At first glance, this place looks like a prison with its block construction and battleship gray color scheme, but it really is a motel. Your cell… er…room is small but adequate for a cheap room. And cheap, it is with a rate far below typical roadside motels. Each room includes a dorm-size refrigerator and a microwave oven. Inexplicably, there is no hair dryer nor in-room coffee maker. I also notice little things, like staying two nights and the toiletries were not replenished after the first night. My room had only a shower, but rooms are available with full bathrooms. Unless you’re on the second floor in the addition, you car is just a step outside your room’s door. It’s not the Ritz, by any means, but if all you need is a place to lay your head on a road trip, the price is right.

What a wonderful surprise in this hotel. We were looking for an inexpensive option rather than staying downtown Minneapolis/St Paul. So, for the exact cost of the lowest priced ‘cheap’ motel in the cities, we got two nights here. It is a motel, so there is nothing flashy about the outside. We got a confirmation call from the owners a few days before our stay and when I called them back to let them know we would be arrived late(midnight), they were quite friendly. Upon arrival, we buzzed the manager’s door and they were right there to check us in with no wait. Pleasant and welcoming!!! A definite plus at that hour. The room, we had a non-smoking, King bed room was nice sized, the carpets were plush, it smelled nice and it was SUPERCLEAN! I could not find a mold spot, dirty mark, etc. There was a large, wide-screen flat panel TV, the high speed internet was actually high speed and it was quaint and lovely. There was also mini fridge and microwave in each room. With my back issues, the only negative that I had was that the bed was extremely firm, a bit too much for my tastes, but considering that many times you get a bed that sags or it outright lumpy, it was nice! I would stay here anytime I come into the area. The pride of the owners is apparent and I hope they keep the level of cleanliness and care. The owners were extremely friendly as well and I cannot say enough about how far that goes with me. Huge value for the price! Thank you Royal Inn!

After spending a week camping in the Canadian bush we were headed home and searching for inexpensive lodging for the night. The Royal Inn is not easy to get to. You have to drive about ¼ mile down the frontage road. But it’s worth it. Try to get a room on the back side as the front row could get some road noise. Our room looked newly renovated and even had a large wide screen LGTV. The view out the back window was of a quiet residential neighborhood. The only cons were my morning shower seemed tepid. Either there wasn’t enough hot water or the anti scald valve needs adjusting. Some floor noises from the room above but that’s was minor. All in all a great value in Hudson!

Now that I have Unilocal,I’ll take you on a trip down bad memory lane… Stayed here for a night out on the town with a party bus for a birthday. The owners told a group of three 30 year olds that we could not throw a party in the room, so we responded that we were leaving and coming back to sleep later. While waiting to be picked up by the bus they called the room & threatened to call the police… They also charged me an additional $ 10 for having 3 people in the room, even though the 3rd friend was picked up by his wife & didn’t stay the night. Don’t bother with this place spend another $ 20 elsewhere.
