Ok, listen, I don’t even normally like onion rings, but theirs are dope as hell. Strawberry shake = dope as hell. Tots = dope as hell Plus, they have the most slept on fast food burgers in KC. Come eat this sh! t.

My daughter loves HiBoy because of the Red Cream Soda. I’m a fan because the burgers don’t taste like they came off of an assembly line. Each thin patty has«burnt» edges and taste like someone just pulled it off the grill. I stay away from the onion rings only because I can’t stop eating them– they are that good. I wish the service was consistent. We always go to the Drive-Thru, and it’s a little hit-or-miss. So far, a rude server hasn’t spoiled our meal, but consistent, polite service makes a big difference anywhere.

I personally love HiBoy, their burgers are always amazing nearly 99% of the time. There was maybe only one time where my burger was overcooked but it wasn’t anything to cry over, the flavor was still amazing. Unfortunately, my friend and I went thru the drive thru recently only to be greeted rudely by the lady taking the order, she didn’t say hello, was demanding the order to get us out of the drive thru as quickly as possible, and we were the only ones there at the time so it didn’t seem that urgent to me to be rushed through the order. We shrugged off the rude greeting and made it to the window and the lady continued to be rude while she demanded our money for the order. We got home and the order wasn’t accurate, and it was kind of the last straw for my friend who had already was having a stressful day. So we called and made a complaint about the experience in particular, I didn’t fail to mention that I’m a very frequent customer and I was personally shocked at this experience in particular so I know its not like them to be this way but it still ended up happening and left us a bad(figurative) taste in our mouths about the establishment. The manager got on the phone and offered us a refund and apologized for the experience, so we went in a bit later to pick up the refund. The new lady at the window who wasn’t the same one as before greeted us very nicely corrected the issue without questioning it! Thank you random nice lady. Also people should probably wear name tags: p We don’t know who to call and complain about or thank for fixing the issue… name tags, people! Name tags. Regardless of the customer service portion of the experience, the food was great as usual, even if they left off some of the ingredients we paid extra for on the first run.

Oy… my wife is an Independence native so I’ve been hearing for a while how great it is. My first experience as mixed. I got a HiBoy burger — it’s basically a thin, big patty on a bun with some minimal toppings. The burger was cold, and didn’t have much flavor. Really, really, really not good. We also got onion rings… holy cow they were awesome. THEY were hot, crisp, and delicious. Also got a small banana shake which was awesome. So, I’ll skip the burgers from here on out — it was terrible. I’ll just eat onion rings and shakes from here on out ;)

I consider HiBoy an Independence landmark. Awesome burgers, awesome tots, and milkshakes that I wouldn’t mind getting fat over.

Nearly as good as they always been. The seared burgers are a tastebud delight! I say«nearly» simply because the coated fries are HORRIBLE!!! Why? Why? Why is every restaurant going to these crappy tasting horror tubes? I just don’t get it. Please go back to real fries to once again compliment the best burgers around!

One of my favorite burger places in the KC area. The onion rings are to die for. The prices are a little on the high side but to me its totally worth it. Huge shake selection as well which always makes me happy.

My husband grew up in Independence and we have been going to this(and other) HiBoy locations for over 20 years. We live in Overland Park, so we don’t get there often. The burgers, tots, onion rings and Limeades are what we love — and an occasional shake. I think the food is great — this ain’t health food, folks — but I agree with some of the other reviewers that it is expensive for what you get. The tots are crispy, not soft and the batter on the onion rings does not fall off when you eat them — because they are crispy also, I guess. The burgers are nice and greasy — not gourmet, just good. So, I give 4 stars for the food and take one off for expensive for what you get.

I went there because of the great reviews. I was greatly underwhelmed. Not a great quality to price ratio. The lady forgot my fries. I will say that the shake almost saved the day.

