Another Huntington favorite. Great veal. Try the Almarco salad.

Damn ! When this place was a pizza parlor they had THEBEST Sicilian(square) pizza on the planet(and in Huntington). The crust had an incredible amount of flavor and a wonderful consistency – it was not too dense — not too bread-y. Somehow, magically, overnight – the parlor part was GONE and this was revamped into a «no slices» restaurant !(I work right here in town — how on earth did they do this without me seeing?) Now you’re supposed to order and pick up at the bar. Very awkward WHENTHEBARISBUSY. Very awkward when the bar tender is busy. From the front this place just looks like a bar and somewhat unapproachable . There needs to be a pick up station or something inside. I’m sure the food is fine but DAMN I miss picking up a few slices on-the-go. Oh well, Portofino a few blocks up is my new Pizza Home and their Sicilian is pretty awesome too.

Enjoyed a lovely dinner here with the bf for one of our anniversaries. The ambience was very nice at night and I remember the service being good. He got the veal and I got the rigatoni soprano. I remember the only thing I didn’t like was the sausage pieces were a little too big but that’s not a big deal. We both got so much food, that we ended up with a nice lunch the next day! When it was time for dessert, the waitress brought out a tray with all of them for us to see in person. That was nice because some looked better than others. It was a nice spot for dinner and I would like to go back and try their lunch specials!

Amazing!!! Every restaurant was closed for Christmas Eve but we walked in and they gladly served us an unbelievable meal. All the servers were super nice and knowledgeable. I’m so glad we found this place and I will definitely be back!

This is one of my favorite neighborhood restaurants. The owner is super friendly and service is always good. Love the skirt steak, salmon(when it’s a special), and pasta. The garlic bread is delicious. Can always count on Al Marco to be consistent.

I have to update my rating to 5 stars. Everything about this place makes this our go-to date night spot in the village. We love the intimate environment, roomy tables, cleanliness, service, staff, and food. The service here is ESPECIALLY attentive. I also like that the restaurant is set away from the New York Ave. restaurants which tend to be busier and«trendier.» We’ve had the crab cakes, skirt steak, roasted pepper salad, and penne ala vodka and all were very good. The red pepper dressing they serve with the salad and crab cakes is so good and we basically have it with everything. Portions are large and price point is impressive for what you get. The bread basket with herbed olive oil is always a nice start to the meal. Looking forward to our next visit, maybe in their roofed outdoor patio in the back when it’s not so hot out.

Have come to Almarco many times for lunch or dinner and always liked the restaurant, especially the excellent service. However, one has to be careful what one orders. For dinner some time ago, my guy and I ordered filet mignon, a pricey dish. Each of our steaks was served right in the middle of a huge amount of mashed potatoes. Could barely see the steak. When I order a filet mignon, I want to SEE that beautiful piece of meat stand alone so that I can anticipate its juicy perfection. I do not want to have to scrape mashed potatoes off of it in order to cut off a piece to eat. Underneath the mashed potatoes were huge chunks of way-too-ripe zucchini. Hard to even identify it as zucchini. And the zucchini was way too mushy, way too over-cooked. I’ll give this restaurant one more try, but another disaster like the one we experienced, and we will take our business elsewhere.

Had dinner on Saturday night with another couple. Had a 7:15 reservation. Were led to table at 7:50 pm. Why bother taking reservations? Owner was very casual & not too apologetic about the 35 minute wait when I inquired of him. Same goes for the hostess. Pushed the«have a drink at the bar» routine, which we were already doing. The tables are jammed so close together that the ladies on our side of the table behind us literally had to get up so that we could sit down, vice versa when they were ready to depart. So off putting. Food is mediocre at best. Calamari was good. Gorgonzola bread is nothing special. Warm gorgonzola cheese to spoon onto grilled italian bread rounds. In terms of entrees, the best in our party were the lobster ravioli. Veal francese was passable, but lacking in flavor. The lasagna was overly salted and contained to many noodle layers and not enough sauce/meat. Much better to be had locally. Chicken parm was decent. Again, nothing better than you would get at Junior’s pizza, also owned by this proprietor. Red velvet cake was oddly salty. Bottom line: Decent/passble food, cramped, loud room, not worth the price point. Much better choice in town. Wouldn’t return, expect perhaps for the lunch special when you can sit outdoors in summer.

My first time there, nice atmosphere but from the moment we walked in I knew it was going to be bad. The heat was intense and the smell of the bartender/waitress was unbearable, her perfume was so offensive and strong that I sat there and talked and ate with my nose and mouth covered the whole time. If I could, I’d get a law passed that people aren’t allowed to wear perfume or cologne in a restaurant, to me it’s just as bad as smoke! That being said, my hubby’s cheeseburger he said had no flavor, just a boring hunk of chop meat and the«hand cut fries» we’re dry and also had no flavor. My veggie focaccia was really good, I would definitely go back if I knew that waitress wasn’t there

Great lunch deal! The 12 $ lunch special is both delicious and surprisingly affordable for the quality of food, portions and ambiance. My family went with a large group for my mother’s birthday and we all had a wonderful time. I found the service to be a bit hurried to order but I believe it was to ensure we all had our food in a timely manner, being a large group. The staff allowed us to bring in our own cake without cutting fees which was appreciated, they also let us linger on, being the last people at the lunch shift without pressure to leave. Overall we felt welcome there, the food is good, the price is right and the ambiance is enjoyable. I will certainly be back and would recommend this lunch deal to a friend.

