Astro Motel-Hutchinson

The owner was so helpful and friendly. I was stranded in Hutchinson for a weekend (I crashed my car while driving cross-​country), and I was pleasantly surprised by the service.
Although the room was very basic, the water was hot, the heater/​ac worked, and there was a working cable tv. I would recommend this place to someone who has a low budget and doesn’t need a lot of bells and whistles, and appreciates good hospitality.

I stayed because of the previous review. I did not think the room even warranted the $ 59.00 rate. Both security locks on the inside door were broken — anyone with a key could have accessed the room. There was no coffee maker and one small bar of soap at the sink. The ceiling in the bathroom was stained. In fairness, the room appeared to be clean. The heat was noisy. This did not make for a good night’s sleep. The owner/​attendant was polite and helpful — but I could not recommend this facility. Also, I had to back out of the parking lot as there was so little parking, it was difficult to negotiate.

My friend and I needed a place to stay while we traveled around for our company, and our budget was $ 50. Yeah, so we didn’t really have a lot of options that didn’t involve bed bugs and fleas. The original rate for 1 King Bed was $ 65 plus tax, so I thought that we’d be shopping around town all night, but the owner actually had a real-​life, beating, compassionate human heart. When he heard that we were a non-​profit company that works with children, he dropped our rate to $ 50 a night and ate the difference on the taxes. I couldn’t believe it, he actually took the cash out his wallet and handed it to me. He said that he wanted us to be well rested for the kids tomorrow.
I’ve been on the road for 2 months now, staying in motels all up and down the eastern seaboard, through Louisiana, Texas, and now Kansas. I’ve met some lovely hotel workers and some who should go play in traffic, but I have never met anyone who was so kind to us and so very generous.
The room itself is pretty standard: clean linens, clean carpet, fridge, microwave, DVD player, TV w/​cable, free wifi, and small bathroom. It’s a nice little spot to crash for a few days and the management makes it all the more enjoyable. If you happen to be in the neighborhood, I’d definitely recommend it.
