Hudson Wine Merchants

I did not actually purchase anything at this store, that’s why my five star review is especially noteworthy. Last fall, my husband and I were crossing the street in front of Hudson Wine Merchants when I slipped (NOT their fault, it was my shoes) and we thought my ankle was broken. (Turned out to be a wicked sprain.) I found refuge at the bench in front of Hudson Wine Merchants. Not only did the kind girl working that night provide my husband ice from her own lunch box, she gave us plastic bags from the store to put it in. Due to her kindness, I was able to ice, wrap, and elevate my ankle while my husband retrieved our car. I’ve no doubt her quick response to help hastened my recovery and salvaged our weekend. I should add, she did all of this while continuing to help her paying customers. I will always support a business with such customer service and applaud the management that encourages it. Thank you.

This place is by far the best Wine Shop I have ever been to. Michael, the owner, is the most passionate and knowledgeable person I have come across.
The guy is an encyclopedia.
I first met Michael in this little town of Hudson two or three years ago. I walked into the wine store and asked him to help me discover white wines.
He was able to describe to me the different varietals, the differences between regions, producers, years, and terrior. The guy knows everything.
He has wines that will cost you 10 bucks up to whatever you are looking for.
I live in Manhattan and take advantage of his free delivery to NYC on certain days of the week.
Not because he has wines that no one else has, though he does, its because even pairs wines for my dinner parties.
I am a professional cook and when I had my restaurant, he did my wine pairings at my place. Not to mention he does several of the wine programs for restaurants around NYC.
I know this reads like some informercial but, I am not related to this guy,
He is really the best at his job and he deserves the props.
Seriously, this is in my opinion the best wine shop in the country…

We used Hudson Wine Merchants to purchase our wine and alcohol for our wedding at the Hudson Basilica. They had great wines and alcohols and a great range of prices. Michael was one of our favorite vendors. He was honest, informative and very helpful in determining what and how much we needed. It was a pleasure working with him and we highly recommend using Hudson Wine Merchants for an event or just stopping in to grab a nice bottle of wine.

While in Hudson for a wedding I was searching for a nice wine to enjoy at our B&B. Unilocal comes through big time. The store was orderly and good size. The proprietor was warm and greeted me as I entered. He asked what I was looking for and made several suggestions. He was knowledgable and accommodating. He rang me up and I asked him where I should go for some cheese and meats to pair with my wine. He suggested a shoppe right up the street «Olde Hudson» shoppe which turned out to be exactly what I was looking for. Great service and a great selection of wines.

A few more stars are necessary to really convey how wonderful HWM is! If you love wine, there is no shop like it. The selection is incomparable and browsing is an education in wine and an opportunity to sample some of the finest vineyards, producers and importers. Michael and his staff never fail to identify the perfect wine for any taste or occasion. Need a memorable gift for someone special? This is the place. They assembled a case as a wedding gift that delighted a recent bride and groom and stood out as one of their more original, personal and enjoyable gifts.“Picking Michael’s brain” is almost as enjoyable as savoring a new wine selection.

We love Michael and Hudson Wine Merchants. We live in Tivoli which is about 30 minutes south of Hudson, NY and I can tell you it’s worth a drive.
Michael knows a lot about wine and shares his expertise in a friendly, down to earth way. They’ve got a good inventory, but the real magic is Michael’s ability to help you find a great bottle of wine. I’ve never been to a better wine shop anywhere. In fact, I’ve been to very few retail stores in any category this pleasant to do business with.

Just tell Michael, the owner, what you like (a label or a taste profile) and what you want to spend and he’ll pick something for you that’s new, exciting, and will expand your palate.
There’s also a special room of rarities and reserves that I could spend all day in!
There also carry some interesting and different spirits and liqueurs.
They deliver, they have a wine club, they have tastings and special industry guests… It’s all here

Always such a nice experience whenever I pop in here for a bottle of bubbly. The staff are just the sweetest, and there is always a great selection in an otherwise wine desert area.

Wow. Spent an incredible day in Hudson with my mother and stopped in here between strolling the streets window shopping and dinner at Daba. Came in on the recommendation of Shauna Lee up the street. I have never seen such a selection of fun, obscure wines and varieties to date. I live in NYC and have yet to discover such enthusiastic, helpful people. I have looked high and low for a particular sparkling spanish white we purchased here and cannot find it. Also, the Australian Vermentino was excellent. Prices are incredibly reasonable. I will be taking advantage of their free delivery to NYC on certain days of the week and hope to be back in the store soon. What a lovely shop indeed!

The best wine shop anywhere, yes anywhere. I live in NYC and Hudson and have bought wine around the world. The folks here are like family — Michael, Kathleen and Erin in particular take the care to get to know you on all levels and their recommendations are always GREAT. And the wine club? Best deal around.

Great selection. Super helpful. Not pretentious. A wine store trifecta.

I am new to wine and so far love presecco and most reds. One of the sales girls recommended a Cava and a sparkling red. The Cava was not bad but I prefer presecco. Now the red… was amazing. My husband is not big on wine but also enjoyed it. I have the name posted on my fridge so I can pick up another bottle.

This is the best wine store around. Michael the store owner is incredibly knowledgable, helpful, and will help you pick out the perfect wine without up selling you. The staff are extremely detailed, helpful, and know their wines too.
Do you need a few cases delivered to your apartment in NYC? No problem.
