Cornstarch-flavored Gumbo. There’s a phrase that I don’t fling around often. But amazingly, the Chef de cuisine at Sunny’s diner spent some real blood, sweat and tears in the lab and came up with a whole new and innovative way to screw up a dish close to my heart. Who knows how many days and bags of non-food-grade cornstarch they sacrificed to find just the right balance of gritty and glue-like. I certainly don’t, but I do know that this was single-handedly the worst soup I’ve ever tasted. Probably 500+ restaurant soups I’ve had in my life, and this one, this one is truly special. An amazing tour de force of third rate culinary training. I think I can sum up my thoughts on Sunny’s like this. The soup was so bad that after one spoonful I had to swallow another 2 more because I honestly could not believe another person was able to put this on a table in front of me with a straight face. I felt like I ate half of some poor kids paper-mâché assignment. Completely insane. I had to do something that I’ve done maybe twice in my life, throw money on the table(with tip, not the server’s fault) and walk out without comment.

I’m sad that they closed this location. I would walk over and get breakfast while my car was getting an oil change across at Econo. This place was great. Now they’ve moved closer to my house but I always forget it is there. Still amazing service regardless. Now I just sit around and wait for my car to get done. How boring!

We were driving home from a long journey and happened upon this treasure by chance. My husband loves old diners and this one fits the bill. It’s old but clean and the service was great. Good menu, plenty to choose from. And it was so inexpensive! Under $ 40 for our family of 4. My husband got ham and the slice was so huge it needed it’s own plate. My son’s «child’s burger» was so big, the meat was equivalent to 2 McDonald’s Quarter pounders. I got a dinner salad, steak, mashed potatoes and cream corn for $ 8.99 and it was really yummy! All of our food was delicious, and the kids got to pick free toys from the«prize» toy case in the front entry. They were so excited! I wish we lived closer to this place — we’d be there every week. I’ll bet they do a killer breakfast. Give them a try!

I love a good diner. And this place is one of the best I’ve been to. In one week we went twice… once for lunch and once for breakfast. Both meals were cooked perfectly and tasted delicious! My favorite was the cinnamon bun french toast(see photo). The staff was friendly enough and the prices were great and definitely reasonable.

This place rocks! Good, wholesome comfort food served in huge portions by excellent wait-staff. I’m never disappointed when I eat here. If you’re a fan of old-fashioned corn in cream — order some here. Happy Eats!

Breakfast breakfast and breakfast. Because I spent like a month eating breakfast and brunch there almost everyday. The pancakes are decent and the people there are nice. Had a burger here too and it’s is filling and good. I disagree with the inside décor, but the memorabilia are cool-just do something about the old seats and tables.

We loved this place! But the Beach Blvd location is CLOSED. She has another location by Goldenwest College, Toys R Us and Expo. It has the same charm as the Beach Blvd location did. We miss you!

I had no problem going to Sunny’s repeatedly for some traditional American breakfast grub. you know, bacon, eggs, toast… and there seemed to always be a spot at the bar for me; me and all of the lonely men… typical scene for me on a Saturday morning with no single friends or a honey to grab some food with… BUT– I drove by the other day and noticed that Sunny’s is now an Auto Club. Kinda sucky, but kinda cool.

great local gem. cheap prices and the new dinner menu is great. you can get dinner here for 8.99 which beats even sizzler and other restaraunt chains. the business is a little slow for dinner so if you go after 5 for dinner you will have very little company in the restaraunt for dinner. the staff will cater to everything for you. for those who have tried it and had a bad experience they recently cleaned it up and dropped the baked goods and stuff in the front in favor of monster energy drinks cheap and bottled water. still dollar for dollar about the best value in hb.

This place straight up sucks the big one. I was hung over 4th of july morning and wanted to get some breakfast. Everywhere was packed so as we drove by Sunny’s my girlfriend and I were like«lets just try it and get some food and be on our way» Big mistake, everything sucked, and the place wasn’t that crowded on a Saturday of all days, and fourth of july morning — something is wrong with that picture. I ordered a breakfast burrito that the waiter said was a very popular item, it sucked, it was loaded with all sorts of stuff, bacon, cheese, eggs, potato etc. but it had about as much flavor as a glass of tap water, it literally tasted like all the flavor had been sucked out of it. My girl got some egg white thing with mushrooms and spinach and chicken that pretty much tasted like my burrito — which tasted like a glass of tap water. I tried to spice them up with salsa and hot sauce but they still were really bad. Neither of us ate much of our food it was so bad. The waiter also told my girl that the entrée she ordered was another«really popular» item. I hate this place and their evil ways of telling me whatever I order is popular. Son of a motherless goat.

Surgeon’s general warning: OK Ive been here for the good and the bad and the ugly. Today Sunny’s was outstanding from getting a seat, taking our order, service from start to finish as good a you can get from a breakfast joint. I had the Greek omelet very good my wife had the waffle she liked it very much, Portions very big price decent $ 24.00 for 2 people on a busy Sunday morning, this place must be under new management they cleaned the place up stepped from a very poor service and showed me and my wife they want our business. this shows sometimes you have to give a place a second chance. They are advertising that they are going to start dinner soon and we will give it a try.

I was finally dragged in here by my brother and his girlfriend. They’ve been talking about this place since they tried it a couple months ago. I was sick of hearing about it and finally caved. In the end it was average. Maybe I didnt make the right menu choice, hell if I know. I ordered the peanut butter pancakes. After a wake and bake, it seemed like such a natural decision. Peanut Butter + Pancakes = eternal happiness. I had visions of me and peanut butter pancake holding hands and spinning around in a field of flowers. I got the whole meal, which came with 2 eggs and sausage, I was dissappointed it didnt come with hash browns or toast to eat with the runny(the way I like them) eggs. The pancakes were a bit hard, overcooked maybe. They had peanut butter chips in them, also came with a side of pb to spread on the pancakes. Rich as hell, which was good. The waitress was attentive and kept the coffee coming, no complaints there. I’m still going to give it another shot to make my final judgement. It had potential. Wasnt terrible, wasnt fantastic. Just average. It was about $ 11 – 12 each person with tip. I was told I should have ordered the Eggs Benedict, but I just wasnt feeling that. It was packed, so something has to be really good there, right?

Can we say blue hair diner extrodanaire! This place is your typical mom and pop shop diner. Breakfast joint all the way when your hung over, hurting, and need some grub that’s greasey. Blood mary? Mimossa? They have umm… some nice bubbley. I’d def check it out if your hung and want a low maintenance place to eat with the old folks!!!
