Darren and Justin make a great team, we have been going a couple years now. Darren has an amazing ability to spot exactly what to fix and also how to get a young player to remember in a fun and constructive way. Same goes for Justin on pitching. These are not group lesson guys, they are serious and individual one on one instructors at an affordable price. Your best bet is stringing together twice a week lessons for the instruction to really take with your player. I can also say they have a pretty impressive list of clients that have accomplished college and professional careers, especially for being a two man operation(wont name anyone but you would be impressed). They have a seating area that lets parents watch the lesson and as a coach(me) be able to stay on top of the work. Only downside is that private lessons do cost more than group lessons just like in any sport… would recommend to anyone…

Batting a baseball is one of the most difficult skills in the world. People make millions off of being able to successfully hit a baseball three out of ten times. Coach Darren Nelson is one of the best hitting instructors in Orange County. Trust me, my son has been to several and Darren can make anyone a better hitter. He uses innovative techniques and has been doing this all of his life. His facility is great and he has fun challenges for kids to strive to accomplish like his«Gatorade bottle.» If you hit the Gatorade bottle in the back of the cage while he is pitching the last ball in the session you will win a year long supply of Gatorade. You think it’s impossible, except the walls in his training facility are filled with the names and dates of kids who have done it before. I also like that he sends out an email on Sundays with available times and you email him back your preference. He can work with individuals or groups and there is a coach on staff who also does pitching. Did I mention you can buy equipment for dirt cheap. He is an official Mizzuno supplier. We bought my son’s batting helmet and cleats from Coach Darren for cheaper than anywhere locally. Don’t make him too popular though otherwise my kid won’t be able to get an available lesson. He also does a great summer camp that we liked better than the Lifeletics camp. The Lifeletics camp was very good– but when I gave my kid a choice he liked the Slugger’s camp the most.
