This place was recommended by the Houston Airport Marriott. Girl answering phone was not particularly knowledgeable about the menu. I ordered the steamed white fish with ginger, green onions, and asparagus, sauce on side. I asked if the chicken and rice soup was a thin broth and was told yes and that it came with vegetables. Order arrived a few minutes after the specified time of 50 minutes. Food was well-packed in Tupperware and warm. I had asked for chop sticks. No utensils or chopsticks were included in order, and no napkins either. The fish was good, with thinly sliced green onions, ginger, and carrot shavings. The fish was a tasty healthy choice that was flavorful enough without the included sauce, a dark teriyaki style. The soup was a thick mess of mushy rice with 6 peas and 7 pieces of minuscule diced carrots. So much for the, «with vegetables.» The tiny bits of chicken were no way real chicken and resembled a soy chicken-like byproduct. The flavor was indeed good, but they need to use ¼ the rice and have mainly broth to make this appetizing. Oh, and yeah, actually use real chicken. Even at $ 2.50 it was a waste of money as I took two bites with my one fork I dug out of my luggage. It was more like a gumbo-egg drop soup consistency than any kind of Chicken Chinese soup I ever had. In fact, now that I think of it, maybe it was egg drop soup and they messed up. In conclusion, it was gross. The two items with tip came to $ 20. It was a tad expensive for what I received.

Looking to see if good Chinese food is in Humble and saw the reviews of China River so had to taste for myself. 1st– they don’t serve alcohol so if you have a hankering for some Tsing Tao as we did– get take out. Service was attentive– nothing special. The lunch-dinner specials on the 1st page look liked the best bet to try the place out. My wife got the shrimp and garlic while I tried the Kung Poa chicken and shrimp. She did like the shrimp and garlic although she wasn’t expecting the sauce to be sweet. However my chicken had a very soft consistency– I like a firm texture in chicken as opposed to an almost fat like feel. I was very turned off by it although the shrimp, peanuts and the veggies were all very good. Not sure what they do to their chicken to get it like that but I won’t be touching anything with chicken at their shop in the future. Egg roll was meh(what is it about egg rolls that stretch a chinese restaurants skills?). Egg drop soup was good. Overall it was ok, nothing to rave about.

I’ve been here five times. Excellent service and very polite staff. Mongolian Triple Delight is my favorite dish. The beef and chicken are very tender. The Kung Pao is also quite nice. Probably my favorite Kung Pao in the area.

I have been here several times before and a male always took my order with no problems. Today a woman took the takeout order and the entire order was wrong. Part of my order was Egg Foo Young, no vegetables. Before leaving, I opened the box, saw white onions and put it in the woman’s hand. I informed her I was not happy that my order is wrong and what if there’s onions in the patties. She told to call her if the patties have onions and she will credit me on my next order. When I called to tell her there were more white onions in the Egg Foo Young, everything changed. I was first told to drive all the way back to the restaurant to return the food. I told her that wasn’t what she told me during the 10 minutes we were discussing the order being wrong inside the restaurant and when I saw it had onions, I threw the food in the trash because it wasn’t going to get eaten. Then the MANAGER told me to get the FOOD out of the TRASH!!! I was astounded that I was just told to dig in the trash and get broken up pieces of EGGFOOYOUNG. A lot of my coworkers order from this place and I will surely tell about this horrible experience and I will not be coming back!!!

Um yea not so good Chinese food. Ordered kun pau chicken and not sure if the meat was chicken, had an odd taste and was like thin squares paper. Seemed like they were being cheap and skimpy with the meat… I visit Houston regularly for business and will make it point not to eat here again… Missed an entire day of work sitting on the toilet! I feel sorry for you local folks cause you don’t have good Chinese food…

This place is hands down the best Chinese food in the area. I have never had a bad experience here whether I was ordering take out, dining in, or getting a delivery. The food is always consistently great and always piping hot. The general tso chicken, Mongolian triple delight, and hong sui tofu are my favorites for sure. you also can’t go wrong with the fried rice or lo mein. definitely come and get food from here when you get the chance. you won’t regret it!

1÷15÷2013 In MY opinion, China River is the best in Humble. Rather it’s dine in, carry out or delivery. Their food is always hot and delish. I love their veggie lo mein.

Man, Google reviews were amazing for this place. I don’t know if I should alter my perception of Google reviews or what, because it was way off what I perceived. We were told by the lady bussing tables to please sit towards the back because she had just finished cleaning the front. What? It was empty when we came in. After we were seated we got a bowl of crunchy egg noodle strips. I proceeded to hear loud Chinese(both Cantonese and Mandarin, btw) conservation about pricing and other strange topics. Dinner specials are about 6.95−7.50. Specials come with rice, an egg roll, and a soup. The bf got Mongolian trio I got the chicken chow mein. Both the wonton soup and sweet and sour were underwhelming. My hot and sour was neither hot nor sour(traits typically from the edition of vinegar and chili). My main dish was still underwhelming. I was expecting wok fried soy sauce egg noodles with chicken and some veggies– I got some strange overly oiled cabbage and chicken combo with rice and some fried egg noodle topping(like you put on salads). Major disappointment. Bf’s dish was more of what I was expecting mine to be like– had a little wok hai(that taste you get from a properly oiled and heated wok), but not much. To finish, every dish was overly sweet, like that strange after taste you get when you eat something with a lot of MSG. I’m a Chinese food snob mainly because I come from a family who cooks very, very good homemade Chinese food. This place probably never had a chance from when I walked through the door. However, I try to be less critical when it comes to these joints. Hell, I’ll even frequent Chinese buffets regularly without too much complaint. One extra star because the waitress is attentive. Long story short we probably won’t come back.

New to the area thought I would give China River a shot. Got the lunch special beef and garlic. The hot and sour soup arrived(my Chinese food barometer). The soup was as thick as gravy with a huge dose of msg. Not good. My entrée arrived and it was not what i ordered. Just bad. No flavor and the rice was overcooked. Price is cheap. Food is cheap.

I love this place. Had the Curry shrimp, the shrimp were large and the meal was on the lunch menu. This is a very nice and cozy atmosphere. The waitress and owner were extremely appeasing. They are to far to get delivery from but will definitely go back with family in tow.

This place is fantastic! Delicious Chinese food at really great prices! I had the lunch special and I barely spent over $ 6. You get a lot of food too! Entrée, soup, egg roll and some crunchy noodle. Really good food at really good prices = really good time! I don’t live anywhere near Humble, but if I did I would frequent this place often! Check it out if you are in the mood for good food, great service and friendly service.

Decided on Chinese take out for dinner since it had been soo long since I have had Chinese food. Found this place online, through Google and saw reviews people had and decided to give it a try. We ordered, over the phone, Beef and Vegetables dinner combo which came with the usual soup choice, egg roll and rice. My daughter wanted the Singapore noodles, although we had no idea what these even were! Also got her some steamed rice. My dinner was good, but not enough flavor I felt. The beef was very tender though, which I love that! The fried rice was alright, same as others. The egg roll was great, but hey its fried and those always taste great. Now the soup, I always get hot & sour… it had a thick broth which really didn’t taste like most hot and sour soups so that didn’t get finished. The singapore noodles had chicken and shrimp in them. They were supposed to be Spicy & Hot… don’t think it was that hot. My 13yr old was eating them and she said they were okay. From what I saw of the inside. it was nice and I wouldn’t mind trying other items from their menu another time. The cashier was very nice when I picked up my food. They had it ready by the time I got there.
