Tebot Bach

I volunteered under poet/​teacher Mifanwy for almost a year after graduating college because I wanted some experience in the literary arts field. Mifanwy is an accomplished and passionate individual. She was a teacher for many years, and is currently a poetry teacher at Golden West College in Huntington Beach. Tebot Bach hosts a monthly poetry reading at Golden West College, and I’ve met many neat poets and writers through it. There are some regulars who recite their poems for the open reading time (which is towards the end), and I remember several fabulous poems by another fellow volunteer and guest poets. During the poetry readings, you would’ve found me in the back of the room, in charge of selling TBach and guest poet’s books. After going back to grad school I have stopped volunteering, but will always think fondly of the times I’ve spent there. Spread the Word!

Mifany Kaiser, MFA looks like a laid back lady publisher, or so I thought when we shook hands and chatted last night at the Ruskin Art Club. Turns out, she, along with Mark Bergendahl, «elected to formally incorporate Orange County’s first nonprofit public benefit corporation dedicated to the support and promotion of strong community, literacy and personal growth. …[They chose the name] Tebot Bach, Welsh for ‘little teapot’ because the teapot is central to the spirit of community life in Wales — a community spirit that infuses its work. Tebot Bach’s accomplishments include: «‘Voices to Come Home To: Poems from the Hearts of the Homeless’, a $ 10K grant from the Verbena Foundation to provide writing workshops for homeless Veterans and to publish a collection of their poetry, Poetry on the Move, a program for students grades 6 – 12 which places their full-​length poems or excerpts from their poems on buses,» and much, much more.
