What a wonderful café. They offer a great selection of vegetarian sandwiches asking with a fresh salad bar. The sandwiches are great, I am partial the the caprese sandwich myself, and the tuna melt is on point as well Besides the great food and incredibly friendly staff, the Hummingbird Café really appears to embrace the local community as showcases by their decorations commemorating the Irvington Halloween Festival, a great touch.

Hummingbird Café is a great addition to the Irvington neighborhood, and a perfect lunch choice for those who work near the area. The owner incorporated all of his own recipes in to the menu and they are delicious!

first time. nice location… hidden. across the street from the bonna shops and coal yard coffee. as far as i can tell, it is a relatively new business and it def has potential to grow. the salad bar is okay — it’s all fresh and good but it is small. the coffee seemed to not be anything local or ‘brand name’ so-to-speak.(i normally ask what is brewed before i order but totally spaced this time) the girl behind the counter is friendly and so is the chef. it has a lot of space and cool décor. it’s worth the try. they have wifi and outdoor seats and, again, it’s a great location for peace and quiet. petite menu — they basically have a little bit of everything — sandwich, soup, salad, dessert. it just seems like it’s missing something… music maybe? they have room for it… ;)

Lovely little café with friendly staff. The salad bar looked fresh, but I went with the tuna salad sandwich – it was great! Looking forward to trying more, including the vegetarian options. Nice addition to Irvington.

It is a MUSTGO! The Hummingbird Café has great vegetarian options, with a modern décor, and great service. I have one suggestion: Please offer ½ a Sandwich and Soup Combo. Your sandwich was so big and so good I couldn’t eat all of my soup or salad. Though for an afternoon snack I did eat my Chocolate Cupcake with Peanut Butter Frosting, it was delicious. Welcome to the neighborhood. Congratulations on the Café’ and much success!

A welcome addition to the Irvington fold. A nice little café with modern décor and just what they say they are: Salad, Sandwiches, and Soup. There are vegetarian items available, and the quality ingredients make up some tasty selections. We have had the cheese soup, the potato soup, the quesadilla, and the Turkey Montana. All were delicious in their own right. I really enjoyed the cheese soup. It was billed as an alpiney cheese soup, which I chose to believe was because maybe a little Alpine cheese was used in it. The quesadilla had a delicious flavor with the chorizo in it. The guacamole is the highlight of the Turkey Montana. The salad bar looks fresh and inviting, and the young lady at the counter said the blue cheese dressing is made in house. I’m looking forward to trying it. Leaving off the one star was not a negative as much as my belief that there is the potential to take this to another level. I think it’s smart to start out with what you can handle and grow from there. For example, they have dessert in the way of cupcakes made by Simply Divine and some ice cream bars, but I’d be interested to see if they could at some point make their own desserts. Just a thought.

Was actually pleasantly surprised with the food. The menu is small and simple, but the food came out better than expected. The atmosphere isn’t too bad. On a Sunday afternoon, there was only one other group there.

I am always looking for good vegetarian options for my son. After resting most of the day, we ventured out to his guitar lesson. Afterwards, the kid proclaimed himself famished. The Hummingbird Café has been on my radar and is only a couple of blocks from the music store, so off we went. I was pleased to see the charming décor. In my 11 years in the area, the location had previously been a tea room and a vintage store. It is neat, clean and modern with a respectable amount of seating. There are pictures from the notable Irvington Halloween festival and the vintage shop on the walls. I like the high corrugated metal seating bar a lot. People have said on the local Facebook page that the menu is too small. I disagree. There is just enough something for everybody. Have the complainers not watched any of the restaurant rescue shows? It’s a far better thing to start out small, keep to a budget for your food costs, and perfect what you do serve. I will attest the hummus with vegetables was decent. I’ll eat hummus with veggies any time, and this was not grossly oily — whoever made it on premise had a pleasingly light hand with the tahini. My son snarfed down his Caprese sandwich with spinach, mozzarella, tomato and basil pesto. While he proclaimed it a tad bit bland, he did eat the whole thing. I dinged them 1 star because it was not busy when we’re in there; the gentleman who ordered after us got his food first, and basically it should not take 20 minutes to press a sandwich and plate some hummus.

This is a wonderful little local spot in Irvington! It has quite a few vegetarian options and even has a salad bar. I ordered the Turkey Montana sandwich(the guacamole won me over) and it was delicious! The atmosphere was friendly and clean. I highly recommend and look forward to enjoying more tasty meals from here!
