J T’s Shoe Care

I dropped my shoes here and was given a receipt with a pickup date. My shoes were not ready on the pickup date or either of the additional two times I went in to get them. The worker kept telling me they would be ready ‘tomorrow.’ They were never ready so after a few weeks, I just took them back unrepaired. By the way, when I picked up my shoes, the worker asked me repeatedly to describe the shoes so he could try to find them by looking all around the entire store because they apparently have no way of organizing the inventory! I went to Brady’s Shoe repair in Village Center and had no problem.

Their slogan is «Expert Shoe & Accessory Repair.» Pluses: They do very good repairs to shoes. They now call you when your shoes are ready. They have a decent public restroom next to their lobby.
Minuses: They are slow. If you drop off a pair of shoes, don’t expect to see them ready for nearly a month, regardless of when they’re promised.
If you’re in a hurry, use Aj’s instead.

James of JT’s has been around for EVER! He’s such a wonderful guy, super talented with anything leather (shoes; bags; proabably even hats) with a great personality. Pro: His shop has REALLY grown over the years. Con: His shop has REALLY grown over the years. In my opinion, he has more work than he and his employees can handle. Over the years, he’s dyed boots and purses for me, repaired shoes/​belts and re-​heeld and replaced taps in shoes; and all were well done, super-​quality work. He’s added «feet» to mom’s purses and worked on her luggage. He is a local landmark of sorts. TIPS: Add 3 – 4 weeks to any promised delivery time; call prior to coming to confirm your item is actually ready; come armed with alot of patience/​time on your hands, as the wait (to locate and pay for your items) can be lengthy and it’s a folksy/​conversational environment, so your check out process will involve solicializing instead of just grabbing and going out the door. Give JT’s a chance he’s fair, too; if the time you’ve waited for your item is extreme, he will gladly offer to reduce the price for you.

I have had my shoes repaired a couple times at another place (unfortunately not in Huntsville), but this time I was disappointed with the service at JT’s. First, it took two weeks just to repair some broken straps on some dress heels. Good thing, I didn’t need them sooner. Second, they say the shoes are guaranteed for pick up after 2pm. I showed up the exact day they were supposed to be ready right before they closed. They weren’t. Third, they said I could wait, and they would be ready in 15 minutes. They weren’t. I waited 30 minutes for my shoes that were supposed to be ready 3.5 hours earlier to be done.
What else? They didn’t offer a discount for my wait. They did apologize for the wait though, so for that, I will give them another star. The cost to fix my shoes was $ 25. After my experience, I don’t believe it was worth it. I will never go there again.
