I will start by saying this location is 10x better than the Galleria location. I’ve swung by the location off San Felipe location twice during my lunch break because it’s closer to me and the staff just seems clueless over there. I’ve been getting a 20% discount here through my gym and for whatever reason they did not have a record of this in their system nor did the cashier want to take my word for it so it took almost 15 minutes for them to ring up my $ 6 lunch entrée. At that point I was ready to tell them not to worry about the discount and just let me out of there. Then to top if off they were having issues with their credit card machine and had to swipe it about 3 times, and then stop me again as I was on my way out the door after the charge supposedly had already gone through. I’ve never run into any of the issues above at this location though. The food is very good for what it is. Some things are definitely better than others. I was not impressed with the asparagus omelet I had, but I’ve had better luck with everything else I’ve tried since. The ravioli in particular was awesome. It really did taste like I was heating up Olive Garden left overs. Not bad for a 300 something calorie meal. The chicken parmesan was also very good. They’re expensive, but then again so was going out to eat every night before I started my health kick. It’s the same concept as My Fit Foods, but I’d say Tru Meals is slightly tastier.

MOLDINMYFOOD I purchased a Living Social coupon for Tru Meals. Yesterday I went to use it and purchased five meals for the rest of the week. What I got: Greek Chicken, Shrimp Salad w/squash, Lebanese Chicken, Turkey Chili, and Soba Noodles w/chicken. I ate the Greek Chicken which was actually delicious(there was cheese in the stuffing and I don’t think I read cheese in the ingredients). Then today I went to eat the Shrimp Salad. When I picked up the lemon to squeeze over the shrimp, the lemon was soft as a marshmallow. I turned it over and it had a layer of fuzzy blackish-green on it. And that had started a trail onto the rest of the food. I threw it away. Not sure if I can eat the other meals. And the expiration date was still 2 days away! Very disappointed.

I had to come here after I read about this place in Farrah A’s reviews. It sounded like it would be a great place to get some meals for when I’m on-the-go. So, I wrote this review in segments as I tried the different foods I bought($ 20 worth). To start, I bought all these meals on a Saturday and they expired on Tuesday, so I’ve been eating them gradually. Steel cut oatmeal with cranberries and blueberries: Pretty delicious! Not very sweet(nice hint of vanilla flavor) but I’d definitely get it again. It’s a little pricy for a breakfast food($ 3.95) but because it’s totally healthy, I think that’s acceptable. Roasted harissa almond chicken with whipped yams and braised kale: The girl at Tru Meals kinda worried me b/c when I asked which meals had kale, she said«you like kale?» I was like«yes???» She said that a lot of people complain about it. Well there’s no complaints here! These were some great greens! But then again, I am «into» green veggies like that. The chicken was pretty tasty. I gave my bf(who tries to eat health conscious) a bite of it and he said«I’d eat that again!» So, there’s the token guy opinion in this review. The whipped yams were good too… very soft, almost creamy. But I didn’t see any cream in the ingredients list. Awesome! Low-fat lemon yogurt bavarian: This was mousse-like, it was so soft and fluffy. There was a small layer of strawberries at the bottom. I really savored each bite. Lebanese chicken with roasted mint tomatoes and roasted garlic hummus and braised kale: This actually tasted kind of similar(in terms of base flavors) to the other chicken dish. I think it was the cumin – that spice always sticks out to me. The hummus was really good, I dipped all the chicken in it. Yum. Kale was good again, and the tomatoes gave it a little something extra. I bet some of it would’ve been great on a pita! Turkey chili: Good basic chili! Tastes like something I’d probably make. Might not win a chili contest, but it’s still good. And, for only $ 3.50, it’s definitely affordable. All in all, I really enjoyed these meals and I appreciate the fact that they literally fit my definition of «healthy» food. There are no ingredients that I considered«bad.» Also, I got the small portions and those were just fine. For the chicken meals, that meant about $ 7 a meal. Not bad for a well-balanced/portioned meal! I’m definitely gonna go back. They make great/quick/tasty lunches for work!

En route to an early morning facial, I realized I hadn’t had breakfast. Last thing I wanted was my tummy grumbling as I tried to relax. Instead of swinging into a fast food joint for a breakfast taco, I remembered that Tru Meals was finally open; I’d been eying it for months. First thing I noticed was a small patio area for dining. You can purchase your meal and heat it in their open kitchen area(where they sometimes do tastings). Kudos to that, because I was able to munch on my warm cranberry/blueberry oatmeal when I hit the road. They have all the food stacked out in open-air coolers, organized top to bottom in serving sizes medium and small. And if you pick up a dish that’s to expire within the day, it’s 50% off. My hefty«small» serving of oatmeal was less than two dollars. Service was friendly, but they had only one person working(it wasn’t busy anyway). I’m sure once business picks up, there will be more folks to cater to the crowds. I wish I would have had time to stick around and listen to the salesperson’s pitch, but I had my appointment but still promised to return. So what makes them different from My Fit Foods? According to the friendly lady working the counter: –Meats are always hormone free –Organic when possible –Dairy and gluten free meals available –Entrees are international. And I must agree. I spotted items like: steamed Jamaican jerk chicken, spicy Thai mango shrimp salad –Also, the chef made the sauces vegetable-based, meaning less sodium and sugar. They also deliver within a 12-mile radius, and you can order your meals in advance. I’ll be back. It’d be nice to add some more variety to my prepackaged healthy meals — like with that sushi grade tuna I spotted.

I usually get my entire workdya’s worth of breakfast here and a few dinners as well. Tru meals has defeinitely helped me to drop 35 lbs in the past few months. Kevin is always friendly. If you become a regular I strongly suggest getting the membership, it will give you a 10% discount. The food is way better than My Fit Foods & Real Meals 365. Snap Kitchen is on parr with it.
