My Grandaddy and I had a yummy breakfast at The Serving Spoon. We are sure to return in the near future.

Great food & service but the guy who brings out the drinks was a little shady. When we asked for a little butter he said I’ll tell your server so we had to wait with our food getting cold before our server came to bring something so simple. Today was a test run before bringing my mom. I hope his attitude changes by the time I bring my mom cause I will definitely speak up then if the attitude continues. #theservingspoon

Man this place some great chicken and waffles. I particularly like the fact that the chicken were drummettes. Not to mention the fact that the corn bread is amazing. I have never had corn bread in the shape of actual bread. With each spoonful, the corn bread just crumbled into deliciousness into my mouth. It’s a must try!

Such a great place! We had a party of 8, visiting from TX. We were seated and served quickly. The waiters took their time to explain items to us and answer all our questions. GREATFOOD! I had the catfish, grits, eggs, biscuit and a side of mac & cheese. Sooooooooo good!!! I would definitely recommend this place to everyone visiting Cali!

My boyfriend and I came here during a quick trip to California, and were delighted that we came! Serving Spoon had literally the best macaroni and cheese I have ever had. The service was beyond amazing as well! Serving spoon was so great my boyfriend and I were back, 2 days in a row, during our trip in California. I could not stop thinking about it! Absolutely must get the Mac & Cheese, and I recommend the French Toast with cinnamon as well. If are in a lunch kinda mood go my boyfriend enjoyed the collared greens with black beans. He also had the chicken and waffles that he said were good, but nothing compared to everything else we ordered. We sat with«Scoop» who was very nice, and helpful with recommendations. We also had chicken sausage which came with two. we mixed half spicy, and half regular! So good! Definitely a must go place!

Everything from the service to the food was excellent! We had the pleasure of sitting with ‘Scoop’ who was very accommodating and efficient. The only complaint I have about him is my girlfriend kept commenting about how much she likes his voice –_– haha! I got the chicken and waffles and a sides plate with greens, black eyed peas, Mac n cheese and another side of Mac n cheese lol. Yes I am a fat kid at heart. The Mac n cheese is probably one of my favorite Mac n cheese ever. In fact, I’m sitting here again for the second day in a row ordering another side of Mac n cheese. My girlfriend got the French toast, chicken sausage, grits and Mac n cheese. The French toast was bomb also, grits were ok, but I’m from the south and I don’t expect them to be on grandmas level. Overall, the place has good vibes and great food. Will definitely be back when I come to LA in the future!

We had an amazing experience. The customer service was outstanding. The staff was super friendly. This was definitely, by far one of my most memorable dining experiences of 2016. The food was good but the warmness of the staff definitely warrants a return visit.

The waffle and fried chickens is yummy but I prefer Belgium waffles. The pork chops was yummy too. The price is in the expensive side.

I was here several years ago. I loved it. I left satisfied and stuffed. I found the wait staff to be hard working and very customer-focused. This is where I met Natalie Cole,(RIP). I was in the car leaving and she was getting out of her Range Rover!

Horrible customer service. As I approached to check in the women told me about a 20 min wait. Okay, 20 mins me and my friend can wait. I wanted a Sprite as I waited and it took about 5 mins to get because the had to change the machine. 40 – 50 mins later I kindly ask the women that we’ve been waiting over the approximate time and how much longer it would take. I don’t know if she was offended because she had an attitude. It was unnecessary for her to be upset and she said if you don’t want to wait you can go some where else. Wow! By the way they have signs everywhere of their rules. So much expectations for a diner like this

Good music blaring through the speakers, lively crowd filled rooms and good food being served. This spot is a go to if your craving a home cooked breakfast without any effort on your part. The grits are legit, the cheese eggs with a waffle is pretty good as well. So try this place if you’re in the area or even if you have to commute here, it’s worth it.

2.5 stars… Upon entering I was greeted by a great smile and«welcome honey!» Like we go waaaay back. I chose a seat at the counter as I was flying solo, just in from LAX. I ordered the«Silas» composed of a waffle, eggs, and chicken wings. I’m big on quality of ingredients, and I never got a good feel from this joint. Margarine, Aunt Jamima-esque syrup, and a hydrogenated oil taste permeated eggs and waffle. The best part was the breading on the chicken, Maoist but not too greasy! Price was slightly high, and ambiance is southern lunch counter Waffle House mashup. No working bathroom on the premises precluded my options for pre-dining hygiene. The bright spot for this joint is the people, both customers and staff… if you stop in, ask for Lauren, she was great!

