I really wanted this to be different. I started pleasantly surprised with this new E Washington eatery. Food was pretty good and I like the variety offered. Service was a bit slow, but I went a few times for casual lunches where speed wasn’t a factor, so it was okay. They cannot handle groups, however. I went Sunday with a group of 10 — we called ahead — and hoped to get lunch before I had to meet others at 2 pm. We ordered at 12:30(confirmed by checking phone log for a call made then). At 1:35 I called the waitress over and asked for our food to be made into a to-go order instead. We got our food at 1:45 and were late to the meeting. When I opened my box to eat, my order was incomplete. Our friends who stayed said they saw their plates come up on the counter, but the server let them sit about 8 minutes before picking them up and delivering to the table. My mother said she was just about to get up and get them herself when the server finally went to the counter. The food is good, and I could make this a regular spot if the service were different. But I could see two cooks in the kitchen and not too many tables seated, so the delay is hard to understand.

A nice bar on the Eastside. Went for dinner on a Tuesday evening, the server placed Bell’s Oberon coasters on the table. Yea, I said, they have Oberon! I asked for an Oberon. I might as well have been speaking Chinese! She did not know what Oberon was and they did not carry it. Ordered the basic $ 6 Bud Light pitcher and after drinking a glass, noticed the cracked glass. Food arrived, huge tenderloin! Silverware somewhat stained. The fries were very odd shaped and not completely done. Ketchup was empty on our table and just about out on the next table. Attention to detail just not happening here. They seem to have quite a bit of live music lined up for this summer. However, not sure I’ll be back. I’ve tried it three times and all in all, it’s just ok.

Shorty’s Pub & Eatery is an Eastside strip center pub & eatery located in a space that I believe had previously been a Mexican restaurant and used to have Cici’s Pizza right next door. I ventured into it while running an Eastside errand. While I’d gone by it a few times, mostly on the way to Cici’s, I’d never really thought about venturing in until I became aware of their hosting some music & comedy events. As you can gather from most of the reviews on here, Shorty’s is in many ways your standard pub with a standard pub menu that includes a variety of sandwiches, a handful of actual meals, pizza and, of course, a full bar. I am not much of a drinker, but I tend to enjoy the pub atmosphere when I’ve had a stressful day. However, I tend to prefer non-«meat market» type pubs. This fits the bill. It seemed like the handful of people inside when I arrived at about 5 – 5:15pm were somewhat familiar with one another, but they were also friendly to this outsider. I didn’t see a burger on the menu. That’s hard to imagine given some of the items they do have, but it’s always possible. So, I ordered their hand-breaded tenderloin. You get it with one of their regular sides for $ 8.99. I ordered an unsweetened tea for another $ 1.99. I will make a note that as you go in the double set of doors and enter the pub that you’ll quickly catch on that the actual bar area is not wheelchair friendly. They have a nice sized dining area where you can be served, but it’s still good to know for planning. When I arrived, no one was in the dining area and I do think that likely slowed down my service just a little bit. The actual dining area is wheelchair friendly with a mix of booths and tables. I will admit that a couple bites into the tenderloin that I thought I’d made a mistake. While it was a large and obviously hand-breaded sandwich, the first couple bites were a bit tougher than I like and I thought to myself«There’s no way I want a whole sandwich like this.» Fortunately, after the first couple bites everything was incredibly good. There was a nice amount of breading to the sandwich, though I thought it was a touch on the bland side and maybe made a little more bland by a bun that really lacked the adventure of the tenderloin. It wasn’t the best tenderloin sandwich I’ve ever had, but I definitely enjoyed it and was definitely full when I finished. The steak fries I ordered as my side? They’re unlike any steak fries I’ve had — they almost came out as the shape of your usual chips. It was a unique approach, but I enjoyed them quite a bit. I found both the sandwich and the fries to be right about a 4-star rating. I started off with one server, but she was getting ready to leave upon my arrival and Jeanette quickly took over. There’s no question it was throwing her off a bit to have one customer completely in a different area of the pub, but she was friendly and helpful throughout. I actually thought I wasn’t going to get my usual iced tea refill, but she saved it at the end and gave it to me to go. I found the iced tea quite good, which isn’t always true in a pub setting. For a little over $ 11, I got nice sized meal and a pretty relaxing environment. There were televisions on the wall and a jukebox in the place that was played for a bit while I was there. I have to dock a star because of the accessibility issue and the somewhat off-pace service, but despite that I can easily say I enjoyed myself and the servers themselves were quite friendly. Since I know they host music, comedy, and other special events, Shorty’s is definitely a place I’d visit again but, most likely, unless it’s for a special event it’s not necessarily a meal I’m going to chase down.

Went for dinner and a beer. Beef stroganoff was really good but the portion was surprisingly small. We got the bill and I was sure it was a mistake! They charged us $ 10 apiece for Sam Adams draft. I asked the bartender and she confirmed the price while saying I know it’s expensive… Well thanks for the warning I’m just glad we didn’t have our usual 2 or 3! Won’t be going back!

Shorty’s is a great casual and friendly place. Check out their events calendar for bands and other entertainment like team trivia nights and DJ bingo. Try their specials!

A welcome addition to the East side of Indy. Shorty’s is well lit, friendly and inviting. The menu is pretty much a standard pub menu, but the food, even from a standard menu, is well prepared and served. They have a number of special events throughout the month… music, comedy, trivia, and more. The only downside I can report is that during the Comedy show we were there for, it was packed and they seemed rather shorthanded on the floor, so service was a bit slow. Still, I recognize it’s hard to plan, never knowing how many might show up for an event. A nice pub that we’ll return to.

Very average hole in the wall pub. It’s not always bad to be a hole in the wall, but you need something good. Good food, personable staff, great beer selection… something! They have very few beers on tap, like 3 – 5. The food was average, at best. The fries were awful. Get another side. You get the food pretty fast, since it’s always empty. It’s quick, not good. My server spent most of her time chatting with some guy in the corner. I would have had another beer, if she came back over at some point before I had to leave. Again, it’s just a hole in the wall pub. They just opened, yet somehow it looks like they’ve been there for decades, and all of the staff gave up years ago. No one was rude to me, so I’ll give them two stars. I don’t like giving one star unless the service is appalling. It just seems like they don’t care.

We came in because we were headed to cici’s and it is closed. Wow happy accident. The food is really good. The prices are reasonably. We will be back.

Came in with a group of about 20 and nobody had a single complaint. I had one of their burgers and I compare it to a Steak and Shake party, but much thicker. Very tasty. Friends had wings, black and blue salad and he enjoyed it very much as well. Would definitely come back. Little place trying to establish a clientele and so far I’d say once word really gets out they will be very busy. Band setting up as I type. Something the east side has needed for a while, a place for live entertainment and and good food.

I can only give 3 stars right now. It’s a small bar/restaurant that could become a regular hangout once it gets an identity. It is only 6 weeks old, so everything inside is very generic with no real character or theme. We went in about 9:00 on Friday night and it was empty. See my pictures. They have bands scheduled on a couple nights so the atmosphere might be different then. The food was typical bar food. A little expensive for the quality. We tried the fried asparagus, which was different and when dipped in their chipotle sauce, was pretty decent. The problem was the quantity. Not many spears in a giant basket for $ 7.95. We each had burgers which were cooked a little more than the medium we ordered, but they were fine tasting burgers. They had $ 5 pitchers of domestic beer which was a good deal. Since we live close, we will be back and track their progress towards becoming a place that people talk about.
