This was a great small event where we got to know a few of our fellow Unilocalers even better. And what better way than over an interactive dining experience like hot pot? I love hot pot anyway so it was a win-win for me! Lou did a great job getting things together and even brought party favors and homemade dessert. Fun times had by all :)

Does Lou C know how to host a UYE or what?! First off, I’ve been dying to try hot pot for YEARS, and was super stoked that a pro like Lou C was going to «curate» this dinner. Our group of eight or so Unilocalers arrive for a Sunday brunch UYE. Lou C and Victoria M both knew exactly what to order — from the meats and veggies to noodles and assortment of ‘shrooms. This was an amazing dining experience — and to top it off, Lou C brought everyone Asian New Years goodie bags AND baked a purple sweet potato pie! .And he brought all the plates, plastic-wear, etc. Super prepped. If you ever see Lou C post a UYE on the Unilocal Events page, you should go!

Few of my Unilocal friends never had hot pots. So I thought this would be a great opportunity to do a teach-and-learn cultural presentation by organizing this UYE(Unofficial Unilocal Event) at Little Sheep Mongolian Hot Pot. The weather in February was not too cold or too warm; it was just perfect for a hot pot. At first, I reserved a round table for 10 people. But as soon as we realized that we had a few last minute cancellations, this table would be too big. The owner helped us to find a smaller table that would allow better distribution of food and conversations. Since this was my first UYE, I recruited Eddie S to guide me through the process. He is a regular at Little Sheep. I appreciated his extensive knowledge in the customs and settings. To eat hot pot, you need someone with experiences in ordering and cooking. Thanks to Victoria M for her expertise in meat and vegetable selections. Separate burners made cooking different food easier, especially to accommodate people with dietary restrictions. To conclude this special occasion, I shared an Okinawan sweet potato pie as the dessert(with the manager’s permission) and some Chinese goodies in the red envelopes. Few months after, many of us already talking about having a round-two UYE over hot pot. If you missed this one, there would be plenty of chances to experience this popular way to healthy eating.
