This is definitely the best buffet I have eaten at. If you are in a mood to eat yourself into a food coma, and you want your taste buds to be tittilated, this is the place you need to come to. The servers were super nice and fast. I will definitely come back, after I recover from my first trip.

This place has really hit rock bottom lately. This used to be one of our Favorite Chinese buffets, due to the simple but quality sushi. Now the egg rolls are grease logs and cold. All the meat was overcooked and had been sitting there for hours. The sauces were Bland and tasteless trying to cover up old and gross meat. The coconut chicken should be called mayonnaise chicken. The pineapple chicken with no more than ketchup for sauce. The shrimp on the Hibachi Grill had goo ozing off of it, stringing at least 6 inches to my plate. When I pointed it out to the buffet attendant she Shrugged her shoulders took it to the back and brought the same shrimp back out to the buffet. The deep fried chicken and shrimp or hard as a rock. The ice cream scooper was setting in dirty water high enough that the germs from the handle that everyone had been touching all day was washing down onto the scooper. I really feel like I should call the health department before someone dies. This place must be Under New Management how sad they were doing so well for a while. Granted this was a Wednesday evening but a buffet served on Wednesday should be the same as a buffet served on Sunday

Visiting from out of town. Saw billboards everywhere for this place and decided to stop. Nice selection of Chinese, American, and seafood. Sushi served all day along with Hibachi. Staff was friendly and attentive. Very clean. I found the food delicious, but my companion thought it was salty, albeit still good. You can’t beat the price! $ 5.50 for lunch, $ 7.99 for dinner. Would eat here again.

There are many reasons why we eat at restaurants. You can’t cook. You don’t want to cook. You want to try something different. A special occasion… If what you’re looking for is mass quantities of edible food at a low price, have the lunch buffet at Chow King Grill & Buffet. $ 4.99 for all you can eat. Really. Doesn’t a Big Mac cost nearly that these days? I can’t buy the ingredients for $ 5.00 to make what I ate today there. It’s a steal of a deal. They have a salad bar, a fruit bar, a sushi bar, a hibachi grill, a dessert bar and ice cream. The hot foods are many standard Chinese items you find on a buffet, along with an extraordinarily large number of fish and other seafood dishes. They also have pizza, French fries, fried chicken, etc, for the kiddos and the non-Chinese eaters. Mac n cheese, too. I found the Chinese dishes all tasted the same, and nothing was good enough for me to want to take another bite. Tasted like every dish has a hint of 5 Spice in it. I did notice some diners eating nothing but the salad bar. I’m a mega Chinese food lover, but if I return, I’m going to skip the Chinese food and stick with the fruit, salads, and desserts. A fast food salad is more than $ 5.00, so you can’t beat this place for the price.

Finally made it over here after all the advertising hoopla they have done on local television. Take 88 Buffet and make it about one-third the size and you have Chow King Grill. Way smaller buffet area, much less seating, much smaller sushi bar, and smaller selection of buffet items. But then again, the lunch buffet price here is $ 2 less than 88 Buffet. The food was good and it is definitely a good choice if you live or work on this side of town. Chow King does serve crab legs during dinner hours which is not available at 88 Buffet. The only suggestion I would have would be more sushi items to choose from.

Nastiest Chinese food I have ever eaten in my entire life. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone. I left feeling sick after 15 min. Will not be returning.

Being a gluten for punishment I revisited this establishment for lunch. Although I can say the food did taste bit better, the service from when you walk into the place continues to be horrific. As an example a line started forming at the door and it was not until the line was almost out the door did the cashier decided to start moving people to open seats. All the time he stood there with a, what should I do now Fred look on his face. Finally when we got to the table I asked for my drinks and a pair of chop sticks, and believe it or not the waiter did not understand what chop sticks where, no really… be patient. As far as the buffet line goes, it’s getting better and the items I ate the first time really tasted better the second time… or perhaps I was really hungry? Heating issues continue to plague these guys as a lot of the items were warm at best. Is it that hard to keep buffet food items hot? Other places seem to do it. The one saving grace of this place is the Hibachi Grill guy. He’s the scary looking mass murder type who runs that station. Fret not though, he knows what he is doing! The selection for the Hibachi grill are plentiful and varied and when cooked he really turns it into a masterpiece of flavors. If they lose him they are toast. Another standout was the dessert bar. The hot apple pie with vanilla ice cream was delightful as was the chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream… heck the warm buffet with vanilla ice cream might be something to try out on the third visit? Hopefully they’ll get it right… soon… As of this writing though, my rating remains unchanged.

Salad bar is good, minus the fact that iceberg is the only lettuce offered… and they have a big variety of food, but, the food isn’t that good at all. The service was excellent !!! However, we won’t be back.

Finally made it to the Chow King for lunch today. We’ve been seeing 5 Zillion signs for the place scattered all about Northern Alabama and Southern TN for months now, but today was the day we got to sample the food(and all those signs had a pic of a huge steak on them, should’ve known this place was not going to live up to the hype). Well, as quantity goes, the selection at Chow King is fairly extensive compared to other Chinese buffets. But the quality is lacking, everything we tasted was just average(a lot of the food items I sampled had a strange sweet taste to them, not sure why that was). I can’t say anything was really bad(except for the steamed dumplings, they were tasteless & bland), but nothing overwhelmed us with great taste either. Also, some of the food was luke warm rather then hot. My fiancée did like the size of the salad bar — it was large compared to other Chinese buffets. As for the deserts, she had a bit of the strawberry cake and enjoyed it. I went for some cheesecake — disappointing, had ice crystals in it. The brownie bit I sample wasn’t very good either. Went back for a scoop of ice cream and noticed about 2 dozen scoops way down in a crevice in the ice cream freezer. Ok, I understand that a few scoops would fall down there, but since we arrived when Chow King opened at 11am, I have a hard time believing all those scoops fell into that crevice this morning. Also, the service was horrible. Can’t count the number of times a waiter walked by our table and did not bother to pick up our plates or re-fill our drinks. But I guess they were too busy texting and watching the TV on the wall. One walked by our table and let food fall off the plate he was carrying, so we had to step over a chicken wing bone and a chicken stick for the rest of our meal. I have to wonder how long this place will stay clean since it just opened recently ? Honestly, can’t say I’ll be back. Chow King is slightly better then your average Chinese buffet in the Deep South, but that’s not saying much since most Chinese buffets in the area are hideous.

Big new buffet. Locate the Wal-Mart Supercenter that’s on the north side of Sparkman Drive, just west of Memorial Parkway. Chow King is immediately west of that Wal-Mart. We went today during their grand opening. The restaurant is clean, and appeared to even have new carpet! Food and service were very good. When you try them out, post some pictures of the food, and of more of their interesting decorations! P. S. My iPhone could see three WiFi servers with strong signals. However, they were all password protected, and it was not obvious whether any of them belonged to China King. Sprint 3G coverage in here was practically nonexistent.
