Advantage Rent A Car

I have been a loyal customer to Advantage LAX for 3 years now. I have used them for business trips 20 to 30 times over this time. They have the best location of any car rental place out of LAX (right next to the freeway exit) and their staff is among the friendliest and most loyal (very little turnover). Tonight I arrived at 11:30 pm and the shuttle took 20 minutes. When it finally arrived it was completely packed. When I arrived at the rental car place it was even more packed. They clearly were not prepared for the crowds that descended on them tonight and it literally crippled them — I have now been in line 45 minutes watching the skeleton staff painfully grind their way towards the last few crumbs of cars left. Irate customers were yelling. The lot boys (all 2 of them) are running like chickens with their heads cut off. This isn’t the Advantage I am used to seeing. My hope is that management can put some more resources on the night shift or else I will sadly have to search for a different rental services in the LA area. Sixt had three shuttles pass while I waited for their one. This is a painful evening here. I hope management is listening to this, if only to save their investment in the nice upgrades they put into the building and vans. Come on guys, you can do awesome things — I’ve seen it– don’t lose my trust in you.

Omg!!! They changed staff merged and the they have 16 computers with only 3 staff working with a line of 50 people no excuse!!! They know when we all come in via our reservation Never rent here been in line for I hour

Absolute worst rental car agency in los Angeles! Third time I’ve used them. Airport shuttles just blow by you for pick up, no one answers the phone, and when you get to the rental counter, the lines are long and there is 1, maybe 2 agents taking care of customer’s with a line in excess of 10 to 15 people. That’s after you just spent 1 – 2 hours waiting on a shuttle!
Absolute poorest management I’ve ever seen. I travel 15 to 30 times a year.

Slowest and worst service ever. Landed in LAX, shuttle bus NEVER came by to pick us up, even after competitors like Hertz and Enterprise circles by at least 4 TIMES. Called the toll free number, found out their customer service is only open on weekdays, eastern time. Spoke with a reservation agent and was advised they «came by». Yeah that didn’t happen. Ended up taking a taxi from LAX to the rental place only to be stuck in line for over an hour and a half.
Lesson learned, I got what I paid for. Never using advantage again, because there isn’t one.

The LAX Advantage rental car location was the worst car rental experience I have ever had.
We arrived at exactly 11pm, the time we had reserved several weeks prior. We were the first to leave the full shuttle bus and the first in an empty line. We had prepaid for a mid-​size car, but we could have accepted any 4-​door sedan.
The lot had dozens of them but EVERY SINGLE ONE had expired tags and was unrentable. This is the fault of management at this location or corporate hq, and mostly not our agent. (Although he could have explained more clearly what was happening so we would be less frustrated.)
Here’s what happened:
After checking in with our agent, he left for a long period of time and we waited and waited without explanation. He finally returned once with a photo on his cell phone to check on the computer to see if that car would be rentable. He told us one of the cars in a certain stall was rentable, so we walked out there… Empty stall.
When we got back to him he said there weren’t any 4 door sedans with current tags in the entire place, so he gave us… a giant suv. We decided to get the smallest car there, a Toyota Sienna large minivan. This car was way too big but we took it. By this time, an hour later than we arrived, every other person in the line after us (and the next bus as well) was served.
on the fourth day of our seven day rental, we saw a «check engine» light that scared us. It didn’t go away despite googling several things and trying them (reset odometer and tighten gas cap). When I called customer service they said «it’s probably fine» but wouldn’t send anyone to fix it, only said I could drive it all the way back to lax to exchange the car. Thankfully it was fine but what if there had actually been an engine problem?

Horrible! Our flight from SLC to LAX WAS SHORTER THAN THE WAIT WE HAD! They had cars available and we still waited for one to b cleaned. Counter help obviously didn’t want to b there.
Use caution in your bill! When returning our car we were charged the insurance after I asked to waive it twice. Even the returning lot attendant admitted they were crooks. I don’t think I’d ever use advantage again after this experience.

Sadly, one of the most ridiculous car rental experiences ever. Waited an hour for the shuttle from LAX. Car was dented and dirty inside. Asked a women in uniform about the dents– she ignored me. I asked her again– she was three feet from me– and she said, «I am off the clock. You need to ask someone inside.» Waited over fifteen minutes for the shuttle back to LAX. The check in guy was fine. The manager when I picked up car was fine– adjusted $ 20 off my rental. But it was not a good experience. Won’t be back to EZ car rental.

