Sam Houston University Hotel

It’s a small hotel with a rather unassuming outside, but the inside is quite nice and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. My guess is that the interior of the room were re-​done in the not to distant past, the bathrooms are very modern. The customer service is hit or miss because you are dealing with students. Upon checking in they didn’t seem to have my paperwork in order, but they were friendly about it. They totally made up for it later when I was able to use one of their cell phone charges for a few hours as I had left mine at home. If you are visiting the campus, it’s a super convient place to stay.

Do you need a place to stay in Huntsville and don’t want to spend a ton of money or deal with seedy motel characters, potential robberies, and dead hookers? Then you should definitely stay at the Sam Houston University Hotel.
The building itself was built by prisoners a long time ago and it feels like it could withstand a tornado. The front desk is staffed by college students who you can tell are struggling to stay awake — but they are very friendly if you need anything.
When we stayed there they were apparently doing work on the electrical system on the first floor of the hotel. The desk clerk put us in a room that had no electricity. When we asked about that she said that was accidental and they were keeping everyone on the second floor. We then moved up there and things were great. It was cold outside but we were plenty warm in our room.
Don’t expect a jacuzzi bath or honeymoon suite but the shower is warm with good pressure and the room heater works well. The TV has a great selection too. I didn’t bother to try out if there was free wifi there, I did see that the Sam Houston University Network was available but you might have to be a student to access it. The rooms are quiet and we didn’t hear any sounds from the other guests or from outside.
I would definitely recommend staying here if you’re needing a place to sleep and are wanting a cheap and safe place.
