Incredible new asset to Hudson. The Root Beer is made on site, and the servers are very considerate. We go often and sometimes they have free deals if you sign up on their website for texts. All around great food, especially for the price. H.M.

I only recently learned of this place, and I saw it had no new reviews in over a year. My hope was that because it was still open a year later, especially not being on the main drag and with mediocre reviews, the owners(no idea if the same ones as last year) got their act together. In my opinion, they did. The restaurant is clean, with tables, comfortable booths, and bistro seating. The rest rooms are clean too. I was greeted by someone behind the counter as soon as I walked through the door. When my eat-in order was ready, instead of being called to the counter to get it, one of the staff brought it to my table. My burger reminded me more of one from a Shake Shack than the other«Big 3 burger chains»(that, to me, is a compliment). The toppings were fresh, the sauce did not overwhelm the burger, and I appreciated that I finally found a place without sesame seeds on the bun. The fries were crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside, without having any kind of obvious coating to make them artificially crisp. But I do have issue with the soda, in particular the corporate hype. I need to distinguish that from the food and service, because I’m not sure the owners have much control over that. They have a huge sign over the soda fountain touting that their root beer is «made in the store» and«contains pure cane sugar.» First, technically, every soda is made in the store, because the process of pressing the lever merges the carbonated water and the syrup. Second, it does not say«100% cane sugar,» nor does it say«contains no corn syrup.» We can only conclude that some portion between 0% and 100% of the sweetener is cane sugar. By the way, a bottle of A&W root beer in a supermarket contains no sugar, all HFCS. Fortunately(for them), when unsweetened iced tea is not available, A&W Root Beer tends to be my second choice. Even so, I was very satisfied with my meal here. I was getting tired of the extremely inconsistent food and service I had been getting at the«big 3 burger chains» on Route 9. As long as this place is open and continues to stay consistent, I’d rather stop here.

The food is here pretty tasty, never had something I did not like. Although, the service is INCREDIBLYSLOW! The staff of one adult and two teenagers are completely overwhelmed with just 2 orders on the screen. It took 5 minutes for our order to be taken and 15 minutes to get the food. 2 people were waiting for the food and by the look on their faces they could not believe how long it was taking to get 4 hamburgers and 4 orders of fries. I could see people waiting in the drive-thru and the whole time we were there they managed to service only 2 cars. PLEASEHIREMOREPEOPLEORTEACHYOURSTAFFTOHAVE A SENSEOFURGENCY

Although I didn’t originally know about this restaurant until my mother told me about it about a week ago, I was all like«Yeah! Let’s go!» But when we actually went there, I second guessed myself. Not only did their cashiers not know much about their products they served, but it took them forever to cook and serve their meals(about a half hour for a small fry order) and a second order later of just one ice-cream. The root-beer machine(which generally always is shown as a canister to people with the 1920’s style handle/knob) wasn’t anywhere’s close. I wasn’t thrilled, when I saw that it was in the form of a soda-machine. ANd to top that all off, I litterally froze my a&* off. They had the air conditioning on, and every member of my family was saying the same thing. Although they responded with a statement of how«they didn’t feel it was very cold where they were working», they did turn it to where the place got warmer. I know I won’t be returning to this place anytime soon(despite it’s proximity to my hometown-about a 30 minute drive away). If I were you, please change your course and back off this place, or you’ll not be impressed with it either. There are other locations in New York State alone, and this one just didn’t qualify for any«awards».

This A&W Restaurant with drive-thru window opened in February 2013 in the Greenport Commons next to the Mobil/66 Food Mart. This location serves up the standard fast food fare & combo deals including Papa Burgers, Bacon Dbl Cheeseburgers, Chicken Sandwiches, Coneys, Chicken Strips, fried foods, kids cruisers, A&W & Pepsi fountain drinks(self serve), and cold treats. I’ve been a fan of A&W Root Beer Floats for a very long time, but there are not many A&W locations close to where I live, hence this is a wicked good frosty treat for me! The last time I enjoyed an A&W Root Beer Float was last year in Atlantic Canada, where A&W Restaurants are practically everywhere. I stopped in at the Greenport A&W recently for a snack. The place was fairly steady when I arrived here. The dining area looked clean too. I get up to the counter and order a Large Root Beer Float($ 2.99 plus tax). It took a while to get my float, almost 6 minutes in total after ordering. The service behind the counter seemed very scattered and flustered as the drive thru was also busy and the staff(some newbies here) looked overwhelmed(what next?/why is it foaming?). I was initially given my Root Beer Float in a to go styrofoam cup, but I wanted to have my float here served in a large cold frosty glass mug. The counterperson goes back and the Root Beer Float is remade in a big cold glass mug and leaves it on the counter and walks away, which I assume was mine. Other than the service(could improve), the Root Beer Float was great and very refreshing, which had A&W Root Beer(not flat) and dense soft serve vanilla ice cream over topped, foaming a lot at the top(I needed several napkins). The A&W Root Beer Float I had in Canada was similar, but had hard packed vanilla ice cream instead.
