Best steaks in the valley. Steaks melt in your mouth. Menu is very tasty. Friendly service. Highly recommend.

Stopped in here for dinner with my wife two baby’s(18 months &4 weeks) and my wife’s father. I was hesitant to come here because of our kids and I didn’t want to be «that guy»…but they assured me that it was ok and they gave us a nice table in the rear of the restaurant. We all ordered stake. The salad came out and was very good. The dressing was good(house Italian) and there were cranberries in the salad. The stake was very good and was cooked as ordered. Not too much or too little just as I ordered it. I would recommend this place to a friend and plan on coming back!

People here seem to be raving about the French Onion Soup, but I thought it was just okay(as some other reviewers have noted, a bit watered down). I got the 8 oz Hamburger, which was very good, the meat was cooked just too perfection and still a little juicy. The Steak and Sausage Bolognese was average, would not recommend. The reason this place gets four stars is easily because of the EXCELLENT service we had there, by far the best wait and bar staff I’ve encountered in any kind of restaurant. For this reason alone, I’d come back(and maybe actually order a steak this time around, they looked delicious).

You’d have a tough time finding another restaurant similar to Joseph’s in the Hudson Valley. Part of that is, of course, the menu. But another part is the ambiance that comes with the dining experience. It is a much more relaxed atmosphere than many of the bigger steakhouses in larger cities. We came here during Hudson Valley Restaurant Week, so besides the regular menu, the Restaurant Week menu was available. This was, IMO, a good deal, because it was essentially your entrée plus appetizer and dessert for about the same price. My dining companion asked about substituting a vegetable for the potatoes with his entrée and was told there were no substitutions for the Restaurant Week menu. We were fine with this because they were up front about it, but they neglected to mention that your entrée came with a portion of steamed vegetables anyway. For the appetizer, we both chose the butternut squash bisque. This had a very strong nutmeg presence — good if you like nutmeg, unexpected if you don’t. For my prime rib, I requested medium and was told the prime ribs were typically served medium rare. I’m sure if I insisted, I could have asked for it medium, or I could have asked for an end cut if possible, but I went with their recommendation and was satisfied. It was a perfect rare, juicy but not bloody, and yes, I could cut it with a fork. The short rib, on the other hand, while delicious, was a bit fatty. I appreciated that Joseph visited each table, and you can tell he takes pride in his restaurant. He was a bit taken aback about the comment on the short rib, but he was very polite about it even though we sensed an «I don’t know if I believe you» reaction from him. Service was casual and steady, and that was actually a nice break from the ultra-professional waitstaff presence you get at larger steakhouses. For me, a restaurant steak dinner is typically a once or twice a year thing. But the daily specials and Sunday brunch at Joesph’s provide enough variety in your options.

Not good. Unfortunately the onion soup was very thin and flavorless. The creamed spinach was just a cooked spinach with cream poured over it. Once again flavor lacking. The steak was just ok with a city price tag. Not worth the money.

Wish I could give less, service painfully slow, my onion soup was only a half of a bowl, wedge salad was 1⁄8 of a small head of lettuce, angus steakhouse Burger same as kids burger, and was sent back. Wiener schnitzel was ok nothing special. 2 kids burgers one schnitzel 2 milks, and no charge for the returned burger $ 82 before a small tip. Why is this place in business?

What a pleasant experience this place brought. Not only was the atmosphere perfect the food was amazing. After I left it felt like I left with a bunch of new friends! The services was impeccable. The food was cooked perfectly… I cannot complain about a single thing. I can’t wait to go back!

We went to visit Hyde Park, and were really glad we found Joseph’s Steakhouse for dinner! It was a very traditional American restaurant. Excellent service and friendly accommodating atmosphere. My husband had the Rib Eye steak, and I had an old-fashioned shrimp cocktail with just the right cocktail sauce. I haven’t seen this served in such a way for years, and it was delicious. We thought everything was a little pricey, but it is technically in the NYC metro area, I think.

Food was really great. Very surprised that on a Saturday night that it was not packed. Prime rib was delicious as was filet mignon. Salad and dessert(crème brûlée) also tasteful and flavorful. Michael an excellent waiter and very knowledgeable. Potatoes and creamed spinach also a hit. Real good value, too.

