After living in Chicago for 5 plus years, it was great to come back to Indy with a true locally-owned Chicago pizzeria! Their meatballs are some of the best I’ve ever eaten – ordered four Large trays for a party and ran out! Several friends ordered the same for their functions – delivered hot and ready to serve over Sterno warmers.

If I could give less than 1 star I would. Never have I encountered such poor customer service by what I can assume was an owner or manager. I ordered online and when I asked at pick up if I could use a zoo book coupon the guy was so RUDE. He said he couldn’t give me the refund b/c I paid online and how hard was it to pick up a phone and order a pizza. If an organization can’t handle the technology of online ordering then don’t offer it and certainly don’t criticize us that love technology just cause u can’t seem to grasp it. On top of the horrible pick up experience I got home to an under cooked deep-dish pizza that I had to put in my oven. But what do u expect by a place that says they can make u a Chicago style pizza in 30 minuets, we all know a true deep-dish takes a least 45. I also got a so so chicken parm that was just covered in so much cheese u couldn’t see the noodles. So long review short, don’t go unless u want crappy food and crappy attitude. NEVERAGAIN!

The owner and staff are super nice. My friends and I forgot ice for our cooler. I tried to buy some from the owner, and he improvised a solution for us for free. It’s great having establishments like this in the community.

There was one person in the restaurant, and we decided to eat our carry out pizza dine in instead and the owner made us leave immediately and was very rude about it. We will not be coming back! The manager was the rudest person I have ever met.

Found this place out of the blue and so happy we did. Great pie, great sauce, great time watching the Warriors. A worthwhile stop for Chicago Style Pizza.

By far the best pizza in all of Indianapolis. I had another perfect Chicago style deep dish pizza this evening. Pizza doesn’t get any better than these guys!

We came here when the brunch place had nothing my kids would eat. So pizza it is. This place was pretty great. The service was quick. The breadsticks I could have done without they seemed to me to have been frozen or something just not homemade which I expected. Lots of parsley on the top so everyone had it in their teeth. Slightly dry so I would not order again. We ordered the deep dish half pepperoni, half spinach and onion. It was delicious. The crust is my favorite part of a deep dish and this did not disappoint. Everyone talks about Girradanos(sp) but I prefer this place. If you are in the area, or looking for good deep dish come here.

I really want to like this place so badly but I’m just not a fan of the pizza. I figured I’d give it another chance last night and order a pie for take out. I’m a huge fan of thin crust, sausage and mushroom. The pizza looked absolutely gorgeous too but the moment I took my first bite I instantly remembered why I didn’t like it the first time either. There is no crisp to this pizza at all; it’s like they need to leave it in the oven longer. When I pick up a slice I want it to not be mush in my hand. Some people are obviously fine with this though; my friend who I shared the pizza with is obsessed with it. It’s just not for me.

I stumbled upon South of Chicago Pizza a couple of years back with some coworkers during the lunch time. We were pleasantly surprised to learn about the lunch specials going on: unlimited deep dish pizza, salad bar, and soft drinks for less than $ 10 — seriously, a huge deal especially if you’re starving. The seating is a bit limited, and the pizza is good, not the best deep dish pizza I’ve had though. I love that they offer the patio for dining outside right along the Cultural Trail to watch passers by. The staff are very friendly in person, on the phone, and during delivery. Overall, a good place, pretty good priced deep dish pizza, and a good location(the Fountain Square location).

DELICIOUS! Best pizza I’ve had in my three years of living in Indy! It wasn’t super fast(but usually deep dish isn’t), it was totally worth the wait! We went with another couple and had a great time. The drinks are self serve so you don’t have to wait on a server to bring them and you can get as many refills as you wish. I gave it four stars because I’ll only give five of the experience is super unique or awesome. The service was good but didn’t blow me away. Food was fed a 5⁄5!

I felt bad ordering 25 minutes before close because a deep dish takes 30 minutes to cook. However they made sure to accommodate me, and the pizza was delicious! Friendly Staff, Great Pizza, and a nice location!

