Great to see all these five-star reviews — I’m a big fan too. Any baker can have a bad day, but nine times out of ten their quiches are the best I ever had. Seating is limited and you had best be prepared to be disappointed on that score, but the main drag of Indep has numerous venues and Old Town is a pretty reliable destination — there will be some place that can accommodate you. Good value for money.

We just moved to the area and have been here twice. Both times we had lunch, but ended up taking goodies home. Their soup is made from scratch and delicious! We had sandwiches trying both the sourdough and the baguette… both stars in their own rite! We also took quiche, pastries and carrot cake for later; always delighted in our choices! This is a great place!

Ok the the very best thing iv had and haven’t gotten enough of is the pumpkin chocolate chip cookies! It closes right when I get of work so it’s hard to get any fixes during the week lol. The highlight of Main Street Independence in my eyes. I had the luxury of living just down the street from this bakery over the summer and can I say yum!!! I can’t get enough of their pastries, especially their almond bear claw. Even more, ALL of the staff are wonderfully friendly, the ambiance is warm and welcoming, and the delicious smells of baked goods drifts down the sidewalk from their doors like a little bit of heaven every day.

Super delicious. Katie is super friendly and a total sweetheart. Beautiful wedding cakes, but also great to just sit down and have some quiche. Just amazing.

The bread and sandwiches are delicious. The staff is friendly. I like the«build your own» style and for $ 5.00 you can’t get a better sandwich.

Love the oven bird! We get lunch sandwiches on a regular basis and they are delicious, full of lettuce, onions, pickles, tomato. The bread is always fresh. They have great pastries and the staff is always friendly. They put alot of hard work into their business and it shows. I choose this bakery over the one across the street everytime and will continue to also! I just wish they were open Sunday’s though

I love to go here on the weekends and get quiche it’s just the best. The pastries are also delightful. We went in on a Friday morning before leaving town and they were just pulling the pastries out of the oven so yummy fresh hot best in town. We will continue to go back.

Outstanding service and excellent bread. This past week i called about glutenfree bread. They weren’t even open but answered the phone anyway and offered to bake one for me the next day. I couldn’t believe that they would bake one loaf of glutenfree bread. The next day i got a call to tell me the bread was ready! The glutenfree bread is excellent! Thank you Katie and staff for great service and wonderful food!

Love love love love! Katie(the owner?) is so amazing. The food is great, the service is great and the ingredients are fresh and local! I just really feel good supporting this establishment. We used them to make fresh bread for a birthday party we hosted. I also love that they offer a vegetarian sandwich with hummus. Yummm!

This place is the best bakery I’ve been to in the Salem-Independence-Monmouth area. It’s a true gem that seems to not get the traffic that I personally feel it deserves. The fresh baked goods are delicious; in addition to being tasty, their prices are remarkably reasonable. I find myself eating here at least twice a week if I can afford it. Whether you’re eating healthy or caving into your sweet side, the Ovenbird can accommodate. In addition to the good food & prices, the owner one of the kindest & hardest working people I’ve met. I highly recommend a visit.

I had the quiche and a half sandwich and my daughter had a cinnamon roll. Everything was fresh and tasty. They were in the middle of a pretty substantial rush but the two employees working handled it well. I have a feeling I’ll be back again soon.

Hand pies are so so great, but that’s basically all I ever tried here. Service has been good too. They let me place a few requests and orders over the phone since i started coming here.

The sandwiches(you can get what you like on them) are made with homemade bread or croissants, some of which are gluten free if you roll that way. Not enough for you? Soups are fabulous and the quiche is to die for. What. still more? Don’f forget to take home a piece of pie. My favorite aspect of this bakery(because I live in Independence) is that I can go in and order croissants or pies for holiday meals, tell everybody I baked them myself, and be the most popular hostess in my family. Thanks to Ovenbird for setting up their artisan shop in our tiny town.

Horrible customer service. The women waiting behind the counter acts as if you being there is an inconvenience to her and is annoyed with your presence. No water, no utensils or napkins, no smile and she never asks how things are. Don’t dare ask for anything either, with her back turned on you she’ll point where you can get it yourself. I feel bad for the other owners as the bread is pretty good.

Cute little bakery and a wonderful addition to Independence. We have a no gluten family member and can always find something delicious for her, which is great. Their prices are very reasonable and the quantities are generous. I haven’t had lunch here, but do enjoy getting an afternoon pastry once in a while. So far their gluten free almond cake and normal croissants have been a highlight. I don’t know if the place has wifi, but it would be a great café to study at for local area college students if they do.

Who would have thought that you could find a bakery of this caliber in a small City like Independence. The fresh bread smells permeate the street and they even have gluten-free that is outrageously delicious. Always fresh and long hours.

The Ovenbird Bakery is great! The bread, scones, pies, sandwiches, and coffee are wonderful. The décor is modern and the staff is amazing. Independence was in need of a great spot like this!
