My favorite local diner– great vibe, well-established, world’s BEST cinnamon rolls(hands down). The only downside is that service is often spotty and it can be a serious struggle to get refills on coffee.

Quickie Review: Should you stay or should you go? GO. When I first saw their building I thought it was like something out of the Flintstones, but remember kids not to judge a book by its cover. The cinnamon rolls alone earn the 5 star rating. It was always a tradition for me, along with countless other HU students through the years, to get up early of a morning during finals week and take a trip to Johnny’s. The prices for everything are great and definitely beats a trip to any fast food place. I’m not a morning person, but, again, those cinnamon rolls could make Grumpy the dwarf smile. I highly recommend making a visit to any prospective or current HU students!

This is Huntington. I no longer live in Huntington but Johnny’s is my first stop on returns. Days long ago it was a Drive-in just like you would see in the 1950’s based tv shows and movies. This was, is, the real deal, although they haven’t offered curb service for many years. They have the same menu as always which is fine with most everyone that dines there. It’s small and everyone will know your name. It’s the Cheers of diners. You can’t get any more homestyle that this place. You can plan your week by the daily specials. If you get there on grilled tenderloin day bun that baby up. YUM. I was shocked to see some college kids homing in on this place during my last visit but it’s a good idea on their part. Prices are right and serving sizes are from 40 years ago, so you won’t have to start adding holes to your belt. I don’t think they have any fancy coffee, but you can order a cup and they will keep it warm for you by topping it off. You get what you pay for here and its fair. If you order biscuits and gravy, meatloaf, etc… they are preparing it from their recipes not opening a frozen pouch. When ordering dinner you may even get green beans, corn, or peas. The food is very basic and its the same it’s been for about 60 years. Thank you Davis family and Monte especially for keeping this gem going. Go for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, and don’t forget a piece of pie!