I’ll make a bold statement right now: This is the best deep dish pizza in Indianapolis. I haven’t even tried many of the pizza places that Indy has to offer, but I can guarantee that I wont find one better than South of Chicago. I’ve only ordered pickup from their quaint restaurant on Virginia Ave, but I am always satisfied with my standard purchase of 1 large pepperoni deep dish pizza. I’m one of the few weirdos who doesn’t like pizza crust, but I’ll even indulge and eat theirs! I will say this though… their garlic bread and cheese bread is only sub par. I’ll order a couple of those if I have a large group of people eating, but I generally just stick with 1 pie. This pizza fills you up and I can barely make it through two full slices! Sorry Giordano’s, but South of Chicago is the best pie in town!

After Brickworld we were headed back home through downtown and decided that we wanted to try something new. So, this was a place that was saved to a short list and decided it was time to try. Because it was a Sunday afternoon we were able to find street parking across the street but I could imagine that during busy times it may be a challenge to find a parking spot. Maybe they have a lot behind the building… but I am not sure. The place is a hole in the wall. They have a carry out side and a dine in side. There are a few tables scattered around with a TV towards the back. A girl sat us and told us that drinks were self serve from the fountain. Odd, but at the same time you could get a refill without waiting for your server to come back. She gave us plenty of time to look over the menu which consisted of pizza, pasta, and salads. I decided to go with a basic deep dish pizza with extra cheese. While waiting looked around and the place is well kept and clean. The place is decorated with pictures from around Chicago. When our food came out I was surprised that«extra cheese» really meant extra. So I grabbed a slice and dug in. It was great. Delicious crust, sauce, and toppings. I was very happy. I only did a small I believe 10″ but was not able to finish it all. Which is fine because that meant bringing the deliciousness home. Our server as very nice and attentive to our needs. Just a fabulous place in a trendy part of downtown!

Let me start off by saying I am not a fan of deep dish/chicago style pizza. However, bc this place is close to work, I have dined in and ordered out from this place several times. Before today, I had only eaten their pizza. Typically pretty good, LOTS of cheese(meh), & good seasoning. But today, I tried their lunch buffet. I had salad, pasta salad and pepperoni pizza. Their salad bar was standard, nothing special, simple. Their pasta salad was pretty good, lots of flavor. But… their pizza… woof! The crust was over done, there was hardly any marinara sauce and only a thin layer of cheese. I won’t be doing that again!

Great buffet price: soda, salad, deep dish buffet(with side entrée) — all unlimited, for $ 10.50. I enjoyed the dough and cheese, but thought the sauce was too salty. Full-disclosure: I usually try to restrict salt in my diet so I may be more sensitive to it than others. I did, however, feel that the entrees should be in an enclosed container so that they could stay warm. The upside is so many people are eating that the turnover for any item is fairly rapid. I enjoyed the spinach deep dish the most.

This pizza place was amazing!!! We ordered a deep dish and a vegetarian thin crust and both were delicious! Nothing to complain at all! Besides the food, the place was awesome! I’m from Illinois and seeing Illinois sports teams signs felt like home!

Wow. I just ordered half the menu to try everything. The reviews are too good to be true– They make me wonder if all these«it’s just like Chicago deep dish» reviewers have ever been to Chicago. There’s WAY too much cheese on both the thin crust and deep dish pizzas, making their deep dish more of a stuffed pizza. The thin crust is too thick to be called«thin crust.» The Italian beef is dry and bland. The breadsticks are pretty well seasoned, but also really dry.

Ordered 3 pizzas for delivery for a team lunch. They deliver downtown which is a plus. Ordered 2 deep dish pizzas(pepperoni and sausage) and one thin crust(Italian beef and giardiniera). The Chicago style deep dish was good but thinner than other Chicago style deep dish I’ve had, probably half as thick as Giordano’s. I really liked the Italian beef pizza. Overall really good pizza. I would definitely order from them again.