The worst. Their website isn’t even secure! Crashes and their customer support?
I was on hold 3 HOURS! First time was 30 min then they disconnected me. No support via email, no support via FB and no support via Twitter. These people are numbskulls. Must be a prerequisite to work in the car rental industry. (See my review of enterprise)

Horrible customer service here! Chijioke was extremely rude and tacked on charges that I didn’t ask for! When I asked him to change them back he gave me more of an attitude and made many rude comments in front of the other customers! He must really hate his job! After this rental I won’t be coming back to advantage ever again!

The worst experience i have ever had in 20 years of frequent car rentals!
— the branch was terribly far from the airport,
— long line, 30 min wait to get to the counter,
— the price from Kayak was not net, you are forced to subscribe additional insurances (CDW+RLP), initial rental cost was 115 $ a week + taxes, assurances 44 $ per day!!! of course you discover that at the counter, you are locked! and can’t reasonably switch for an other rental company all with branches miles away,
— the car was dirty, rear seats disgusting,
— i’ve been charged for the full week despite the fact i was thinking to return it after 5 days, now i finally want to keep it the whole week and was expecting to be only charged for 2 extra days of insurance… NO! i will have penalties if i don’t return the car, the representative didn’t habe time to tell me how much will be the cost, we have been cut, the call droped,
— each call is 20 – 30 min wait before to talk to someone, after 2 calls in 2 days, i still don’t know how much they are going to charge, abusively.
Such a shame! Sincerely shocking to face such a bad/​crook company in well regulated country like USA.

Worst rental experience ever! Waited 20 min for shuttle (while other companies shuttles came 3 times before Advantage). Once I arrived it was a total of 1hr 15mins before I left with a car. There was a huge line and only two employees. A third employee (a very rude black woman) did eventually come. Out of the 10 – 15 groups of customers I was the last to leave with a rental when I has been waiting at the window for over 20mins to the high Mexican guy to finish my rental.
The mab before me kept coming back in because there was a problem with each car they tried to rent him (no keys, super low air in tires). Needless to say, I very thoroughly documented ever single issue with the vehicle before leaving the lot.
This place was not E-​Z nor was there any Advantage to renting here. I would give this place zero stars, but I did eventually get a car.

was considering renting from E-​Z and/​or Advantage but then checked the reviews. Yikes. So many bad experienced. decided to try calling the phone numbers listed and just as stated, got hung up on when I called the LAX office, and the 800 number just rang and rang. I hung up after a half hour. Prices are significantly lower at these places, but I am flying down to LA for business and just can’t risk being late, car breaking down, etc. Seems like it will be more than worth it to just pay a little more than double for the security of Enterprise. They really never fail, and in the slim chance they do, their customer service more than makes up for it.
Amazes me how companies like this stay in business, or how the people running these places keep their jobs.

First time we rented here, we didn’t have any problems. It was late at night, no wait, and the rep matched the online price even though we didn’t have a reservation. Our car had a huge dent in the left side that wasn’t noted when we checked out, but we didn’t get charged for it when we brought the car back, so that worked out ok.
Second time, we made a reservation and arrived at 4pm. The line was insanely long, reps took forever to check out customers, and we waited over an hour just to get to the counter!!! The facility has no seating and no vending machines, we were exhausted and starving and pissed. Reps would walk away for no reason and never come back. Tons of empty register/​stations and not enough efficient staff. We were super frustrated and will probably never rent from them again.