I attended a retirement party here recently and thought the food and the ambiance were fabulous. The restaurant did an excellent job working with the people who were in charge of hosting the retirement party for a family member. The food was delicious and they kept the water glasses filled. Drinks were a little steep at the bar but they were well made and plentiful. You got what you paid for. What really was great was the owner came over to me and told me that if my daughter(who was just 2 ½) didn’t like any of the«adult» food they could make her whatever she liked, even if it was just a plate of french fries. I was already apprehensive in bringing her, knowing she would be the only child and only did so at the request of her grandma(who was being honored at the party) so it made me feel so at ease that the owner knew this and specifically let me know. Parking can be a little tricky if this place gets really full but I would imagine that it’s really only for large parties. Joseph’s has a really nice, cozy and intimate feel to it and I would recommend.

I came in last month for an early dinner after taking an afternoon tour of Val-Kill, the Eleanor Roosevelt historic site close by. I was welcomed by the proprietor and seated. I was greeted warmly and so attentively. I tried their beef barley soup, which I was told was a meal in itself. They were right. The broth was rich and tasty. I ordered my main medium-well, but was told to have it medium, as the hot plate it came on would cook it further. That kind of attention to detail was much appreciated. I noticed that the evening staff coming in were all friendly with one another, that it seemed like they got along. It makes the restaurant experience all the more enjoyable when you know people like their jobs and get along with the people they work with. It’s also a sign that the place is run well. The food was outstanding, and the service was top notch. They were very helpful in helping me get back to my hotel, which was such unnecessary, but above and beyond mere courteous service. I highly recommend Joseph’s Steakhouse. If I am ever in the Hyde Park area again, I would not hesitate to dine here again.

Amazing! I should preface this with the fact that my boyfriend and I are steak and wine fanatics and very particular when it comes to quality of food as well as quality of service. With that said there are very few legitimate steakhouses in Dutchess County, so we were looking forward to trying Joseph’s. We absolutely loved it. Joe, the owner, came over to our table a couple of times and was very personable and charismatic– he made the experience memorable and made us feel welcome. The steak was delicious, along as the sides and appetizers and salads. Price was reasonable and what you would expect for a quality steakhouse. Good wine list. We look forward to our next trip to Joseph’s.

This review is two weeks late. It’s ok but definitely won’t be back. We waited forever to get a drink refill and I was very thirsty. Love the view outside! That’s a big plus. The restaurant is very welcoming. I ordered the duck and it was a bit on dry side. We had a fun table group so that helped. It was a bit disappointing that my friend ordered the steak medium and it came out very well done. Hard and dry, no red, no pink. They redid it and at this point we all finished eating. Steak came back rare. Cold and bloody. She was hungry but could not eat it and there was no more time to fix the meal. No we didn’t want to take it to go and recook two hours later as it was too raw and could make you sick. The prime rib worked out well for those in our party that ordered that.

Just came from a disappointing dinner at Joseph’s. Tried the stuffed clams, prime rib, lobster tail, and sauerbraten. The prime rib was okay. The lobster tail and sauerbraten were almost inedible. If I had to go back there, I would stick to ordering steak and potatoes. The service and staff were excellent and I did not experience any long waiting times as some of the other diners have mentioned. However, for the prices you are paying there, the food should be top notch and it’s mediocre at best.

My wife ate here this evening with some colleagues from work and can’t stop raving about it. She got there a little earlier than the other couple and was pleased when she was able to be seated and get some work done prior to their arrival. The waiter,(unfortunately she doesn’t recall his name) was amazing. She admits that he was incredibly attentive without being overbearing and was full of information regarding tourism for the greater Hyde Park area as we’re not from around there. Pertaining to the food, all guests ordered the filet mignon cooked with varying doneness and all were received exactly as requested and delicious. The ambience was perfect for a middle of the week evening out for a social gathering /light work related conversation.

Awesome service. Great selection of food. Not top rate food but really good. The shrimp for an appetizer was so so and they steak as well, however presented well. Hands down the best part was the service by all staff.

Ate here while visiting the Hyde park area with my fiancé to celebrate our anniversary. Appetizers were both excellent. We had the French onion soup and the chopped salad. Next we had the porterhouse for two. The filet side was very tender. The sirloin side only slightly less so. Overall the steak was great and cooked just as ordered — medium rare. The service was very attentive and everybody working there was very friendly. Highly recommend eating here if you’re in the area and looking for a good steak.

Let me preface this review with first stating that I have never eaten here! My best friend, who lives nearby, has a birthday coming up and I know she and her husband love this restaurant. I live in California and thought a gift certificate from Joseph’s would be nice to give her as a birthday gift. Unfortunately, there was not an option for me to purchase a gift card online, so I called the restaurant. A gentleman named Michael answered the phone and could not have been more sweet and helpful! He asked me what I wanted to write on the card, took my information over the phone and even paid for the postage for me! He was happy to offer his assistance and told me he would have it in the mail right away. Thanks Michael!
