I went to this salon and it was the worst Aveda experience I have ever had. I have been to many Aveda salons and I know they under pressure to sell product but Amy was so pushy with products and pushy with how she wanted to do my hair versus how I wanted it done. She insulted how my hair was at the time… the actual service of color and cut wasn’t even started until 45 minutes after my appointment time because this time was spent arguing with me about how I wanted my hair done and Amy trying to fit buying Aveda products in my budget. I DIDN’T WANTTHEPRODUCT! I DON’T LIKEBUYINGOVERPRICEDPRODUCTTHAT I DON’T EVENLIKE! I ENJOYTHESHAMPOOANDCONDITIONER I ALREADYUSE. THANKYOU! But she ended up using less color in my hair and hiding where she did it so no one would notice just so I could purchase the travel sized, overpriced bottles of shampoo and conditioner which was $ 20. I would have rather spent that money on my hair… Then after I had my hair cut and color, someone else blew my hair dry. She wasn’t even paying attention. She was staring off into space like she was on auto pilot and she kept burning my head with the blow dryer. This place is a disaster. This was such an uncomfortable experience. I will never be back. I suggest you AVOID this place. She didn’t screw up my hair but she did leave a bad taste in my mouth and I will never be giving her my business nor recommending Amy’s salon. Completely overpriced as well. This isn’t Seattle, it IS Idaho Falls.

Discovered the Defining Line while trying to locate a last minute appointment for my daughter. They were very accommodating and the service was excellent. My daughter received an excellent color and was treated very well! It wasn’t inexpensive but I don’t mind paying for a quality service. The color my daughter had done couldn’t be achieved and Great Cuts. Thanks Defining Line! I will definitely be back!

Great service and overall experience! I try to always schedule a men’s cut with Amy when I’m back in Idaho Falls. The massages are relaxing and the haircuts are great, but my favorite part is actually talking to Amy. She is something of a guru when it comes to starting and running a business, and she loves to talk about how to allow each employee to shine by knowing and focusing on their strengths. I travel all over the country for work, so I feel I can say you’re not likely to find a salon owner who puts this much thought into each detail of the customer experience. I look forward to coming back next time I’m in town.

The Defining Line Salon? She doesn’t even know what a straight line looks like. I was so happy when I got an appointment with Amy because I was led to believe she was the best and she even charged more than the others. I truly thought I had found someone who knows how to cut hair… but I was let down once again. For sure not the worth the time and money.

It was a last minute appointment, in from out of town. Up front I was told the price. It came with a shoulder massage with scented oils. The cut was fine, the massage too. If I was a local it would not be my go to place, but it was fine as a one time indulgence.

Very disappointed with my appointment today with Natalie. I felt like I was overcharged for all of my services. First charge of $ 39 for a partial scissor she literally spent less than 3 minutes trimming a few sections of my hair. Did not touch the crown at all. I had to pay another salon to cut my hair. She did not listen to my request for hair color or cut. Prices are ridiculous expensive for the services rendered. I live in Salt Lake and have visited the finest salons there, and have never paid as much for as this little as this salon charged. One of the craziest things about this salon is that your chair is so low that you cannot even see yourself in the mirror, either they do not want you to see what they are doing or Natalie was so wrapped up in trying to sale me products that she failed to notice that I could not even see myself in the mirror. I highly discourage anybody from wasting their time and money on this run down little over priced make do salon.

I have finally found someone to cut my curly hair! I had so many bad haircuts on my naturally curly hair that I finally gave up and started cutting it myself. When I found out Amy was a expert on curl I decided to give her a chance. I am so happy! Finally, I found someone that really knows how to cut curly hair! I returned about a month later for highlights. She did a perfect job again. I am probably the most picky person in the world about my hair and I have been 100% happy. I would recommend her to any of my friends.

I have gone to the defining line salon many times. In the past I used to be extremely happy with my hair cut and color. However, recently the service has gone downhill. I did not enjoy my last appointment at this salon. I scheduled my hair cut and hair color with a specific stylist and when I went in, they had me scheduled with the stylist I wanted only for my hair cut and a different stylist that I did not want for my hair color. They did not inform me of this until I went in. I asked for a chocolate brown color and emphasized that I did not want my hair to be too dark. In the end, my appointment took a ridiculous amount of time(3 hours), the color was too dark, and it was extremely expensive! The people are friendly and nice and the Aveda products are amazing, but I’m not sure if the price is worth it for results that I frankly do not like.

