I booked an appointment with April and then had a trip out of the country for business so I called April and left a message 1−½ weeks before by appointment. I told her in my message that I needed to reschedule and see of she could get me in for the following week. 3 days after I had not heard back from her, I left her another message. 3 days later another message (I made sure the last two messages were made during business days and hours)… no answer! Finally I left her a message pretending to be someone else and saying I needed to book 10 friends… voila! She called me back! When she realized who it was (she has never met me by the way!!) she said that I was upset and we were not clicking so I was better off going somewhere else!!! That is how she treats new potential customers??? Not very good customer service… I think she feels she has it made, and she can take the luxury of mistreating new customers… UNACCEPTABLE!!!

I was a waxing virgin, but when I saw the Groupon for Winkin’ Twinkies and read the plethora of outstanding reviews, I had to see what the fuss was about.
First and foremost, April is a doll and totally made me feel comfortable about laying pantsless on her table. The wine definitely helped, too. She was especially sensitive to my newness to the whole ordeal and explained everything that was going to happen as it was happening. My fears were quickly silenced. The numbing cream helped and while there was some unpleasantness, I never felt like OMG I’M GONNA DIE. I can’t wait to see how much easier the second time ’round goes.
My first experience was pretty awesome. Can’t lie. I will most definitely NOT be shopping around for a different aesthetician because I am pretty convinced she is the best, even with my limited knowledge on the subject matter.
Ladies, take your Aleve and let April remove all your hairs. You will be looking for new body parts for her to wax! It’s oddly addicting!

April is fantastic at what she does! Awesome personality! The room is comfortable and very private. Love the web site! The wine also helps for you first timers.

April made the experience comfortable, the place was clean and she did not try to upsale me. She is a friendly professional who is excelent at what she does… what more can you ask for.

Like ½ of the women in Houston who care about grooming, I bought the Groupon a few months ago for the Brazilian Bikini wax. Um it had been a while, but April went fast and was very neat.
I have been back since my Groupon and service has been consistent. She uses hard wax which can reduce the pain quite a bit. If I had one complaint, it was the room was a little cold both times.
I can see we are entering the era of wax chains much like the massage ones started 5 years ago… I would definitely go to April and pay a bit more for much better service, skill, and competence.
I also get my brows done with her. She is good at that, too!

For years I’ve thought a Braxilian wax was just one of those «no pain, no gain» beauty things. That was before I went to Winkin’ Twinkies. April’s work is beautiful and painless. She works in a light, airy room in a big roomy Montrose house… she’s a high energy asset to the waxing biz!

Yeep… this is no wax factory. All the reviews about April are true. She’s super friendly and makes the whole experience comfortable. She’s also chatty, so if you’re not into chatting… this is not the place for you. Also, if her website makes you squirm, you might not be the right client.
I would definitely recommend this place if it’s your first time waxing. She’s not a pushy saleswoman, and she get’s it done.

I found Winkin Twinkies after buying a Brazilian wax on Groupon for 35 bucks!
The girl that runs it is called April and she’s really awesome! She has a little room inside a bigger salon called Touch of Red Salon.
If you’ve never been waxed before, April will put you totally at ease and make you totally forget that your lady bits are all up in her face!!!
And she’s really good at making it as painless as possible! I’m a bit of a wimp so for the really sore bits she makes me cough to distract the pain. She also has no pain cream that is supposed to be awesome but I haven’t tried it yet.
Also, waxing is so darn expensive but she’s very good at making sure you get s good deal, eg, on Thursdays she’ll give you 15% off and every tenth treatment you get a 2^nd one for free!
So there you have it, Winkin Twinkies is your new waxing salon, no need to look any further!

I went here for my first wax. April was awesome at texting me and letting me know she was running late, which was super helpful. I arrived to the wait area and got a glass of wine, which helped calm my nerves. She let me use numbing cream which was really helpful. Between that, good music, and being very relaxed about it, that helped me a lot. She is also helpful in terms of letting me know what I need to look for if I go somewhere else (hard wax, no double dipping).
I was happy with the results. It actually didn’t hurt THAT bad; yes it wasn’t fun to get a Brazilian but there were only a couple pulls that were painful.
Also– April lets you come for free touch ups for a week following in case there is any hair breakage, which I think is nice given that this is an expensive habit. Others have mentioned 15% of Thursday: note, I think this is an offer for students.
To my surprise I think I will be going back; I wanted to check out this offer with a groupon like some of the other reviewers as kind of a one-​time thing and it was a pretty good experience.

I don’t normally write a review, unless something is really terrible or really amazing. This falls in the really amazing, almost unbelievable category.
I went and saw April after a Groupon for a brazilian wax. I don’t just buy everything I see from Groupon, but what sold me on this was her website… OMG, so freakin cute! When I mentioned that to her, she said that any woman who gets bikini waxes has to have a sense of humor. That started the session off great!
April was incredibly laid back and made me feel very at ease. She’s located in a house over in Montrose area that is a little tricky to find, but it’s a very quaint and comfortable setting once you’re there. I know lots of people will write reviews about waxing places saying, ‘I barely felt it.” Every time I go to those places, I am sorely disappointed. But with April, it was the least painful wax I’ve ever had!!!
She uses some products that actually have a numbing component to it. So even when something hurt just a little, it never compared to some of the waxes that I’ve had in the past, and I’ve had waxes all over Houston. She seems to have done her research on all her products from the actual wax to after-​products. April is also very thorough and this is not a wham-bam-thank-ya-ma’am wax. She takes her time cleaning up to make sure you’ll be satisfied. I feel like I have found my Mecca for waxing. After my session, I grabbed several of her referral cards, handed every single one out, and one of my girlfriends has already flocked to her and been very happy too.
April is also great about understanding finances. She knows this is an expensive habit. She has all kinds of incentives to get a percentage off your bill: frequent flyer, writing reviews, coming on Thursdays. And she never pushes her products on you either; I, of course, bought some of the miraculous numbing cream because it’s even more effective if you can put it on before you get to the session.
I highly recommend trying April and Winkin’ Twinkies out. I don’t think anyone could be disappointed.

I went to see April (aka Winkin’ Twinkies Owner/​Operator) from a Groupon special. I basically had not gotten a wax down there in a good long while. I’d been shaving for maintenance and, let’s face it, waxing is quite a pricey habit. I read reviews on Citysearch and they were good, and the Groupon price was good ($ 25 from the usual $ 75) so I said, why not? Boy am I glad I went for it! People, just remember the address as you will not see a sign for Winkin’ Twinkies: it’s 307 Sul Ross, which is incidentally where Touch of Red is located. So Winkin’ Twinkies is actually INSIDE Touch of Red, a converted old house (as most businesses in Montose are) and at the end of Sul Ross. April is very nice and chatty, so that you almost (but not quite) forget the pain of the wax. And she doesn’t reuse the wax, plus it’s not the super-​hot-​it-​burns type, which was a huge plus to me as I have sensitive skin. She is very thorough, even using tweezers if the hair is too short, then wiping you down with an antiseptic after, removing that sticky feeling pretty well. She also has a European organic skin care line that she distributes. She has specials: 15% off on Thursdays: she knows money is an issue so she isn’t pushy, which is nice :) Also, if you notice that she missed a spot, you have a week to go back to have her «correct» it at no extra charge :) Great, personable service. I think I’ll be back when the money’s right again – maybe a Thursday :) Oh yeah: make an appointment, especially when it’s on Saturday. She is closed Sundays and Mondays.