I wish I could put less than 1 star. I’ve rented from them several times, each time swearing I’d never do it again, then deciding to give them another try to see if a different location is different than the last. There is no aspect that is redeeming about this company, accept maybe some (only some) of their employees, for them I feel sorry.
Suggestions if you dare to rent:
1) Take pictures of your car and be sure to mark the problem areas on the ticket and have it signed, KEEP A COPY even after you leave after your trip.
2) If you need a receipt, get one while your on site dropping the car off, don’t expect the location to EVER do anything for you after you have left, it’s possible you can get something out of them but you will be exhausted from trying. It’s standard practice for these companies to email you your recipes, for whatever reason, this one doesn’t follow through.
3) If you think you need to call into the the head office good luck, I’ve put my phone on speaker phone and went back to work, they just kept me on hold.
On the positive side, you can get a nice car at fantastic prices. Just don’t fall into their insurance trap, they will pressure you for a number of add-on’s. Skip these.
Watch your bill, on occasion they will slip in a higher rate than what you were initially quoted. If you leave the lot then catch it, that is when changing it can be a problem, catch it before you leave and it’s easier to keep the rate you initially had. Just make sure you bring a copy of your pre booking rate and confirmation #.

I had a terrible experience renting from them.
First off, my car stalls out while I’m driving it. Luckily I was able to get it to the side of the road. But when I try to call them for a tow, they are impossible to get through to! My friend was able to find a roadside assistance number that I used to actually speak to someone but this whole process still took a while and in the meantime I’m freaking out because I have to be at work.
So they tell me they will send a tow truck in 60 – 90 minutes. I’m parked illegally and they also tell me to leave the keys under the drivers side mat. This made me super anxious that either the car would get towed or someone would steal. I keep calling to check on if it’s been picked up and it ends up taking over 2.5 hours. They never called me back with updates (even though they said they would) so I had to keep calling to check in.
Now I am without a car for the last two days of my trip and it has been impossible to get in touch to find out about a replacement or refund. Absolutely terrible and will never rent from them again.

You get what you pay for, car is not as clean or as low mileage as the bigger companies. The shuttle took forever from LAX and I don’t typically get insurance when renting a vehicle but the car I got had so many dings, dents and scratches that I’d rather pay $ 15 for the CDW than get accused at the end. I was filling up that inspection sheet pretty good so I might as well pay up rather than try to get another car with the same issues since their fleet is not as new.
Overall it’s ok as long as you protect yourself. There’s no curb too high or pothole too deep if you make me buy that insurance. Parallel park behind that truck with a tow hitch you say? No problem. ;)

The facilities were pretty crappy. Just not particularly clean, broken door, looked to be under permanent construction.
Service personality leveled between indifferent and friendly depending on the person you got. Unfortunately, I got the indifferent person at the counter.
I looked at my reservation and it had originally said «Yukon» size and they put me in a Hyundai Santa Fe. I mentioned that but apparently the site was wrong. Offered me a discounted upgrade at about $ 50/​day. I was only paying $ 23/​day.
So not particularly great. It was affordable. Shuttle wait was about 30 minutes from the airport.

I had no problems with Advantage. I drove carefully and got my deposit back and the pickup and drop off went off without a hitch. The shuttle service to and from the airport was most helpful. This was my first time renting a car. It was about $ 100. I thought that was dang cheap. My car was clean. My gal checking me out was very friendly. I had no problems.
I thought I was getting a Ford Fusion and ended up getting a Volkswagen Jetta. Made no difference to me. I went all the way from LA to Joshua tree on one tank of gas. I can barely go anywhere on a tank of gas in my 95 Jeep Cherokee so… to drive that was most pleasant!
There are tons of service stations all around so you can fill up right before you drop the car off.

We almost passed on booking here because of all the poor reviews. People complaining about long lines and bad service. I did what most people do and looked online for the best price. Found a deal for about $ 55 a day for a compact car. Now I know it’s not the cheapest but that’s the best I could find.
We landed on a Thursday. Dealt with luggage claim and headed over to the shuttle pickup. Waited a few minutes and the Advantage shuttle showed up. Driver was kind and talkative and helped with luggage. 5 min drive and we were at their main location.
Not one person in line. (Around 2pm). We walked in and were called up to the counter. The employee was friendly and helpful as well. Kept trying to sell us add-​ons, insurance, GPS, upgrade the vehicle, has, etc. but that’s her job. I did give into the insurance. $ 9 a day for full coverage on the vehicle. Thought that was a steal.
Our car was clean and was almost TOO GOOD on gas (Mazda 5). Returned 5 days. Return took about 2 minutes. Quick inspection, check for gas and bang, «here’s your receipt». Waited 5 minutes for the shuttle and back to the airport we went. Zero complaints here. I would definitely rent with them again.