I’ve experienced this salon twice. First with McKensie(not sure on spelling), and she gave my hair the exact cut I explained I wanted. Really liked her, but she is no longer at the salon. My next apt was also booked with McKensie, and I had called the salon closer to the appointment date since I had forgotten when it actually was and that’s when I was told that I would be going to someone else. I was disappointed that I was not called to be informed of this, seeing as how my intentions were to specifically go to the girl I had trusted to do my hair again. Natalie did my hair the second appointment. My hair did not turn out how I had asked regarding color(I showed a photo of how my hair used to be so that there was no confusion). It looks fine, but it was far too expensive not to get what was asked for. Although the gals are very friendly there, they come off as salesman with selling product. Cute place, but I’ll be going somewhere else now :)

The excellent first: My stylist was Natalie who is relatively new to the salon, and really great. She had a great personality and demeanor, and could see that I was having anxiety about my planned haircut. She stopped everything to give me a neck and head massage and make a plan without rushing into a cut that I’d regret. She worked with me to solve some of my hair problems and I’m really happy with the results. The salon is more expensive than most so I appreciated that Natalie detailed things out for me on paper before we started. I had a nasty shock at a Rexburg salon last year at the register(over $ 300 for what I thought would be around $ 150), so I thought this was a great approach. Natalie had me initial the pricing so that we were on the same page from the get go. She did a great job on the haircut and while I did let myself get talked into buying product that I didn’t plan on getting it was all reasonable and stuff I needed anyway. The areas they could improve on: It’s a small, kind of cramped salon where everyone is on top of one another, and the stylists and assistants jump around helping each other. It worked out for me, but another lady that was there seemed to get stuck in limbo quite a lot and I was afraid, at one point, that they were accidentally overprocessing her hair. I’m not sure how she felt about the experience but I think I would have been annoyed to be forgotten /bumped so often. I don’t know, maybe they had it all under control, but it felt a little chaotic in that regard. Overall: I recommend the place, and Natalie especially. I’ll definitely be going back to her.

I’m so glad I found this place! Amy is great at what she does, and so is her staff. I always walked into that salon knowing I was welcome and in good hands. The stylists will work with you to give you the best version of what you want your hair to look like. Some people complain about the high prices, but you get what you pay for. Amy invests a lot in making her final product the best and her clients feel comfortable. Besides, if you look anywhere outside of Idaho Falls for a similar salon, you’ll notice Defining Line is actually pretty inexpensive!

This salon has a few unique things about it. They charge you per gram of color, so you’re never paying an unnecessary flat fee for product you won’t use. The front desk uses text alerts to confirm and cancel appointments. There’s a handful of stylists who work here, but the owner Amy and her employees use a detailed note-keeping system. Thanks to that open communication, I’m able to trust Amy to do my hair today even though I usually see color specialist Mackenzie. As a bonus, clients can order delivery from one of the nearby restaurants. This is the best upscale salon in the I.F. area, and you definitely get more than what you pay for.

Great team. Easy to talk to. Friendly, knowledgable, fun. Full highlights by Mackenzie done very well. Aveda products my fave. Salon gets a little tight after 6 pm when full of customers and stylists but they make it a cozy atmosphere so doesn’t seem as crowded. Prices are based on grams of highlight paste used plus labor. A quote is provided prior to starting. The prices i got compared about the same as 3 other aveda salons I’ve been to. Not inexpensive, but worth it. Good energy in the whole place.

This place is amazing! The people are very friendly, and they do a fantastic job. With every haircut they include a head and shoulder massage as well as a shampoo wash. They also serve complimentary tea, coffee, and cocoa. They use products with natural ingredients and essential oils. And a free hand massage comes with every coloring. They also include free neck and ear trim between visits. This place is more like a spa than just a hair salon. Their prices are incredible too. I wish my hair would grow back faster because I can’t wait to go back again!

This the only Bumble Salon in Idaho Falls. If you don’t know what that means then go ahead and keep getting a bad hair cut for 8 dollars at that other place, but if you want a good cut then I suggest you continue. I temporally relocated from SF, CA to I.F. and want to find a place as good as the place I was going to in San Francisco, this place came pretty close. Sure for Idaho Falls is twice as much but you look twice as good when your done. Guys, the girls here are nice, they make sure you look great for your lady and Bumble products are good for your hair. Ladies same goes for you; throw away that 4 dollar bottle of Shampoo go get a great cut, meet your new favorite stylist and get yourself some good products.
