Went for dinner last night with 4 friends. Got there around 7:30, got a table around 8:15. If they won’t take reservations they should expand their waiting area because it was uncomfortably crowded. I thought I could grab a drink while i waited, along with 10 other customers, I waited 15 min(that’s not an exaggeration at all) to even be greeted by the bartender. Our server was slow and kept forgetting drinks, took our silverware w salad bowl pick up, forgot to bring new forks after our hot food was already on the plate. The only reason I give 2 stars versus 1 is because the food tasted great. Just seems like management doesn’t have their ducks in a row here.

It was good, not amazing but good. I have done both the sushi and the hibachi. I go back due to location.

We’ve eaten here twice, once just for sushi and the other time for the Japanese grill. I’ll start with the sushi side. Sushi was just ok, nothing special. A lot of the rolls sounded and actually tasted very similar. They need more variety. Also ordered the miso soup, they put tons of fried tofu in it which gives it a very weird texture. Not my favorite. Now for the grill, the chef was entertaining, nice portions for your entrée. Again the soup was different with spaghetti like noodles, not my favorite. The tables are pretty spacious since we had a large party. Would go back from the grill, but probably not the sushi.

There are much better Hibachi grills in the area. The reviews are true the salad dressing tastes and looks just like mayonnaise and the soup is beef broth with spaghetti noodles. The shrimp was okay and the steak was chewy. Not worth the money each meal cost about $ 26. The chef just cooked our food in front of us he only did the onion volcano trick and tossed shrimp. Other chefs were doing all kinds of tricks though. We didn’t try the sushi.

This review is for the sushi only. I really like Kobe sushi! I always get the Spicy Tuna roll and a second roll that varies. I also order Salmon Nigiri; as its always been my favorite type of sushi. Wendy is a very nice bartender/hostess as well. She makes ordering sushi to go a pleasant experience!

Went for sushi on a Saturday night. We only had to wait a few minutes to be seated. We had the calamari appetizer and shared a sushi/sashimi combo plate. The atmosphere was cool and we loved the food. We’re definitely going back soon!

Kobe Mexican Steak house. I ordered Sake and got a beer. The chefs spoke Spanish to one another. We’re in the Midwest so whatever. Spaghetti in chicken broth for soup. Mayonnaise on lettuce with a tomato slice for a salad. No jokes. No onion volcano. No tricks. The guy banged the table a few times. Wife ordered steak and scallops. I ordered shrimp and scallops. We got no scallops. They prepared only my scallops after I ate the rest of the food and burned the sauce which tasted like molasses. Scallops weren’t cooked through. Complained to manager and got an argument and not much compensation. Then we got someone else’s ticket. Will not be returning, ever and will spread the word. We’ve been to dozens of hibachis all around the country(NE, FL, KS, GA, CT, NY to name a few). WORST HIBACHI EVER

We like to go out a lot and trying out new restaurants. I’ve been to many hibachi/tepanyaki places and this is by far the worst place I’ve ever been! First of all, they gave us this bowl of lettuce with a slice of tomato with mayo horseradish dressing. Second, they gave us a bowl of soup and it had spaghetti noodles in chicken broth with oyster sauce. We ordered steak, shrimp, and scallops. The cook didn’t do any jokes or tricks. The food is pretty bleh and unseasoned. I just had salt and pepper in my steak and shrimp. Oh and brown gravy(hollandaise sauce he calls it), lol!!! Isn’t hollandaise sauce white? We didn’t get scallops so we told him about it and they cooked us some. The cook seems irritated and kept tapping his spatula on the grill and I don’t think he was paying attention because he burned the outside of it but it’s still raw inside. We talked to the manager/owner but she wasn’t sympathetic and she argued about the food and the service. Bottom line is I don’t think I’ll be recommending this place to any of my friends or family! In fact, I’ll tell everyone to stay out of this place! WORSTOVERALLEXPERIENCE!!!

This is the first time sense moving to Missouri that I an having sushi, so far I am not impressed. I got here before they opened and they let me wait than they asked 8lif I was having steak or sushi I said both they looked at me like I spoke a third tounge. They sat me at a table for steak and the waiter came over and when he came he put a pitcher 9f water down on the preheated grill so I was served a hot cup of water with ice… now I am waiting for food and I have a feeling g that the steak I ordered is being cooked in the kitchen while I am sitting on this highly uncomfortable bench made for fat Albert. Even those this grill and the menu both say steaks will be cook by a personal chief. … I do not need to wait for the rest c a use I will not be coming back to this place when all there is to them is the look. So an hour and half later the sushi comes and it is bomb I loved it and the chief come with my ribeye of that is what you call it… and he puts it and shrimp on the grill, I say I am allergic he asked if I told my waiter I said yes first thing and he has to change everything so I wait now the waiter comes with salad… really…chief comes back cook my food in 3 min and ad he leaves asks 8f u got rice I said no… he looks mad and later the waiter come with rice dry as hell and soup I did not even know it was a meal but the chief did… anyway 80 dollars later I will be back for sushi but the steak I could have burn at home. So sushi 5 stars everything else is bad every way.