The Italian salad with Feta and breaded chicken is excellent here. The chicken Parmesan is also very good… the key to Italian fare is the sauce, and it is outstanding. Bar area was recently remodeled and the room is very inviting. Marc, the owner, is an awesome host and a gentleman. The adjoining space used to be a pizza place, but is now incorporated into the restaurant. You may order the same pizza in the restaurant, bar area, or to take out, and in my opinion, it is the best slice in Huntington. The staff are a joy to talk to… I really like this place…

The staff is excellent. The food is average and a little bit pricey for what you get. We paid $ 68 for 2 people and we only odered a humburger, italian sausage, fried calamari, two beers and a diet coke. The decoration is nice.

I came here on a Saturday night with friends. Very friendly staff. The dining area is almost like a hallway, but you never feel crammed — it’s well layed out with the space they have. I had the Red Wine Sangria — unbelievably delicious and not watered down in the slightest, fantastic. I ordered the Almarco Pollo which was perfect. Great portions and delicious flavor. If I had any room leftover I absolutely would have tackled a dessert plate — as they all looked amazing — but I suppose that will have to wait for another visit here, which I know will be soon.

Almarco accommodated our party of 6 at the last minute on Saturday night. Which if you are familiar with Huntington Village, a remarkable feat. The food was outstanding, we tried the special salad of goat cheese, beets, arugula and oranges, the eggplant rollatini, crab cakes, and sea bass. Everything was delicious, plus they have a great wine selection. The only reason why Almarco loses a star, is that their service could’ve been a little better, the entrees took a very long time to come out, and our server was a little inattentive. I would return for the great food and cozy atmosphere.

I grew up on Junior’s pizza, back when it used to be in Northport, so I was really excited to visit the owner Mark’s current sit-down establishment, Almarco.(Mark and his family have been local restaurant owners since at least the late ‘80s.) My parents and I were greeted with a big hug and promptly seated despite our lack of a reservation. It’s really special when you return to something you remember being great from your childhood, and it holds up in adulthood. The vibe was convivial, but not too noisy, and the same warm, friendly service that has characterized all of the family’s previous restaurants is very much present here. Our waiter, Matt, was very young and very conscientious(and reminded me a little of when Marc’s nephew Gene, who is my age and used to wait tables at Junior’s when I was still in middle school). Another thing that I really appreciated was that they had a nice Malbec on special for $ 30 – why don’t more restaurants do drink specials? As for the food, the meal started off with a really nice bread basket. I actually don’t know what kind of bread it was, but it was it was delicious all on its own – and it came with a delicious mix of olive oil and herbs for dipping. Be careful, because its easy to fill up on bread alone. I had two or three pieces, and then we got a steamed mussels appetizer. The mussels were tender and delicious, and were swimming in a wonderful white wine and basil broth that necessitated eating even MORE bread for sopping purposes. I got the Soprano pizza for my entrée, and it was by far the largest personal pizza I’ve ever seen. In addition to being huge, it had a very generous assortment of tasty toppings: tomato sauce, mozzarella, sausage, broccoli rabe and toasted breadcrumbs. My dad got the special, which was a tortellini dish with a silky sage cream sauce. Both were quite good. My mom got the eggplant rollatini, which had a great balance of textures and flavors. The sauce was on the bottom, so the eggplant was perfectly crispy, and it was stuffed with nice creamy ricotta and a little spinach. Basically, it was a very clean take on the classic dish, which seems to be what Almarco does best. Nothing on the menu is really unfamiliar or unexpected, but if you’re looking for a restaurant that will perfectly execute the old Italian favorites and welcome you like family, this is it. Enjoying my dinner, I thought to myself, Huntington has been so lucky to be home to a restauranteur like Mark in town all these years. I highly recommend you stop in for a meal.

4 stars for the food 3 stars for the noise level. This is a great place if you don’t want to hear what you date/wife/friends are saying but want great food at a reasonable price. Unfortunately we were here with friends who we hadn’t seen for a while and wanted to catch up with. There is a section of the restaurant that is like a narrow hallway. Tables are close together and the sound has nowhere to go except through your ears and assault your brain. There are 2 other parts to the restaurant where the noise level is not as bad. Ask to be sat there because the food here is very good. Calamari was light and tender. Lobster ravioli was filled with chunks of lobster and the sauce will make you ask for more bread to soak it up until your plate makes squeaky noises. So come here have good food and bring someone who you don’t want to hear and just nod your head to everything they say.
