I was recently visiting family in New Jersey and we were in the mood for ice cream. I turned to Unilocal for help and Shivers was close by. I was in for a treat! They make their own ice cream in house and allow samples. The man working the counter was incredibly nice and helpful. I ordered peanut butter ice cream with Reece’s cups and the triple chocolate. Both were excellent!

I’ve lived here 20 years, been to all the local ice cream places, and I like this the best. True, it’s a smaller shop and their selection wont blow you away. But the ice cream is really good, the staff is friendly, and the prices are reasonable. Most of all I like their ice cream cakes!

I have moved out of Howell, but, when I am there I make a point of going to Shivers. The workers are young, they are respectful and polite. The store is always clean and neat, including the rest rooms. The owner Jim(?) Is so friendly and makes sure you are satisfied with your icecream. My grandkids love going there tasting all the icecream with those little spoons and the workers are just so nice to them. Thank you

I guess I’m going against the grain with my rating, albeit the grain is only three reviews. Maybe they were just having a bad day, but I can’t say I was overly impressed with Shivers Ice Cream. Located in one of Howell’s many strip malls, this little shop at least looked like it was going to be good with a variety of flavors of hard/soft ice cream and toppings. Unfortunately, the two scoop cone I got was pretty… Eh. The scoop of Twix was mostly freezer burnt(maybe not a popular flavor?) and the scoop of Cake Batter was just okay. Upon transitioning from licking to crunching, I literally had to peel the paper off the waffle cone(old?), which didn’t even completely come off. However, the young man working behind the counter was very polite and their prices were reasonable(thankfully). But, if you’re traveling along Route 9 and want really good ice cream, you’re probably better off going two miles north of here instead. 2.5 Stars.

Shivers is a great part of the Howell community, often having fundraisers for local schools. I like going there with my children even when it isn’t a fund-raising night because their ice cream is EXCELLENT. They have a good variety of flavors and toppings. They also have very good Italian Ices. The service is friendly and when you’re getting items to go — when they’re done scooping out one cup of ice cream for you, they stick it back in the freezer while packaging the next one so the first one stays cold longer. They really care about serving a quality product.

Yes. I am indeed a fan. Shivers has a lot of flavors and a lot of ice cream concoctions on their menu so you can leave with more than ice cream in a cup or cone. The people are always nice and they are one of the few businesses that employ competent teenagers. It’s not brain surgery scooping ice cream but you’d be surprised at the characters you’d find elsewhere. Can’t go wrong with a penguin wearing a scarf as a mascot too.

I always come here on Wednesdays for the buy 1, get 1 free and it’s honestly the best ice cream I’ve EVER had! Great staff too!