Breakfast bipolarity at its best, with wide choices of southern favorites and american classics to satisfy the morning pine for food. The serving spoon offers both healthy(high protein, low carbs) and arguably unhealthy meals, making it the perfect choice for travelers staying within then LAX hotel complexes. I definitely was pleased that I avoided the local IHOP and Denny’s and choose this place instead. Although slightly pricier, the food portions is prodigious. The parking might be a little bit of an issue, since there aren’t many within its private lot– hence coming as early as 7am(when they open) would be a wise choice, there is of course the choice to park on the street side, but there are no promises. The restaurant itself is easy to locate and a mere 10 – 15 minutes drive, I depended on my google maps app, and it definitely got me safe and sound there. I had quite a pleasing experience here, opting for the hearty(more unhealthy) option for breakfast. I ordered the Elias $ 10.25, a deep fried chicken breast burger served with fries and coleslaw, the Silas $ 12.75, chicken and waffles, and finally a mushroom omelette $ 8.35 with a side of buttered rice and corn bread. I have to admit the food although delicious was not perfect or memorable, for example the fries that came with my meal was extremely soggy(I wish it was more crispy), while the fried chicken although perfectly crispy, was not the most tasty southern fried chicken Ive tasted possibly due to some southern seasoning being absent. I did however appreciate the juiciness of the friend chicken. I did feel that the price was a little steep for the average breakfast restaurant $ 10 and above per person, however the taste of the food, coupled with the portion would deem it fair for the price. The service overall was friendly, but at the same time could have been more genuine and friendly, I felt at times that the male server was a lacking in enthusiasm and thus made me feel almost unwelcome, I did not fully experience the famous southern hospitality. The interior has clearly aged since the 70’s and its in expiring need of updating, however the establishment is kept clean and looks decent. The serving spoon is definitely an above average place to have breakfast within the LAX vicinity to please the morning hunger. The restaurant also offers high protein option, especially for the gym muscle freaks looking for a 40 – 50 grams protein healthy boost while keeping the carbs low.

My west coast«Goody Goody». I love the Spoon! Serving the best chicken & waffle combination in the LA area. Yeah… I said it! I realize there are many options and I’ve tried plenty The Serving Spoon just gets it right. The chicken is tender to the touch, juicy to the bite and tantalizing to taste. This is good southern style breakfast. Staff is friendly, fast and no-nonsense. BEWARE: They do not seat partial parties. If your entire party is not there at time of seating your ass will be bypassed NOQUESTIONS asked. The place is in high demand people. I recommend arriving as soon as they open to secure a table and parking space(which is scarce). Otherwise you’ll be parking a block away and waiting in excess of an hour. Thank me later, ~Christy

Perfect time to visit The Serving Spoon is early Saturday morning, You get to seat yourself and no wait time. Friendly workers … I ordered the French toast plate with chicken drumettes aka«The Hernandez» on the breakfast menu. Babe got the spicy beef sausage with sides of mashed potatoes n gravy, chilli, and a slice of corn bread. I really enjoyed the French toast, the chicken drumettes, however, were not my favorite(they look better than they taste). I wish they were more seasoned and crispy. The chilli was also very good, but not so much the spicy beef sausage. The sausage was not spicy at all. I love southern food, but I don’t think I will come out of my way and make the drive to visit the Serving Spoon in the near future. If I am in the area, I may give them another try.

Fantastic amazing wonderful! And that’s just the service and staff! This was a total win for us and big props to Unilocalers! We just left and I had to post a review immediately! The food was also out of this world. I had«The Cookie» which was a Waffle(definitely add cinnamon) and fried chicken drumsticks. The waffle was large and thin, which was cooked perfect. The chicken was the VIP of the meal. Perfectly seasoned and juicy inside with a crispy outside. I didn’t want to chicken to end. Add in a glass of Muddy Water(lemonade and tea) and it’s the ideal meal. The best part– everyone was so friendly and attentive, which made us feel so welcomed. We will be back whenever we are down in LA area, no doubt. Best meal you can get for breakfast.

Oh how I hate to do this. The food is still amazing. However now having been here on a weekend twice, The Serving Spoon has been knocked off their pedestal. The service was flat out horrible. Two separate Saturdays! I understand this is a popular restaurant with not a lot of tables so I expected a wait. But after a hour, I at least expect better service once I’m seated. Nope! First off the hostess had no idea what she was doing. She sat 2 people at four tops, skipped over people on the list, etc. Just flat out horrible. Unfortunately our group was one of the groups that got skipped over. She claimed she called for our table twice but no joke we were less than 10 feet from her. She didn’t call our name. I’ll hand it to the manager, he stepped in right away and got us seated once we got a little loud. Wait staff is too overwhelmed. They also don’t seem to have any specific assigned sections. We had a different server for everything. We had 4 different people helping us. It was a clusterf@%k! Still everyone was very friendly. Kind of weird. On weekends, the trade off I guess is really good food but really bad service.
