I recommend this one for the burger and milkshakes. The fact it is on a pier gives you a great view while you eat. They do not get a perfect score, because, depending where you sit you view is destroyed by oil rigs and the fries were a great disappointments.

Frankly, I’m disappointed. I usually enjoy eating at Ruby’s Diner, but not today. Came here with my boyfriend for lunch during an afternoon walk, and the experience left me regretful. I regret coming to this restaurant and spending a small fortune. We sat at the counters in order to avoid being placed on the extensive waiting list only to find a dirty countertop and slow service. We were not acknowledged for 10 minutes straight, as waitresses and waiters scurried back and forth right in front of us. Finally our order for 2 shakes was taken. We didn’t receive our shakes for another 15 minutes. The waitress who took our order was cold and didn’t make us feel like valued customers. Finally our food order was taken and I ordered the fish and chips and my boyfriend ordered the hickory burger. Our food arrived and I was satisfied with the fish and chips(it’s the only reason why I didn’t give this review 1 star). However, my boyfriends burger was dripping with grease, filling his plate. It was disgusting. The bill arrived and we coughed up over $ 40. $ 6 for a mediocre shake? It definitely wasn’t worth it. If you’re planning to eat here, don’t order a shake. They’re overpriced and are nothing spectacular. I probably won’t be returning to this diner anytime soon.

Disappointed. We came here for my mom’s 1 year anniversary of her passing because this was her favorite restaurant at the beach. We had expectations of having good food and great service. What we experienced was a lot less than what we had hoped. We were very disappointed that the fried zucchini was no longer on the menu and replaced with Green Beans… really? We then asked for a salad instead of fries and what we got was an old-wilted salad that should have been tossed… out…long before it was served to us. From there we had asked for extra ranch and BBQ sauce, which never came. The only saving grace was the epic milk shake… those still meet expectations. Ruby’s manangement, please restore this place to it’s former glory!

The best views from Rubys Diner! Scott’s favorite place for his birthday lunch. Great food, good service and surrounded by the Pacific Ocean! And a free birthday sundae!

This place is awesome. The food is decent and the view is great. It’s the only restaurant at the tip of the pier so its quite a walk to get to, but if you are in the area, you definitely want to eat here at least once. Its basically a hamburger and shake place. If you’re looking for a chicken sandwich or something kind of light and healthy, this might not be the place for you(although they do have some salad options). If you don’t mind the calories(which I don’t), then you definitely want to check this place out. They got some really good milk shakes options as well.

When my boyfriend told me about this place I wasn’t sure what to think. A DINERON A PIER?! I’m from jersey so diners are kind of my thing. We went with his grandfather who has always loved Rubys. Everyone ordered burgers– the Cobb burger I believe. I ordered the tuna burger with Cajun fries and boyfriend and I shared the chocolate chip milkshake. The tuna burger was surprisingly amazing. It was seared so it was still as raw/rare as possible. Yum! It had a chipotle mayo and slaw on the bun. The Cajun fries were good but wish were was a curly fry option. This place was the authentic Johnny Rockets. Recommend if you want a blast from the past. Staff was very kind!

This was an okay burger on an incredible location in a beautiful part of California! Unfortunately, I was not able to take a bite out of the cool dolphin that swam by to say hello to all of us enjoying our okay burgers or drink a gallon of awesome water that surrounded the pier. It would have been so awesome if the burger complimented its surroundings(no, not dolphin patties) but as amazing as the views. The fries are incredible! The shake was basic. Ramp up the shake and burger and this diner will go far. Can’t wait to go back next year and see your progress.

Thought I would give this place another try after having a bad experience the last time I was here, Big mistake! Although the staff was friendly, the food is the worst. My drink was served in a dirty glass and had to be sent back, I ordered the eggs benedict that came with sliced casserole stile potatoes and toast. The egg was the only thing that was right this time. The toast came with no butter on it and none on the table, the potatoes were raw, the Hollandale sauce looked and tasted like it came from a can, and the thin slice of ham was dry as a rock. Sorry but I will never eat at Ruby’s again.

I mean you just cannot beat this location! So awesome! Great atmosphere. I’m a huge fan of 50s themed restaurants. Would definitely come back.

Im going to be honest with you people. I work here and I love it! Not only do i love working here but i love the food! please tell me where you can get an amazing burger, crispy golden fresh french fries, and sit over the beautiful ocean while watching your friendly dolphins go by. or even have fish and chips(which are the best in orange county) with a nice glass of chardonnay while watching a gorgeous sunset… and to top it all off its a wonderful family resturant. When i think of somewhere to take my son out to eat where we both will have a great time and both be happy with the food I think rubys… great service! great food! best view!

Walked in, asked for the open booth by the window. Saw the big ass cockroach on the wall below the window, right next to where I would be sitting. Pointed it out to hostess, who said«do you want the other booth?» Turned around and walked out. Roaches in the kitchen is bad but roaches in the dining area is totally unacceptable.

