavor. However, when I sampled my wife’s beef, I found it quite bland. Their sushi fare isn’t bad but it isn’t special either. My glass of Shiraz was markedly mediocre. It’s definitely all about the show here. If I were a child, I’d give it four stars for that. I suspect we’ll be back for kid birthdays. All-in-all I consider it a slight step up from BH.
