Sunrise Cafe Indy

I brought my mom here for an «unMother’s Day» brunch a week after the official holiday because we are both crowd-​averse. We arrived at 12:30pm on a Sunday and appeared to be the only patrons in the entire place, which was a nice surprise. It’s tucked just inside the Chamber of Commerce Building. The half-​moon booths are a nice amenity, but it otherwise looks like a standard diner. The servers were friendly. My mom loved the Eggs Benedict Florentine and I thought the Cowboy Benedict was also very good. I give them bonus points for eschewing the Coca Cola monopoly and serving Pepsi products. The bathroom is on level 3 of the building and it was locked, which was kind of a bummer. I’m not sure I would go out of my way to come here again since I tried what I wanted to try and like to bounce around trying to places, but if I were nearby and looking for a spot to grab a quick bite, it would definitely fit that bill.

I’m glad I checked this little spot out. I got the cowboy Benedict and it was awesome. The gravy over the biscuits was flavorful! The coffee kept coming. The waitresses were very attentive and friendly. I’ll definitely have to come back and check out more of the menu. They also have a stamp card, if you come 8 times you get your next meal for free. Pretty good incentive!

The good: great, friendly, funny service. breakfast that delivers?! Count me in! Spacious seating with multiple tv’s with the game one. View of meridian street.

The bad: if you’re looking for a turkey substitute for bacon, they don’t have.
My order: On a winter morning with a cold, hot chocolate is the way to go! *with marshmallows of course* along with that, sunrise breakfast sandwich with eggs, bacon, cheese and hash brown but my bread was a little burnt but no worries sandwich was still good. and a chocolate chip hot cake that was large, flat, and just what my stomach was screaming at me earlier for!

Most overrated breakfast place in town. They don’t know how to cook eggs. Never cooked how you ask. Menu is very basic and coffee tastes worse than a kuerig. The bacon is always over cooked with no flavor. I wish there were more options in Carmel

Stops serving breakfast right at 11:00. Waitress told us that we could not order off the breakfast menu at 10:50. The special Valencia salad had old chicken and the soup was from a can. The coffee was subpar. Try Patachou instead!

The people were extremely friendly and accomidatimg to their community. They provided great hospitality to the veterans and leaders of The American Legion.
The food has a home made flavor with great taste. Rasin toast was very good. Best breakfast in Indy.

Legit eggs Benedict. Perfect runny yoke and tasty ham… delicious hollandaise. Had the potatoes, nice crisp on the home fries and they are real good… much better than typical breakfast places.
Suggest expanding the options for Benedicts. This is a real strength. Of course keep focus on quality ingredients.

My husband and I were visiting Indianapolis for a wedding and we were looking for a good breakfast/​brunch spot close to our hotel on a Saturday morning. I came across Sunrise Café doing a little research on Unilocal and we decided to give it a try. We both ordered a breakfast combo that included french toast, eggs, hash browns and bacon. The french toast was some of the best french toast either of us have had, and our waiter was very friendly and attentive (I wish I remembered his name). If every restaurant had waiters as attentive and genuinely nice as him, a lot of their customers would leave happy with just the service alone. Definitely give this place a try for breakfast!

Sunrise is a home run for breakfast or lunch! I particularly love the chicken salad. They also have a variety of breakfast combos that won’t disappoint. The pancakes are especially delicious. It is a well kept secret, but hoping more people will learn about this little gem!

Lovely little place! Great breakfast with good variety on menu. Cinnamon rolls are awesome! Definite go to place!

My husband have gone to the Sunrise Café for at least 10 + years. They use to be up by Keystone at the Crossing. Then moved to 75^th and Shadelanf. The food is above average in my opinion. The pancakes wrapped around crumbled sausage is my favorite. But their burritos are good too. The waitresses are very good about checking back but not to the point of overdo. Recommend eating there definitely!

I discovered this great little breakfast spot due to searching through Unilocal reviews during a recent trip to Indianapolis and I certainly wasn’t disappointed. We were seated near the window of this café and ordered some delicious breakfast foods. I really enjoyed my meal and the service was great too. The view was wonderful and service was quick and seamless. I would definitely return to this café again.
The building being the Chamber of Commerce building is quite old but that makes for a good atmosphere for a café. If you need to use the restroom ask staff for a key and take the elevator (outside the restaurant) to the 3^rd floor. The building architecture is easily noticed upon your trip to the restroom.
Definitely not fancy but the meals are substantial, good and worth eating and when combined with the atmosphere of the building, the views of the park and the cheery disposition of the servers, a visit here is a must.