So got here at noon they open at 11am and the doors were still locked. Not cool. Got inside and it felt like they were still trying to get the place ready for business and they were open for the last hour. The interior of the store was ehhh. And a little dirty. It felt like a ten year old son bedroom with all the posters. The lighting on dining area was a little dark for me. On weekdays from 11 – 2 there is a buffet type thing but it looks once again a little dirty and dingy One order of mozzarella sticks which was basic frozen then deep fried cheese sticks. Nothing fancy there Ordered the 10inch deep dish with Italian meat… The Italian meat is thin slices roast beef. Ultimately not a fan of the roast beef. The pizza however is tasty. Great sauce and good amount of cheese. I would certainly come back for the pizza. But no Italian meat for me.

Six Words… Chicago Deep Dish Pizza Lunch Buffet. I mean… do you need to know anything else about this place to prove its worthy of your time and money? Well, just in case you do… here’s my take. The pizza is pretty good. Not the best Chicago style pizza I have had, but still much better than any of the chain restaurants. The times that I have been there, the crust is usually pretty dry and tasteless, but that doesn’t do much to put a damper on the whole experience. The toppings and sauce are definitely top notch. I have never had much other than pizza there. It’s a pizza buffet, why fill up on pasta and salad? The décor is about what you would expect from any restaurant catering to Chicago ex-pats: Cubs/Bulls/Blackhawks paraphernalia, portraits of Chicago luminaries, and sweeping murals of Chicago landmarks. Very welcoming and definitely puts you in the right mood for good pizza. Overall, it’s one of my favorite lunch spots in Fountain Square. At the very least, you get great value for your money, with bottomless deep dish.

Super happy to have this place in Indy where I can get my occasional Chicago style pizza fix! Great topping selection and prices aren’t too bad. I feared for beverages this might be a domestic macro brew only type. if place, but they had enough local microbrews available on draft and in bottle to keep this beer girl happy. I ducked one star because the service was spotty and I saw another server or manager look visibly frustrated at some customers… I didn’t get the general vibe of welcome from the staff. The food is good enough. that I will return and I can’t wait to try the beef!

I recently traveled to Indy’s new Gino’s because I’ve missed deep dish pizza. With the hassle of the drive(I live downtown,) the price of the food, and the extremely long wait time I realized this meal was in no way worth it. I don’t know why I never tried South of Chicago. I opted for the basic dish — deep dish with pepperoni. I was hungry, so the cheap appetizers were inviting, but I managed to hold off. Pizza came out in about 35 minutes. I was expecting a minimum of 45, so this was a happy surprise. Crust was flaky and soft, but managed to support all the sauce just fine. Was able to sit outside on a beautiful summer day, so I couldn’t have been more content. Server was polite, but fyi: you get your own drinks from inside. Weird, but whatever. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Can’t wait to get another!

My husband’s family is from the Chicago area and always mentions wanting to find a good deep dish pizza place. We decided to go venture and find one for mother’s day this year and took my mother in law here. Going only on reviews on Unilocal,we hoped the place would impress these Chicago people. And it did! First, it wasn’t super busy which was nice and we were given the option to eat inside or out. We opted for outside, it was a very nice day and the guy working at the time quickly went and pushed tables together for us, good start. We explained to him that we had never been there before and he welcomed us and gave us some time with the menu. They did have Sun King and others I believe on draft, nice! We opted to try both their thin crust and their thick crust, because really, we all love pizza and decided a variety sounded good. We got pepperoni and spinach on the deep dish and sausage and olives on the thin crust. Both were fantastic! We all stuffed ourselves silly. It was just so good. Our server stopped by frequently and asked our opinion of everything, he seemed to genuinely want us to leave happy and we did. I am not an expert on Chicago style pizza so I cannot speak about how authentic it was but most reviews and my group agree that this is it. I just really like any and all forms of pizza so I give it two thumbs up. The hardest part of the evening was splitting up the leftovers, we all wanted them. My mother in law is already saying she wants to go back!
