Ding How restaurant has been in the Whitesburg Shopping Center for many years. It is a family owned restaurant and is very popular with Huntsville residents. The Dim Sum menu is available on weekends. I am not particularly knowledge about about Chinese food but we discovered their Dim Sum menu available on weekends. From the line that extends out the door, many others have also discovered the joy of Chinese Dim Sum. The rumor is that the chef flies in from Atlanta each weekend to prepare the menu for diners. With Dim Sum, a cart comes to each table with different food. I cannot read what they write on the check that is left on the table and filled in by each waiter who drops off food that we have selected. I have learned more about Chinese food from eating here on weekends than I would have ever expected to learn. The steamed food treats(Har Gor, Shu Mai, etc.) are excellent. Two of my favorites are the duck that is available on the Dim Sum menu and the vanilla cake. Actually, I could make a meal from the huge slice of vanilla or almond cake that comes around occasionally. It is warm, fresh and some of the best cake I have ever had. During the week, Ding How is also filled to capacity at the peak of the lunch hour. The menu of lunch specials is varied, inexpensive and very tasty. I recommend the sweet and sour chicken or shrimp or the moo goo gai pan. From a man who does not have a knowledge of Chinese food, I have come to appreciate the taste and variety of Chinese from eating at Ding How for the past couple of decades.

It’s the only Chinese restaurant in town that serves dim sum. But the Chinese population is so small, the usual cart pushers are women, now being ‘replaced’ by a white kid and a black kid. It’s cute. Good immersion for the boys and an opportunity for old me to practice my rustic English, at long last, ha ha ha. Surprisingly, the food is decent, home made(I heard some restaurants are buying frozen …) I was full by the time we left — looked like my Chinglish worked, to some degree. In case you don’t know, pointing fingers work too, when order dim sum, -:) So be brave, give them a try.

Love this restaurant! It’s one of the staples I visit when I am in town. They have really good food and I love the sizzling rice soup. Great place!

Years ago Ding How was the place to go. those days have passed. I ordered two take out entrees. a Happy Family, and a Special noodle dish. To a tune of 24 dollars. When I opened the containers, they were less than half full. vegetables were sparse, meat was sparse. heck, put both together and they wouldn’t equal 1 entrée let alone 2. Being on the other end of town, I didn’t go back to voice my concerns. but you know what? I shouldn’t have to. there are other restaurants in town that know better… Steer clear.