This a good breakfast spot just a little off the beaten path. For me it is very convenient, the building next door, but it’s a few blocks away from the main drag people wander everyday. I hope it survives…
The food is good, it’s not the blow your mind awesome, but then again there’s nothing wrong with it. I’ve had a few things here and not been disappointed, unfortunately I haven’t been wowed either, which when your a few blocks from the center can be a problem. I’m sure it’s busier Mon-​Fri but on a weekend I’ve never seen anymore that 5 people in here.
The wait staff are definitely friendly and have that perfect level of attentiveness, check on you when they should, but don’t keep coming by and disturbing you!
If you’re looking for something new for breakfast and lunch downtown then certainly check it out.

The moment I walked in I was disappointed by the atmosphere. The room felt like a converted gymnasium complete with a large paneled mirror. It simply did not feel welcoming. The staff seemed about as excited as I was to be there.
The food was alright. Nothing special. I ordered a rueben that wasn’t awful, but certainly not worth the price tag they put on it.

The Sunrise Café is an excellent place to take you and your friends out to lunch if you’ve just recently escaped prison or walked across a desert. The water is wet and the air is breathable.
That’s about where the good part of this ends. The ambiance is like what eating in a bank must feel like. The food is akin to what you’d find in an elementary school.
I’m not even kidding. I ordered a cod sandwich. Now when I say «cod sandwich» you think, «Fish pieces, hand breaded and fried, along with some lettuce, tomato, mayo, and maybe cheddar cheese and onion on a fresh baked bun.»
No. This was literally a square piece of Gorton’s-style frozen fish microwaved and placed between two slices of Kraft cheese and then mashed together between a so-​so bun in a panini press.
The waiter, when asked which he’d choose for a side (fries, fruit, slaw, or chips), said, «The chips aren’t anything special. They’re just out of a bag. I’d go with the fries.»
The fries were okay. But they weren’t salted and the ketchup came in a plastic service container and wasn’t shaken before dispensed. So my ketchup was that goopy, watery, ketchup snot no one likes.
All for $ 8!

Great breakfast. Friendly staff. They’ve been open a little over a month and I’ve already stopped in twice. The last time was with friends and everyone was satisfied.

For the food quality this is a beautiful spot right next to the park. Have to get thru the Ohio street craziness but it’s well worth it. And early morning means you have the place to yourself.

French melt & biscuits & gravy before an early meeting. 4^th floor restroom (restaurant is in lobby) was not super convenient and having to get the key from the waiter felt kinda gas station. That said, it’s probably an old building.
I always hesitate to order biscuits & gravy north of the Mason Dixon, but this was fine. The gravy was particularly good and the biscuit was ok. Hard to figure out if the French Melt was a sandwich or French Toast. Regardless, it was good & large. Hash browns were crisp & tasty. Service was attentive and food came out quickly (as breakfast restaurants should).
Definitely would try this again.

My husband Trevor & I used to frequent the 75^th & Shadeland location almost every weekend until we moved downtown. Needless to say, we were SO bummed to not have a Sun Rise café nearby. But lo and behold, we saw a «Sun Rise Café Opening Soon» sign in the Chamber of Commerce building that’s literally a 1 minute walk from our place and we were beyond excited.
When they finally did open, we discovered that the place was just as awesome as the North side location… if not a little nicer given the brand new décor, mounted wall televisions and beautiful views (which make for great people watching). And as far as the food goes, it’s just as great. As a matter of fact, I tried their cinnamon and pecan rolls for the first time about 3 weeks ago and I’ve gotten either the cinnamon or pecan roll each and every time. Yes, they are that good. And did I mention the quiche? Delicious AND filling. I don’t have enough awesome words for this place. Heck, I’m writing this review im the restaurant as I speak. If you’re in the downtown area before 2:00 p.m. (1:30 pm on weekends), you gotta go!

Remember when Ed & Marge’s Cafeteria was in the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce Building? They lovingly didn’t want you to linger at their place, lest you didn’t get back to work to keep the economy moving along. That place has long since closed and in it’s place is the new Sunrise Café. They have gutted the place to open up a relaxing, almost Zen like sophisticated atmosphere of soft blues and beiges where one cannot help but stay just one more minute (or hour, or day for that matter) to escape the pressures of the day. The staff is laid back and friendly. I was in the mood for comfort food and decided on the Mushroom and Swiss Burger. It was HUGE and JUICY! The house made bun was very soft and delicious too. I will definitely return.