The food is basic but good burgers and fries and club sandwiches, for a 50’s diner the menu is fine but it lacks in music and is limited in décor. The staff is more concerned with its own social environment but the service is slow and there is always a wait. They made up for mistakes with a salted Caramel shake which was relish… Great family place or if you don’t want to spend much.

I went here once in the past and had a great meal. We were bumming around Huntington Beach and for some reason decided to eat here again yesterday instead of some of the places on Main Street. Most people might think this is super touristy but I would have to say hands down probably the best, freshest bacon cheeseburger I have ever had. It was amazing. I was expecting half-decent food begin that it’s a restaurant at the end of the pier but i was very surprised. The onion rings were also perfect. My GF had a tuna sandwich and the chili and she also said it was very fresh tasting. We loved it. Definitely a go-to for ford and the best view on the beach.

Cute restaurant at the end of the pier. Obviously a great view of huntington beach! Chain restaurant so food is always consistently good as expected. They are famous for their shakes so make sure you try one! Restaurant could be cleaner. They’ll let dirty tables sit for 20+ minutes before cleaning so it can be unappealing for some. Other than that, good food for good price! :)

The fact that it sits so peacefully at the end of the pier makes it seem like you HAVE to go. It does have a beautiful view of the ocean! But I’m not too fond of American food and it doesn’t really stand out here either. Everything at Ruby’s is pretty much very very greasy and unhealthy. There are only two things I would get if I were to come here with a friend. The first would be onion rings, since they are big and crispy and I can use a lot of napkins to soak off some oil. The second would be their oreo milkshake because that thing is literally heaven.

Depressing. Dismal. Don’t let the panoramic windows fool you. It’s night of the living dead in here. Employees are always on the verge of suicide… or you will be half way through your meal. I don’t know why it’s always been(and I mean ALWAYS) so horrible here in terms of environment. The view is amazing but I can’t bring myself to eat here. I always just get stuff from the window outside. Came in to with out of town guests and ordered an Oreo shake. $ 6 for a medium cup of bipolar disorder. Felt like I was at Disneyland. My advice to you would be: 1. If you for some reason have to eat here, use the window and don’t bother going inside. or 2. Save your stomach space and eat some proper food just a few steps off the pier and onto Main St. This place isn’t a good place to eat. It’s just novelty. And if you want nostalgia, go to the Shake Shack.

Typically the only time I come here is when I have a cheat day that allows me to squeeze in a milkshake, or when I have my best friend come out to visit me. THEN Ruby’s is an absolute must. Parking: good luck. Expect a walk, especially since you have to walk all the way down the pier after you try to find parking at the meters it in a near by neighborhood. The wait: depends on the time of year. If it’s the middle of winter, you’re more likely to get seated when you walk in, but during the summers, ESPECIALLY during the U.S. Open? Expect to wait. A looooong time. The food: I’ve never had a bad burger! My favorite is the classic ruby burger and the guacamole burger(my #1 fav and highly recommend). What’s new is that they have bottomless fries if you’re able to go for a second basket after eating everything! They also have a few newer burgers that the added to the menu, one of which my waitress recommended. Though I’m sure they’re good, I can’t deviate from the guac burg. It’s just too good to betray! The service: it’s always been a hit or miss for me. But I do want to point out that I’ve never had bad service. The customer service has always been incredible every time. The mark that they miss is that if you ask for something(like a side of ranch, extra ketchup, etc) you don’t get it and have to ask twice when they make your round back to you. But I’ve never gotten the feeling that it was out of carelessness, possibly just the stress of so many people in the restaurant. Overall, this is a great place, has a great atmosphere, the service is great, and the food is awesome. Ps, the shakes are bomb.

Having lived in HB for several years, this is a «Must» to bring my relatives or out-of towners. Located at the end of the Huntington Beach Pier, overlooking the Pacific Ocean, and on a clear day you can see Catalina Island. Burgers are alright, but I have had better. Tourist seem to like eating at this diner, many a times while walking in the waiting area I hear a foreign accent. I usually use Ruby’s as my landmark when walking, but today I had friends who just had to stop and have and have an ice cream. I’m lactose intolerant so I had to take their word that the ice cream was delicious and creamy.

We always come to this particular Ruby’s for our son’s birthday. He loves the gumball machines that they have there. The staff are always nice when we go, which is July 3rd– the day before the big H.B. 4th of July Parade and when it is packed down there. Once we sit down at a booth, we are never disappointed with the views. Ocean everywhere and once in a while, you’ll see a small pod of dolphins swimming slowly by. The last time we ate there my wife ordered the All ‘Murican Burger with a garden patty since she is a vegetarian along with fries as a side. I ordered the Smoked Mozzarella burger and it was awesome! I ordered onion rings on the side so my wife and I could share sides. We always do. Come to find out the fries are pretty much endless– the onion rings are not. One star-GONE!!! I always order the peanut butter cup malt. It’s so good! Cue Justin Timberlake playing Jimmy Fallon–«So good. So good. Peanut butter. So so good!!!» There are two stairways in the restaurant. The one closest to the front door is for patrons and that leads to the restrooms. The other stairway is for staff. There is also an elevator for handicap access. I love it here and will keep coming here.
