Learn To Surf

I highly recommend anyone wanting to learn to surf or to refresh their skills to hire Jason. From start to finish, everything was top notch. I did a fair amount of research on surf lessons for my 13 year old son. What impressed me about Jason was his Navy Seals background, being CPR certified, and his ability to surf the big waves. I wanted to make sure that my son was 100% safe and with a local instructor who knew the water, currents, & rocks.
The website is very easy to navigate, I selected my date and time and entered in the credit card information. I got a confirmation email and about an hour later a phone call to confirm the location and discuss wetsuit sizes.
Jason was early and had brought two sizes for my son to try on. The wetsuit and boards were both in very good condition (much better than I had expected for a rental).
Jason made sure to make my son and I both feel comfortable, and within a few moments I was fine letting him take my son out.
Jason made sure that they stretched before going out (very important).
My son rode almost every wave that he tried — Jason’s ability to pick the right wave and tell him when to go was very impressive and made for a great time for my son.
After the lesson, Jason even had a portable shower for my son to rinse off with.
When we come back to California, we will definitely hire Jason again. I may even try it too!

I have been dreaming of surfing for years, I had the most amazing time learning. Jason was so detailed in making sure i knew what needed to be done, not only did I ride the very first wave I tried, but I got to spend 2 hours riding over and over, I went the next day and bought a board, If you have ever wanted to learn to surf, this is money very well spent!

My husband had a great time he will definitely do it again. Jason and his team teach all ages, I’ll be calling again as soon as I can convince my 5 year old that it’s a great water sport. The price is great the teaching method is fabulous. Highly recommend to anyone.

I live in newport beach and have always wanted to surf but have been kind of scared to try the sport. But decided to try Learn to Surf because of the credentials all the instructors had. They were all really professional and funny and got me to relax because I was pretty nervous surfing for the first time. I’d definitely go back… my instructor Joe is the guy you want to surf with.

Jason is da bomb! He’s so rad! Had such a great time surfing! They had everything you need and were super knowledgeable in everything we needed to know. One of the instructors, Joe, was my favorite! The best freaking guy in the world! Super friendly and fun and was an amazing container full of random knowledge!

Had an awesome time with Jason on my first time on a surfboard. He was very thorough in the beginning of the lesson before even touching the water. He made sure we understood safety, positioning, different methods, and of course to STRETCH before spending a morning out on the water. He kept me at ease, talking me through the waves, and providing feedback to improve my stance. Although I had a more difficult time, my friend was able to read, pop up, and ride the waves perfectly, showing me up, within 2 tries. Jason gives you that confidence to not be scared of the waves and just chill. and hang loose.
I would highly recommend lessons from Jason for anyone looking to take up surfing.

Had a fantastic time. He taught me how to surf. Jason is very informative about the techniques used when surfing. I felt very safe in the water when he was my instructor. He is all about safety. Awesome guy.

I am from Denmark and this was not my first time surfing but it was my first surf lesson. Jason at learn to surf taught me the fundamentals I was lacking just surfing on my own. It was really cool they used a go pro video camera to film me surf. I booked two additional lessons after I realized how professional this surf school was. I will definitely be back here for another lesson because Jason was such a great surf instructor.

We took a last minute family vacation to Newport Beach this last weekend and decided to sign my son and two of his friends up for surfing lessons. We are so glad that we chose to go with Learn to Surf HB because Jason was extremely good with the kids in that he not only taught them very well, but their safety was always first and foremost while out in the water. Jason and Shane, another instructor that was helping him with the boys, were so good with the kids that you can tell they don’t just do this for a living but they genuinely enjoy working with their clients and getting the best results for them. Their equipment is clean and in great condition and we enjoyed the lesson so much that we will be signing our son up for lessons regularly so that he can get the best instruction available. You will not regret choosing this company for your surf lesson needs!

Jason is a great surf instructor. He did a wonderful job connecting with his students and their family. My twin boys had a wonderful time and can’t wait to go surfing again.

My 2 private lessons with Jason on a recent trip to California were easily the best part of the trip! I am not a confident swimmer, and had doubts about being able to get up on the board, but he was patient and encouraging, and had me up on the board, catching waves in no time! He is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the ocean, safety, and surfing. He is clearly at home in the water, and makes his students feel the same way. I would definitely recommend him as an instructor.

My friend just recently moved to California from Ohio and brought up to me how she wanted to learn how to surf. I mentioned that even though I was a SoCal native, I’d never been surfing. Through mutual friends I was referred to Jason, where we both signed up to take our first lesson with him. I’m not particularly a strong swimmer but with Jason’s positive attitude, and experience he not only assisted in building my confidence but prepared me for success. Jason was great from the time I called in for a quote to even answering a couple questions after the lesson. He was knowledge, professional, fun and a great teacher! He did a private lesson for myself and 2 friends and even brought a 2^nd instructor so we would have more attention and all of his equipment was very nice. I was able to get up on my 2^nd try and I had never suffered before. I would definitely recommend him for a fun private lesson with friends or even a team building event. And ladies, he is not too bad to look at either :)

I have to say Jason is an amazing instructor. Couldn’t have had a better time learning to surf. Not only did he make me feel safe and educated, he is super patient with the learning process. I will definitely be continue surfing for the rest of my life thanks to Jason!

We had a great experience with Jason! He is a great instructor whose passion for surfing is very obvious. He is not too pushy and very encouraging, and is great at giving pointers. We had such a fun time and will definitely be booking a surf lesson with Jason when we’re back in the area!

First off, my son is not very athletic and isn’t much of a beach boy. But thanks to Jason, he now has a love for the ocean and surfing. Not only does Jason teach them surfing but he teaches them the whole body experience and safety. The only problem know is my son wants to surf everyday with Jason! So thank you for teaching my boy to LOVE surfing!!!

What can I say Jason is probably one of the best surf instructors in the OC area. My brother has been receiving surf lessons from the owner, Jason for about three months and I could not be more pleased. My brother was nervous to try something new at first but with Jason’s confidence, patience, and expertise he made everything seem possible if you put in the effort. Motivating him to do better my brother has been building skills not only in the water but outside too. I love the fact that he keeps every lesson upbeat, fun, and professional at the same time. I definitely recommend him to someone that wants to learn how to surf. You seriously won’t be disappointed.
