For a 100 year old farm house, this was a great experience for my family. If you’re expecting a hotel you will be disappointed. That being said, the rustic charm and out of the way location suited me just fine. I’d definitely go back.

Hop ‘n Bed was not worth our time or money(normal cost is around $ 180 per night, unless you are a member of the Rogue Nation – free to join – in which case, the cost is $ 108). After this experience, I will not support Rogue any longer. Though it is a great concept, and Rogue is doing cool stuff by having the Grow Your Own(GYO) series of beers, their own farm, their own line of spirits, and their own creamery, they are doing it with shady and overpriced business dealings. The house smelled like mold, there were ants and other bugs in the kitchen, and the beds were hard and uncomfortable. It was in desperate need of renovations. Bathrooms are shared among the guests with one on each of the 2 floors. The sink in the upstairs bathroom leaked. Our free beer to go with our bed turned out to be a bomber of Irish Lager(not even part of the GYO series to which the farm associated). Rogue lists this beer at $ 6.75 online, so a total of $ 13.50 was shelled out for me and my wife – hardly a deal when you consider what other actual bed and breakfasts spend preparing fresh breakfasts for guests. We had to pay for any other beer we wanted at the tap room(no discounts for guests of the Hop n Bed). And the food was ridiculously overpriced: Fries were $ 7 and some soup with meatballs was $ 14. The fries were good, but not $ 7 good, and the meatball soup did not taste fresh. Plus, the tap room on the farm closed at 9PM, but when we showed up just before 8:30PM(after a nap on the hard bed), they said last call had already been made. meaning we could not order a single drink more. I think last call was at 8:15PM! I do not believe that it takes 45 minutes to put dishes in dishwasher and close down a taproom. In the description, Rogue makes a big deal about how this experience is about a place to sleep and drink beer, but it was not conducive to either. They also claim to have eggs in the fridge for guests to cook, but there were none. Instead, displayed on a kitchen counter was a list of places to eat breakfast in Salem. Anyone who wants GYO on tap or to purchase some specialty Rogue beers or spirits should make the long drive out to the farm and bring your own food. I do not recommend staying the night.