An excellent burger joint I’ve been coming here for years I never had a bad experience its always good. The onion rings are wonderful a little bit pricier then a fast food burger place but definitely worth it

The staff always seems a bit abrupt. The burgers are amazing. Almost everytime I order onion rings, tater tots or any other deep fried side, it’s not hot. Twice I’ve mentioned it while ordering and got a defensive, snappy response that each side is cooked to order. Um, obviously not because my sides aren’t hot. Anyway, service lacks, burgers are awesome, sides need to be served hotter.

This is one of those places you struggle to decide whether it should be a 3 or 4 star. 3.5 would be accurate. The food is pretty good. I like that they have tots. It has a local divey burger joint vibe that can’t be matched by the national chains. That being said, it’s expensive, relatively. You can quickly drop $ 10 and that’s before you order a whole lot. The basics will set you back a 10 spot. Now, ten bucks isn’t a ton of money, but for what you get, I’d say it’s pushing the limit of what people would tolerate. A little more bang for the buck and I’d have given it a 4.

We had friends in from out of town and went to church for Christmas carols they asked if there was a local burger joint besides McDonalds I suggested hiboy well am I embarrassed prices are so high for such a thin patty and Luke warm yuck the fries were warm and greasy not work the $ 30 bucks for 2 singles 2 doubles and 2 orders of fries and two drinks that’s sad I love a good burger joint there prices are close to blanc burger with a groupon quality no way guess five guys has spoiled me with hot food

Guess what? They DID lower their prices! Instead of $ 10.05 for a ¼ cheeseburger, onion rings, and a med drink it only cost me $ 9.95 for the exact same meal a year later! Wow! Here’s the reason why I think I’ll permanently give up… EVERYTHING was ice cold! The burger, the rings, and the Root Beer. So I basically paid ten bucks for a good Root Beer at the drive-thru. When I called, I reached the manager and all she did was make the excuse that it was late. So what, I said. If I come late, while you’re still open, I can expect cold food? I had to ask if that was all I could expect, an excuse? I am to call the daytime manager tomorrow and beg for my money back or another cold meal. This is not the HiBoy I grew up with. Last time EVER!

Love the onion rings, the high boy burger and a the hot fudge shake! That’s my go-to order here. This place is like the«Winstead’s» of Independence MO. It’s a nostalgic locally owned and operated fast food chain. If you are in the mood for something greasy and delicious this is your place!

Geeze. Talk about a blast from the past. Hi Boy is old school in every sense imaginable. Talk to the elderly folks and they will tell you that Hi Boy is reminiscent of the 50’s ad 60’s without a doubt. I’ve only been to the location not too far from Arrowhead Stadium and the Independence location that this review is based upon. The food is soooooo bad for you. But gawd it taste so good. The burgers, fries, onion rings, soda’s, and shakes are to die for. Greasy, messy, and artery clogging at it’s finest. I would have to say my favorite combination is the double burger with grilled onions, pickles, and mustard with a side of those extra crispy onion rings. Throw in a large coke with the crushed ice and I’m good for the day. Word of caution, be prepared to order because the cashiers have zero patience and move really fast and efficiently. There are daily specials and many items to choose from on the menu. Unlike the older Kansas City Missouri location, the Independence site is a little more modern and has inside seating. Nice little framed photo with Albert Pujols is inside as well. Supposedly, he still stops in on occasion. I know it’s kinda out of the way for some, but well worth the trip if you want to try old school drive in style food.

My wife says it should only be rated a 3, but I thought it was better than that. I really liked the burgers, but she wasn’t «overly impressed».

Taste is 5 stars. This place is delicious. But when I order a JUNIOR double cheeseburger, a SMALL tot and a SMALL soda, and the total is 9.00, I’m not to excited to eat there…

Pure Magic in your mouth! Again this is a 5 because for what it is suppose to be it is better than them all. heads and tails above any other chain in the area. This isn’t a gourmet burger and its not fine dining but for a drive-thru burger and onion rings place this is the tops. I try to scale my stars for what the place is and how it does what it is suppose to be. Fresh ingredients, tasty patty and a good bun to hold it all together. Just what you want on the run for lunch. Get on order of rings… very tasty.
