We had reservations for 8:30. Two«walk in» customers seated and had their meals before we were even allowed to order. Steak was excellent, mushrooms bland, server did a good job, part time bartender Steve was very helpful getting us service when he realized we were being ignored.

Agree with other reviews about great small restaurant atmosphere. Stopped on a Saturday evening. Had the evening’s special of prime rib … it could not have been better! Great cut of meat and done right. Wife had lobster tail and enjoyed it. Service was great as well. Will return!

Every time we’ve gone we have had excellent service with very friendly staff. I always look forward to coming here! The drive is beautiful and the restaurant is amazing. The charm and rustic setting make it worth the drive. You get the feeling of being back in time in a historic building with a German feel. Everything is made fresh. Also around the holidays I would suggest a kahluha or peppermint schnapps hot chocolate! Wonderful !! I highly recommend the fish fry or seafood platter. I also love that they offer a few german dishes. My favorite dish however is always the chicken piccata:)

The real holy hill dinner retreat. We had three fish frys and one beef remoulade. All fish frys were delish and everyone sampled our friends beef and loved that too. Service was great. Atmosphere, just about perfect. Very cozy, old world charm. The walls are made of field stone, hardwood beams accent the ceiling overall the look and feel is just right. The menu has many other things worth investigating, so I will definitely be back.

Great fish fry and Jaeger schnitzel. Nice old time supper club vibe. We will certainly be back. Only complaint is the need to muddle their old fashions. They were tasty anyway.

expensive, but not worth it. waitress lacked flair and style, was actually irritating. Held off on bringing us break, and then when we asked for it, said, well she could bring it early — made us feel bad, didn’t bring it until the meal came and we had already and appetizers. But the worst part was the dust that came flying up from the carpeting, and through the window that had blinding light form the sunset, no blinds. don’t think the space has been cleaned since the original owners who had Ira the Goose(three families back), and our daughter experienced gagging choking and allergic reaction. She then went to bathroom, which she aid could have been cleaner also. Entrees served with sauces in plastic cups, really at these price points, could you not use china? Or even that opaque plastic used at Applebees? Food quality rough, not a bit genteel. Overall, a very disappointing and expensive experience. We had not been back much after the second family took over, and we won’t be back now. But you never know until you try, we guess. A shame, as we do need more nice places in these parts :))))

We recently ate at the Alpine Retreat. It has a new owner and chef. His name is Steve and was the owner and chef at Alpine Village in Mequon. Great food with a lot of German items on the menu. My husband had the special which was lamb chops and he said they were the best he ever had. The restaurant is in a beautiful setting with deer walking right up to a feeder outside the window behind the bar.
