Five hungry Kentucky boys were in search of a hearty, reasonably priced breakfast in Boston and we found it and more at Richy’s! The food was great, prepared only when ordered. The atmosphere was«down home» 1950’s and the people we met(staff and patrons) were warm, welcoming and engaging. We left with our bellies full and with money left in our pockets. Even more important to us, we left knowing that southern hospitality can still be found in south Boston – at Richy’s!

I had planned on getting lunch for my crew n myself, I had asked if they had a rest room so I could wash my hands before I ate. One of the woman cooks was so rude about staying no n she couldn’t be live 2 people had come in to ask her that !!! That we all decided not to eat there !!! Not good attitude or customer service… especially to a group of 6… that was alotta $$$ in food sales not to mention the tips they would have received !!! For a first time/last time customer I strongly suggest finding another establishment just a lil further down the road …

I was in the search for a breakfast sandwich, in the middle of the afternoon. Usually the only places still open that serve breakfast at that time are like Dunkin and i hate their nasty powdered eggs. I got a sausage egg and cheese on a plain bagel. They made my sandwich quickly and it was delicious. Bonus points because it was cheap. I never would’ve realized this place was here because it also has a convenience store. Truly a hidden gem. I can’t wait to go back and try something else.

Nice low-key place to have breakfast or lunch. The food is delicious and keeps you coming back for more! I definitely recommend this place if you are hungry and in the area.

So here is a place that is part convenience store and part restaurant. I walked in to find regulars chatting with the staff. An old school pharmacy counter with stools, a breakfast /lunch menu, and cigarettes, scratch tickets, and groceries. They did not have decafe at such an early hour(about 7:30AM), so I opted for juice, and they directed me to the cooler which had no less than 20 different juice options(fresh squeezed OJ fans will probably not find happiness here.) So there were some printed menus, but I decided to just look at the chalk board s above the grill, as they seemed to have everything for breakfast and lunch listed up there. They even have cute names like prescription 1 and prescription 2, basically describing the 2 eggs and side(s) with the familiar toast and home fries or hash browns. I opted for my favorite style of eggs(scrambled) and some bacon. As for the«toast» I decided to tempt fate and act liked a spoiled child and ask for a English Muffin off the grill, I was accommodated with no disdain whatsoever! I picked a bottle of juice out of the cooler(Mystic brand I believe) and sat down at the counter. I noticed they had some of those old school soda fountains but I did not ask or indulge. Sitting about 3 feet from the grill enabled to watch my meal being cooked — thankfully nothing out of the ordinary happened. On this day they had waffles, which some of the regulars said were worthwhile, but I had already placed my order, and I am not a huge waffle /pancake fan anyway. So the food arrives, and like most small places the portion size was above average. The hash browns were good and stringy — a sure sign of quality. The scrambled eggs were tasty, but not exceptional, however the bacon was great. It was not thick cut, but also not that thin — the flavor was what made it enjoyable — noting exotic or «apple wood smoked» but just a great example of what«standard bacon» should taste like. The English muffin was pleasing too — a big bigger and thinner that a Stop and Stop offering, and not a sweet one like a Bolo Levedo which sometimes happens when you go a bit south of the city. Corned beef hash fans take note — I saw the cooks scoping hash out of a can, so you should head to 50’s Diner in Dedham if you want the real thing. When I finished the food and juice, a total price was given to me — no check or bill or what have you. I paid in cash and was on my way. All and all a unique breakfast experience — not for better or worse.

Truly believed that this place was a hidden gem. Food can be good depending on who is cooking. I encourage everyone to try the food for yourself. The French toast can be amazing when made properly. Service at times can be better as well as some issues with unclean utensils but overall the food is great for the price and options. It’s great that you can get a breakfast plate any time of day. The sandwhiches are really good!

ok, based on the reviews stopped there this am. Place was as described but looking for the great breakfast. Wife ordered grilled bagel with side of bacon. I ordered Blueberry pancakes, eggs, bacon. So far so good. Food was delivered, wife requested jelly, jar pulled from fridge, wife opened jar covered with mold. My breakfast appears, looks good, cut into pancakes and they were not cooked inside. Ate the eggs, bacon and left the pancakes. Staff noticed yet said nothing, Disappointing to say the least!

Excellent greasy spoon! Just stools at counter so you might have to wait however the food is worth it. Had the pharmacy breakfast plate, eggs were fantastic, perfect for bread dipping… Yum! Definitely, needs more place to sit however it’s part of the experience. Only had breakfast though so can only vouch for that…

The breakfast was great. We had gotten it to go, enough for 4 people. Scrambled eggs with cheese, toast, pancakes, bacon, and shredded potatoes. Everyone had enjoyed it and there was more than enough food.

Best breakfast I’ve had in years. The bacon and hash browns were beyond perfect — eggs over easy were right on. Service was great — breakfast doesn’t get any better. Love the counter with stools setup as well.

I’m not really sure how I’ve had a place in Hyde Park for over 10 years and only NOW found this amazing gem. We headed over for Sunday brunch, which was SUPERB — we loved the general store drugstore atmosphere — it’s almost as if it was frozen in time! We took the two empty seats at the counter and drooled over the menu — basic breakfast and lunch fare, all made to order. The whole place is family run, the woman cooking is(I was told) Richy’s daughter, and she was assisted by a polite, friendly and helpful young(teenage) gentleman who was just learning the ropes of the family business. We ordered coffees(we waited for a fresh pot — I find that type of wait WORTH it!) eggs with bacon, hash browns and pumpernickel for him, eggs with bacon and corned beef hash for me, everything was cooked in front of us perfectly to order — classic, simple, and JUST what we wanted. Add to that, they have Portuguese hot peppers, which were the perfect companion to our meal, and we got ourselves some necco wafers and a lottery ticket afterwards. I left happy as a clam, and we’ll definitely be back.

I live right next door to Richy’s. I’ve been for breakfast a few times, never disappointed. Everything is made to order and it fascinates me to watch the food being prepared. Prices are very cheap, which is awesome! Happy that I live next door!
