Ray! Ray! Ray! What an employee!
I’ve been to every REI you could hit up from Boston to HB as I drove cross country and no store came close to having the customer service, expertise and comfort that Ray brought to our interaction.
I was an overwhelmed mess trying to find the perfect hiking boot after major surgery. Excitement, fear, anxiety, determination was oozing out of me. He took control of each one and guided me patiently to the perfect match.
I will never go anywhere else & always on days where the schedule has Ray!

I’ve had all around pretty good service at this location. When I wanted to figure out my backpack size and try out various packs, the associates were super helpful and helped explain the differences. When I came to get a sleeping pad the associate helped me try out the various pads and was very attentive to my needs.
This location seems a bit smaller than the Tustin location but I like it a tad more, just because I’ve consistently been able to get help here without having to try to hard to find someone. The service has been excellent and the associates have been friendly.
They also have a garage sale here but it doesn’t seem as hectic as the Tustin location, there are fewer people. But the selection is also a bit smaller. This place also was first come first serve as far as I am aware (I came right as the garage sale happened).

I love rei, I have only gone to the Tustin location though. Today on the way to the beach I decided to stop by at the Huntington location at The Bella Terra to get fitted for a pack and get some hiking shoes. There was no associate to be found to get me fitted for the pack, I walked up to the register to ask someone to have someone assist me and they called someone and asked me to wait for an associate. 15 minutes went by and no one showed up, once again i asked an associate walking to the stock room to get me some help and he also called someone to the pack area, and again another 10 minutes went by and no help came. I asked a third person and finally that had someone show up to help me out and he fitted me but looked bothered by helping me and was unfriendly and not much help in suggesting any packs at all. Then after walking over to the shoe area, no one was around to help out. An associate walked by and said «you guys are good right?» As he walked past, we had to stop him to ask some questions and all he said was he would bring out a lot of different pairs to try on and we could figure out which ones we want, we just said never mind and walked out. This was the worst experience at rei I have ever had. Terrible service and unfriendly workers. I’ll never be coming back to this location.

What’s not to like about going to REI? The wife and I love going to REI and browsing the store. This one is pretty small though. We’re used to the Tustin store so sometimes it’s frustrating when they don’t have some items in stock. But it’s close and good to stop by once in awhile and see what’s new.
Good for all your outdoor needs and staff is always friendly and willing to help. Also, we’ve never had a problem returning items that didn’t work out or simply had problems with. We’re members so not sure if that helps or not.
The store is located in the Bella Terra shopping center so beware. Parking can be hard to find… especially on the weekends.

I wish I can give 0 stars. The service was extremely horrible. The staff made me feel dumb for not knowing about the equipment. They didn’t try to help me find what I needed and employee was rude. I ended up going to the Tustin location and they were SO MUCH better. I found exactly what I needed and gained knowledge on the product I needed. Go there instead!

Friendly staff, fast checkout. Good selection of camping gears and bikes.

Very pushy with the REI membership. Always willing to help until they find out you’re a member. Then it becomes let me know if you need help. Often times I just lie that I don’t have a membership just to get real advice. Also, the garage sale here is mediocre. Tustin and Rancho definitely has better deals.

Second time here recently — we needed a different waistbelt for the better half’s Osprey Ariel 75 that Tustin did not have. Called Huntington Beach and they had it in stock, set it aside for me and said come on down.
Parked in the structure around the corner and walked on over and found a slightly different yet familiar REI store =) The displays were organized differently and for some item types there was more and others a bit less — but this place was every bit as impressive and fun as Tustin is.
Camping got our Belt in and refitted her pack paying close attention to how it rode and giving more instruction on adjustments and how to pack and how to store. We got a few tips towards ultralight choices and options and saw some really neat stuff (a sub 1lb 40degree sleeping bag that packed up to about a tad bigger than a softball lol)
REI has consistently treated us well and continues to impress!

I came here with my boyfriend to look for some snow gear that he needed for a business trip. We were able to find a jacket and boots for him.
They are currently having a promotion off Northface right now for an additional 10% back.
It only cost $ 20 for a lifetime membership. It comes with a 10% off every purchase. You don’t get the money back until March/​April though. They will send you a check. It was definitely worth it for bf to get the membership since he ended up paying over $ 300 for his stuff.
Also the employees here are very helpful and knowledgeable.

REI makes me want to buy everything they have and do all the outdoorsy things they’ve got displayed in this store!
Great place to buy all your camping, fishing, running, hiking, biking, kayaking, etc etc, gear! The prices are definitely competitive depending on what you’re buying but the service is great– the staff seems pretty knowledgeable with the equipment they sell. They also allow you to look and feel things that are in glass cases.
I haven’t had to return equipment here but it seems like it wouldn’t be too much trouble depending on the issue… they also allow you to order things online if they don’t have it in the store (which most stores do nowadays), and you have the option to pick up at the store or let it get delivered to you with a shipping fee.

Love this store! They carry great quality products that are made to work and last. I was in the store to get a nice «real» winter jacket (as opposed to Southern California «winter» jacket) for my trip. They had a great selection to choose from, both in style and utility. Employees are always very nice and helpful — very knowledgeable about their products.

Love coming here just to walk around or if I need anything.
Customer service is always 100%. They’re always so knowledgeable when I’m purchasing a new and/​or pricey item, whether it was buying a sleeping bag, jacket, base layers, shoes, car rack, kayak, etc.
$ 20 to become a lifetime REI member. You get access to shop at their Garage Sale.

Had to return some online orders and the staff here was very helpful and friendly. This particular location was pretty small compared to other ones but their service is great as always!

4.4, not quite the 5 stars, as pricing is something to consider.
Selection is definitely great, and the brands are very reliable, but the price is not the best, in terms of discounts. Big 5 may not be the nicest place, but they tend to have way better sales.
Atmosphere is quite nice. Organization of the store is convenient
Of course, they have the newest selection, so definitely a plus.

REI has one of the best customer service.
I was in the area and wanted to browse. The REI staff greeted me and asked me if I needed any help finding any items or any questions with gear. I liked the cleaniness of the store and how easy it was to find items. Price wise a little too pricy for me but you get great customer service and they have a no fuss return policy for 1 yr.

Maybe it’s because I was here during holiday shopping, but I felt like there was 2 types of stocked items in this store: overstocked or out of stock.
Unfortunately the three items we were looking for were all out of stock. And there were no employees available to help us out. Oh well… there’s always Amazon.

I have never been in the HB REI and had a bad experience. Everyone in the store is so helpful. Everyone is so knowledgeable.
I just bought a Osprey backpack and the salesperson measured me, got me in the right size and bag. He also went as far as to draw out how to properly pack it for a long trip.
I love coming in here. My only problem is that I come out broke. (but that’s ok!)

Another one story store or is it that the Manhattan Beach store is the only two story store lol. This one was nice like the Tustin store big lots of stuff to look at. I noticed at this store WiFi was free i think so if you need to compare shop lol.
Staff was friendly but took a while for someone to come by asking if i needed help. Check out was good the gal was very nice. I’ll come back again if needed.