I’m writing this review solely for the sushi portion of the steakhouse. Came in on a Monday afternoon right at opening. Although the restaurant was empty it took awhile for the waiter to help us. The sushi came out fairly quick, about ten minutes for the four rolls that we had ordered. They were all very good, and comparable to the rolls I remember from California. I opted not to have sashimi or nigiri simply because it felt heavily overpriced, especially with a five piece minimum for sashimi. The waiter that served us didn’t seem to understand what we asked and told him. I will be back for more sushi, but I’m not entirely sure I’ll try the teppan portion.

This is THEBEST place for sushi in Independence/Lees Summit area! We have tried other places and are always disappointed because it wasn’t as good as Kobe. The owners are super nice, Wendy is a great waitress and Crane/other sushi makers are awesome. Great food, great service. Best sushi bottom line.

Food sucked… Horribly overpriced… If you want to overpay for a chewy/gristly piece of steak, flavorless shrimp… Kobe is the place for you.

Just okay. Overly expensive for not a lot of food. $ 1.50 for spicy mustard? Probably won’t be back.

First, I have to admt that I am a regular. When we bring the kids or a group and go to the grill side we always have a blast and leave completely stuffed. When we get sushi on the other side it is always great. Either way, they roll out the red carpet and treat us like kings. The friendly staff is the added bonus since the consistantly great tasting food is what really keeps us coming back. Highly recommended!

Took a party of seven, ages ranging from eight to 62 years of age. Got a table around the grill with only our party. Good food from the steaks to shrimp to the chicken. So much food, we all took some home. Steaks were done to order. Onion soup is an acquired taste, but good with the noodles. Salad dressing spicey but good. The Chef kept the younger of the group entertained. Overall good food and experience.

Have become a regular there. Wife and I really like either side of the restaurant! I like getting there early. Easy to get full on what you like to eat. Can’t remember being dissatisfied in the years of dinning there. Good for family and group partys.

Are you looking for superior sushi? How about amazing tapenyaki? What about a lively and fun atmosphere? Well, Kobe is the place for you! I have been going to Kobe since it opened. My dad introduced me to sushi here. I have been many, MANY, other places, and while I might find a few creative rolls elsewhere, they just can’t measure up to the quality and freshness of Kobe. I may also be biased because I know the care the owner takes into EVERY aspect of his restaurant. He is an incredibly nice man who I’m sure would be great friends with each and every one of his customers if he had the time. But you want to hear about the food, don’t you? Let’s start with the grill. Your party is seated and food is ordered. The entire meal is cooked in front of you in show style. There are many restaurants that do this, so those who frequent them will see similar styles, but I occasionally see a new trick being shown, so it’s clear that these chefs are always out to learn what’s new in the field. If you’re not up for a real heavy meal, you can order from the sushi menu as well. The sushi, in my opinion, is the hero of this restaurant. I’m not saying it’s better, it’s just my favorite. Whether you want sashimi, nigiri, or rolls, you’ve come to the right place. There are so many choices and you can always ask if they have anything special that night. You never know when you’ll be told about the abalone, live octopus or live scallops. I would disclose delivery date, but I’m too selfish for that(Sorry!). Another really cool perk? If you are lucky enough to be dubbed a true regular and make an effort to really get to know the staff, you just might end up getting to have a hand in creating a new roll(on or off the menu, they WILL remember it). Many of the sushi chefs, both current and past, have rolls named for them, but there are other special rolls named in honor of guests held in high esteem. One of which is raved about on this very site. So you’ve had Nara, Drunked Fish and maybe even Mint Asian, but if you haven’t had Kobe, you really are missing out on the freshest experience in the metro! Seriously, what are you waiting for? The ocean at your door step? You won’t get any close than Kobe! Trust me.

«Loved the computer roll… tuna was great and the albacore was tasty too! Great service! But couldn’t give that fifth star because the spicy tuna wasn’t as good as other spots in town.

Large birthday party, and we were running late… joined the group after they had been seated. Yes, I know we can’t order from the grill when we came late, we don’t mind ordering from the sushi menu. Why was the hostess so bitchy about it? Anyway, the sushi was quite fresh and yummy, especially the tuna roll. The ribs app, on the other hand, was miniscule and not really worth it. The grill chef was reasonably entertaining, although he didn’t really seem too into it. Maybe he was having an off night. Moral: don’t be late.
