«…And I’m proud to be an American, where at least I know I’m free. And I won’t forget the men who died, who gave their life for me» What a wonderful sight to see of all the Veterans who were in attendance to the Veterans Day Parade in Downtown Houston. Mixed within the crowd of the older Vets were our new younger Vets from our recent wars in the Middle East and even some possible future Vets within the many ROTC units who attending this wonderful display of American Hero’s. It was an honor to have been able to witness this parade right from my office window and to hear the many high school bands marching and playing their instruments that echoed all through the downtown area. Military vehicles convoyed throughout the parade and we even got a glimpse of a tank that left tracks right down the middle of Louisiana. It… was…AWESOME. Thanks to all Veterans who have served our country well. Without your courage, there would be no us. Pray Well. and Prosper.

I’m a native Houstonian, and other than the few years I lived in Austin for college, I’ve spent my entire life in this awesome city. But … I never knew there was a Veterans Day Parade. I’m a huge advocate of supporting our troops, our veterans, our Fallen… but I didn’t know we had an actual parade that ran through Downtown and over into Allen Parkway until this year. And I have a feeling that I’m not the only one. There weren’t many folks out, and to me, I find that very unfortunate. We have thousands — THOUSANDS — that go crazy and flock out to see the Art Car Parade, iFest and other city activities, but hardly anyone seems to find the time to pay homage or respects to this important day. Next year, mark your calendars and make it out to this simple yet heartwarming parade. It was a great experience to witness so many floats with the brave and selfless men and women who served Vietnam, Iraq, The Gulf and other wars — along with those with Purple Hearts, those forever paralyzed, and the many support groups and associations that keep them strong. Grab the kids, the family dog, everyone and make it out to this parade.
