I cruised past this place late one Friday night, and thought«ooh, this would be fun for my mom!» I made a reservation for high tea(they are required) and when we got there, we were greeted and seated right away. We ordered our tea(I went for a hot chai, my mom had an iced orange, both were yummy) and a few minutes later, our food came out– a three tiered affair that had the finger sandwiches, scones and tortes, and at the very top, chocolate dipped fruit. Another bowl of fruit salad came out a couple of minutes later. The sandwiches, including a chicken salad on croissant, were so good that we were fighting over the last ones. Oh goodness, I was full before I even made it to the scones with real lemon curd and clotted cream. After that, I was ready to food coma, and my mom wasn’t much different. We loved looking at the knickknacks, and we were very happy! I can’t wait to come back with the BFF, and my sister, and my circle of girls, and…

This is the perfect place to take your Mom, Sister, Daughter, BFF, or Gay Husband for a languid afternoon of girlie bliss. I took my Mommy & my BFF and we all did the yummy-yummy chair dance more than a time or two during our decadent 2 hour girlie frenzy. Soup, sandwich, & salad lunches that optimize the art of comfort. Then a course of pastries, & chocolates to top off the occasion. Add gift shop quality chocolates, candles, and art and we really do find girlie nirvana! Soon to add outdoor seating in warm weather, which I can’t wait for. ** Bonus tip: I recently read that tea consumption helps to prevent obesity, so ladies in my translation this means all calories consumed at a tea room are rendered null & void. So yes I plan to visit The Iris on a very frequent basis.

This cute tea room is near my home, and I’ve gone twice. The hours are kind of limited, so make sure you double check before heading out. It’s closed all Sundays and Mondays, and on other days is open from 10am to 5pm with lunch items served from 11am to 2pm. There’s a laundromat right next door, so you could always do a load of sheets and have tea while you wait for your clothes to dry. The tea is well-made, with high quality loose-leaf organic tea and the water at the right temperature for the variety you’ve chosen. A unique feature is that you choose your cup and saucer from the owner’s collection, which is on display in an antique cupboard. I tried the potato soup here and it was good but a bit onion-y for my taste. The sandwiches run in the neighborhood of $ 8 – 9, but my companions said the ingredients were fresh and high quality. There are vegetarian choices on the menu of soups, salads, and sandwiches. The interior is very nice, but it isn’t so «girly» looking that men look out of place. A variety of local items are for sale, including garden art and chimes, greeting cards, chocolates, art, and pottery. Tea blends are also for sale. The owner, Miranda, encourages the use of her space as a community gathering place, and has even hosted a community meeting here after hours. She is also a florist, and that business is called Bloomz. As a place to hang out and drink tea, 4+ stars. As a place for lunch, 3 stars because the prices are high for the area.
