2−21−14. It has been a very long time since I have been to the Grand Buffet in Hudson, NY. I can reassure you that it will definitely be my very last time. My dear friend and I were looking for Chinese food, so I came up with the brain storm to go to the buffet, since I heard that they have reopened and the food is good. The food to soy sauce was mostly disgusting. I love Chinese food and never have I ever had to complain or spit my food out. The salmon wasn’t salmon, more like rock. I called over the waiter, and I explained to him that the food was not good at all and I needed to speak to the person in charge. He was polite and said, he understood and the manager will be out shortly. Well, I do not have tolerance for this kind of nonsense and I did not want to make a scene, there surely wasn’t many people there, maybe a handful, but I wanted to be nice and inform him of the quality of the food was poor! The manager came to my table and my friend and I explained to him nicely how displeased we were with the food. He said, his food is excellent, very good. Well with all due respect, it was far from what he said his food was. I showed him how hard the salmon was it was like a rock, the chicken wings were greasy and smell of old grease, the sushi was awful,(I had to spit that out), the soy sauce was old tasting, etc. etc. I just could not continue to eat anymore. He insisted that his food was very good and spend good money on it, that I should of come when the food was put out earlier. I told him that he should be a shamed of himself serving food that is old and nasty. I suggested to him that he may need to spend money on a chef! Well to make a long story short, I told him that his food was not good or good enough to serve, it is not suited for human consumption. We shared words back and forth and he said that he could not give me a discount. I was not looking for a discount, I was looking for good food which my friend spent money on that it was not worth eating. I cannot even give a rating of stars because it is not worth one, matter of fact, I wouldn’t eat it if it were free. I HAVE to give one star to get through the process, not that it deserved it! The place needs a good scrubbing and needs new owners with new management as well with a good chef who knows how to cook their own kind of food!

Disgusting place. Not only is this place dirty and disorganized, but they refuse to refill the buffet items until AFTER a customer approaches them and asks for it! The food itself is on the extremely low-end of «Chinese food», if it even qualifies to be called that. As if the food wasn’t awful enough, the sloppiness factor is high here. I found the most dangerous place in terms of uncleanliness to be their self-serve hard ice cream section — stuck into a dark corner and with everyone sticking their filthy hands into the ice cream buckets, not to mention the sauces spilled all over the fixins area. UGH! The final straw came when I saw a full-sized cockroach crawling on the freezer, of all places! If the roaches here are so bold as to emerge in broad daylight at a buffet restaurant to sample the ice cream, of all things, then God only knows how many of them are running rampant in the kitchen! That did it for us. Sadly, most of the people living up there don’t even know and/or have never in their lives eaten quality Chinese food, and therefore, ignorantly believe this place is «good». Add the fact that there are hardly any restaurants of any sort in this area to begin with, so locals are forced to endure this dive, which, in my opinion, should have been closed by the Health Department years ago. It’s sad how some will eat at a place they know its lousy, simply because there’s nowhere else to go.

Probably one of the most disgusting meals I have ever choked down. Food must have been sitting in steam trays for SEVERAL hours. Selection is dreadful, salad bar consists of lettuce, cucumbers and pudding. I feel sick already, but I will force my body to keep it in due to the $ 13 I spent on the meal. Exterior of building looks like an abandoned Family Dollar, and there has got to be smoother parking lots in Afghanistan. The icing on the cake was the child screaming«I want ice cream» for 15 minutes. Bravo.

This is definitely one of our family’s favorite restaraunts. we have been here several times and it’s always lovely. The service is always very polite and friendly and the food is almost always spectacular. The atmosphere isn’t super and the parking is pretty crappy but it’s still one of my favorite restaraunts. :)

This is a true and happy story about a lucky fortune. I’ve been to the Grand Buffet in Hudson a few times for dinner over the years and a dinner visit back in 2004 brought me excellent luck. The building looks like a hole from the outside with tight parking on the side. The food offerings on the buffet stations are very similar to the offerings at the Super Buffet in East Greenbush. Over 100 items are offered on the buffet including the popular Chinese dishes(fried rice, lo mein noodles, beef & broccoli, sesame chicken, dumplings, mixed vegetables, & more), fried foods, seafood, crab legs(dinner), BBQ spare ribs, teriyaki, stuffed mushrooms, pizza, soups, salads, sushi, and desserts(cookies, apple pie, jello, fruit) including Yasgur Farms hard ice cream. The food here is on the greasy side, but tastes pretty decent. The service here is good(my soft drink cup is refilled and used dishes are cleared while I’m up at the buffet getting more food). BUFFETPRICES(in 2011): Lunch(Mon-Sat 11AM-3:30PM): Adult $ 6.49/Child under 10 $ 4.49 Dinner(Mon-Thurs 3:30PM-9:30PM): Adult $ 10.49/Child under 10 $ 5.49 Dinner(Fri-Sat 3:30PM-10:30PM): Adult $ 11.49/Child under 10 $ 6.49 Sunday All Day Dinner(11AM-9:30PM): Adult $ 10.49/Child under 10 $ 5.49 Children under 3: FREE; Seniors over 65: 10 percent off Soft Drink $ 1.59 with free refill CARRY-OUT: Lunch Box($ 4.25/lb); Dinner Box($ 5.25/lb); Seafood Box($ 7.95/lb) I would normally give a place like this three stars, but this particular restaurant gets«two extra stars.» Here’s why! Okay, back in June 2004, I was driving back to Albany from Fishkill(I attended KFest) via Route 9 and stopped for Sunday night dinner at Grand Buffet in Hudson, since I was very hungry and wanted to get the«most bang for the buck.» The food tasted good and was filling and I enjoyed my meal. I was given the check with a fortune cookie as I finished my ice cream and apple pie. I crack open the fortune cookie and it read: «Something good is coming soon in the mail.» I saved the fortune and put it in my wallet. I drove to Albany after dinner so I could some good rest and then drove 2.5 hours to my job in Framingham, MA the next day. About 4 hours after starting my shift, a thin letter envelope from a state licensing board arrived to my work mailbox. I was nervously shaking because I had taken a very long and very difficult examination seven weeks beforehand and these must be the results inside the envelope. I decided to calmly walk out of the building with the letter and I take out the little«fortune» from the night before. I held up the«fortune» to the letter and carefully opened the sealed envelope. The official letter from the state confirmed I had passed my examination for professional licensure and the«fortune» from the Grand Buffet was definitely true: «Something good is coming soon in the mail.» My coworkers and bosses congratulated me on my achievement and I chanted, «Thank you very much Grand Buffet of Hudson, New York!» I still believe that great and lucky things can happen from reading fortune cookie fortunes. I did not hit the powerball that day, but I sure felt like it! This is my belated 2400th review, Unilocal #2407!
