Woohoo! This was fun! Laura, the owner, was fantastic and soooo helpful, not to mention great with kids. The previous review is really informative, so I’ll just add a few things: SELECTION: There are dishes and ceramics of all varieties there, even modern square plates & platters– she said she keeps the same inventory in stock all the time, so say you wanted to create a collection, you’d always have the same supplies at your disposal. She also has many non-dining pieces as well. PRICE: it varies depending on your tastes but generally,~ $ 24/dinner plate, ~$ 17/salad plate, ~$ 40/serving platter. Those prices include all the supplies you need & the firing of your piece. I’d budget about 2 hours for painting, though it depends on your speed, of course. SUMMERCAMP: From what I can tell, Laura has a crafty summer camp for kiddos where you make more than pottery. I’m not sure of all the details but the kids(all ages 6 – 8 I’d guess) looked like they were having a great time. If that’s something you’re interested in, give her a call. LADIESNIGHT: The 19th of every month is Ladies’ Night– BYOB and adults only! Paint on!

Proprietress Laura Fowler has created a paint-your-own-pottery space right in the heart of the Heights! She is full of helpful hints and creative ideas. Feel free to bring in anything that inspires you — pictures, drawing, wine, snacks. This is a very laid back place. There is even a seperate area for kids.(By the way, Moms, don’t think you can paint and not watch your kids. It doesn’t work that way.) Young At Art is available for all kinds of parties: kids’ birthdays, showers, corporate events, adult parties. Of course there is a minimum, but it’s very reasonable. On the 19th of every month, there is a Ladies Night. Bring your friends, food and even drinks for an evening of pottery painting! All pieces take about a week to be fired so this is not something that you leave with when you paint it. But, don’t worry, it’s in good hands. Of all the paint your own pottery places in Houston, this is by far the coolest.
