Gimme 5 Cafe

I’ve been going to HIMG since they over from 20^th street. When the coffee shop went in as espresso mojo they knew what a proper shot of espresso was and how to prepare it. Then it became Gimme 5. The folks who bought it from espresso mojo were properly trained and knew what they were doing though attention to detail fell off. Yesterday I had an opportunity to go in. I found it had been under new management for about 6 months. It was obvious they had no idea what they were doing! They over tamped the ports filter then proceeded to fracture the puck. Finally they hit the switch and walked away. The shot poured in 6 seconds! I pointed this out when they finally returned and they told me it was set up that way in the machine. I explained that they could adjust the grind to control shot time and I got a blank stare and was told that’s how they machine was set up. I stepped behind the counter and showed them how to adjust the grind and explained how that effected the shot.
Apparently I did it in a kind educational fashion because a customer asked me to e plain more to her.
Their food may be great, I have no idea but I’d never buy an espresso based drink for personal consumption from them.

Great little café inside HIMG. If you are there for an appointment or driving by it is a great place for breakfast or lunch. There is a large coffee/​espresso drink menu. This is a good place for vegetarions too with options like a black bean burger or a greek salad.

From drinks known as Marco’s Mocha, to lunches such as The Gobbler, and desserts as gratifying as the Huntington well-​known Paula Vega Cakes. From my experience, it’s a laid back first name place that I can relax at.
