After seeing a few iffy reviews we were hesitant to go here but after seeing the full parking lot we decided to give it a try. I’m so glad we did. The food was great. I had the chimichanga. It was big enough for two people. I took half home and had it the next day. Their chips are very fresh and the salsa excellent. We also ordered the iguana cheese dip and the large was too big for four people. Everyone enjoyed their meals and said we will go back. Great waitress kept our tea glasses full on a hot summers day.

First time experience, and I’m glad I didn’t listen to the naysayers. The chips and salsa were immediate and hot. The salsa, quite heavy on the cilantro but good still. The guacamole was fresh with chunks of avocado still left, and tomato. I ordered the chicken enchilada and the chicken taco. Both came with rice and beans. Hot and fast and in a blink it was gone. I couldn’t make it to the taco so I’ll look forward to eating it over the sink tonight. Our waitress was Hannah. Attentive, informative, and very friendly. We will definitely come back!

Hadn’t been there in a while and decided to go after a Royals game. Mandaree disappointed it’s not nearly the same. I’m not sure if there’s new cooks are new management or both but the food is not what it used to be. The refried bean dip appetizer was a reason to go on it’s own and it’s off the menu now, I think will have to find a new place.

Nice looking place and the tostado/tacos were very good. Service was not good. No offers of refills for water or Dr Pepper. Rice dry and tasteless. Chips and salsa good.

So this place is full of middle to older aged individuals on a Monday night. I ordered a strawberry margarita. It was very good. Then we got Iguana dip. It’s your typical Mexican cheese. I ordered a chicken cream cheese burrito with jalapeño sauce. It wasn’t very good. This place is average. There’s no variety on the menu. The food is bland without sauce, no kick.

We just tried The Salty Iguana this evening for the first time and it was awesome! Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. They have a decent happy hour, margaritas were good. I got chicken fajitas and my husband got the beef street tacos. Both were delicious and the chips and salsa were good. I especially liked the sweet flavor of the salsa. We decided on dessert even after all the food we ate. The fried ice cream was so good and they gave you a lot! Overall, the food was excellent and pricing was reasonable, you got a lot for your money.

Service isn’t the best but management has made up for it in the past. It’s nothing special here just your traditional tex mex American Mexican food.

Have been wanting to try for a while now. Pretty disappointed as everything was very bland. But service was great.

This place could use a thorough cleaning but otherwise a great experience. we were seated immediately even though they seemed very busy. Drinks chips and salsa were brought right out and refilled promptly. Our food was on the table within 7 minutes of ordering and steaming hot. The food was delicious large portions and priced very fairly. The rice and black beans are awsome. This place is worth a try. If you can sit in Rachel’s section great server.

This review is not bias by any means. I did used to be employed here in the early millennium. Salty Iguana has been an Independence staple for many years, and I am glad to see that after so many years, the restaurant is still going strong with it’s loyal clientele and faithful regulars. The chips and salsa that are served to each and every table are a bit different, and might not be what you expect. They are made fresh daily in house, I know because I have made them a few times. The salsa is smooth, not chunky, which Is what makes Salty unique. The chips are thin, and salted, because who needs all that extra sodium in their lives anyways? Jessica Julo is by far one of the best bartenders in the biz today. Stop by on Wed or Thurs and see her in action! The staff is always friendly and ready to please. The drinks are cold, the food is hot, what are you waiting for? Try one of Independence’s best kept secrets today!

Good food, great service. My family and I sat in the bar to watch the royals game. Our servers name was Ashley, she was fantastic! Our drinks were never empty. I recommend going on a Thursday when the margaritas are only $ 3! And best salsa I have ever had its perfect if you are not a big fan of spicy salsas.

We had 8 adults and 4 kids on a Sunday afternoon. We live in Overland Park and have tried the one at 135th — wasn’t crazy about that one but the group we were with wanted Mexican after church and this was the closest. We were happy to discover free Iguana dip since the Royals had won the night before — the problem was, it just isn’t very good — good thing it was free! It tasted like white velveeta with spinach. The chips and salsa are not great either — chips are dry, on the thicker side and no salt. Adding salt does no good, it just bounces off. The salsa is sweet, almost like ketchup so we asked for a spicy — a little better. The food seemed to take a long time to come out even though the dining area we were in was only half full and everyone else had already been served. Our food did come out hot though and everyone liked what they ordered except for the nachos — not a lot of toppings and she thought the chips tasted stale. Our server was very nice and great at refilling drinks, chips, and salsa! Lots of tvs — we were able to have conversation and watch the Royals! Another thing we noticed while we were waiting for our food we all got really warm — like the air-conditioning stopped working — about 20min later it started cooking down again. We asked our server and she said it just does that sometimes. One of my boys was having a birthday so the server brought him sopapillas — I would never order or pay for these — oddest thing ever — we are used to puffed version /hollow inside — no, these are solid, dense, fried dough balls rolled in cinnamon sugar.

Not bad, not bad at all. Food was decent, but I’ve had better. Guacamole didn’t taste fresh. Margarita was watered down. I’d have to be desperate to come back again. I’m giving 3 stars because my husband liked his food.

Bleh! Was it fast and friendly, yes. Was it delicious and good enough to make me come back, no. Sorry Salty, you’ve never made me a fan and this time I’m callin it quits. Food is just bland and a little on the expensive side for what you get. They have very little vegetarian options which is also uncommon for a Mexican joint.

We were really looking forward to trying this place. It’s a bit pricey to be a casual Mexican restaurant. The food was fresh and really good. I recommend the guacamole. The décor is whimsical with iguanas painted in different murals. My kids will like it.

Really good! Glad my wife and I decided to stop in. I’ve heard the commercials for The Salty Iguana for years, especially when I lived in Lawrence. Never tried the place. My wife and I were out shopping and decided to pay this location a visit. We got in right before the after 5 Friday rush. We were immediately seated, but it wasn’t long before the waiting area filled up. We ordered the Chili con Queso. Could have ordered the Iguana Dip, which is a white cheese with spinach, but I don’t care for spinach. Very good. Very tasty. The huge chips were served warm. Excellent. My wife really enjoyed the salsa as well. Entrees were very typical for us. Wife got a chimichanga with the Iguana Dip. I got the Save the Iguanas platter, which was 3 cheese enchiladas. Both of us really enjoyed our meals. After having the Iguana Dip on her chimi and the queso, my wife preferred the queso. She said the meat in her chimi was excellent. She enjoyed the rice as well. My enchiladas were delicious! One of the surprises of the night, however, was the beans. Many mexican restaurants serve refried beans. Here, we got black beans. Wow! Flavorful and delicious! I couldn’t stop eating them! Great experience! We would go back for certain!

Three stars is all I could muster. We came for taco Monday, 1.75 street tacos and deep fried tacos. They were good, but the Salsa was very thick and sweet. They also had a hot sauce that was better, but still not my cup of tea. Food was Luke warm for just coming out of the back. I would return for the cheap taco Monday, but can’t say I would pay 10 dollars for anything else on the menu.

I really used to love this place. The chips and the hot salsa are some of my all time favorites and is what gets them the third star. The rest of the food could be better. The Cream Cheese Burrito was supposed to have«Jalapeño Cream Cheese Sauce» on it, it had what tasted like just plain old cream cheese spread on it. And the food here is never hot, it’s always just lukewarm. Only reason I’ll return is to get chips and salsa to go.
