Great bar not far from downtown. African American owned. Everyone is very welcoming /social. Learned from who I believe is the owner, or owner’s daughter, that LJs has been around for 43 years. Comfortable, relaxing atmosphere. Small place with a bar on the north wall and seating on the south with a narrow aisle in between. Gets packed on the weekends, but never obnoxious Middle aged crowd that is there to socialize and have a good time. Brighter lighting with consistently great music. Overall very clean & organized, you can tell the owners care and want to provide their customers/friends with the best. Maybe 10 – 12 stools at the bar. Stools themselves are unique with armrests. A marble/granite bar top with classic wood rail and a box footrest. The bar face is also unique in that is angles away from the bar until it extends 4−6″ out when 6−8″ above the footrest. Assuming this is to provide space for the built in lighting. Not too disruptive since knees are normally higher. Bar back is mostly glass shelves and bottles. Huge selection of alcohol here. Nice HDTVs spread throughout that are usually tuned to sports. Solid bar with good crowd and great owners.

The people here are friendly, and the drinks are strong! Nice Hole in the wall, after work place! What else can you ask for?

Stopped by with co-workers for an after work beverage and this place is AWESOME! Gwen, the bartendress, is a generous pourbon the drinks and an friendly smile. Other patrons were friendly and courteous. Great«mom and pop» feel and very clean bathrooms. This makes high marks on our list of best places to grab an after work drink.

I have been going here for a few years. It is the oldest black owned lounge in Indy. This place is not a bar… it beautiful and serve some of the best drinks for your money. Gwen the owner, with her brother keep the place chill and are all about the customer. The jukebox dates back to when there parents owned the bar. It has some of the best blues and groove music in the city. Safe for single woman, friendly atmosphere… Love it!
