It’s A Long Way To The Top! The boys of AC/DC truly said it best, it is indeed a long way to the top and this next place we stopped by doesn’t stand a chance against the competition. I was hoping for an authentic Mexican place to open up, but unfortunately, got the complete opposite. And by complete opposite, I mean Taco Bell is a better option and I cannot stand that place. One of the newest places to open and joining the Mexican Restaurant forces is TC Taco located in Inver Grove Heights. Just a small little spot on the end of a strip mall, TC Taco is, according to their website, «South of the boarder flavor, with a Minnesota twist.» Not sure where the south of the boarder flavor was and the Minnesota twist must be the??? I can understand that, not even being open for a full weekend can be a struggle, but I have to assume that they’ve been doing some testing in the kitchen to figure out what they want to actually serve and place on the menu. So, if that is indeed the case, they didn’t do enough testing! We ordered 2 beef tacos, one with a hard shell and the other with a corn tortilla, as well as a chicken taco on a corn tortilla and a steak taco in a flour tortilla. The beef had absolutely zero flavor, the steak was something like a flavorless No Name Steak(I love No Name Steak, just not in Mexican food) and the chicken was just chicken. Every taco comes with your choice of meat, onions, lettuce, cheese and green and red bell peppers cut the long way. Together, it just doesn’t work! I would get rid of the steak and replace it with a pork option(hopefully the chef can cook it correctly), I would learn how to make delicious tasting beef and take out the peppers, lettuce and cheese and replace with cilantro. As for the prices, well, if it was worth eating the prices wouldn’t be bad. However, paying $ 3.99 for 1 steak taco that isn’t even good doesn’t make sense and it feels like you’re getting’ ripped off. I can go to one of my favorite places, La Palma Supermercado and spend $ 4.99 for 3 insanely delicious pork(or another meat option of your choice) tacos that are prepared perfectly. So, where should you go to find outstanding Mexican food? Check out my review, Mas Tequila, Por Favor!(Head over to my blog) which will provide you with some amazing places to get some of the very best AUTHENTIC Mexican food around the Twin Cities. I just don’t understand why people continue to Americanize foods from around the world, it doesn’t make sense to me at all. The likely hood that TC Taco will serve better quality food in 6 months, a year or even longer is probably slim. I will stick to my hot spots which also includes making my own tacos at home which is a far better option.

I had high hopes for TC Taco but have been very disappointed each time. Have went their four times and food is always lukewarm and soggy. I make better tacos at home. Heck, Taco Bell makes better tacos. Price to food ratio is way off. Everything is quite expensive and on par for what you pay at a sitdown restaurant. Quality on par with dog food. Definitely do not recommend. Have to imagine TC tacos time in IGH will be coming to and end fairly soon. My suggestion to TC Taco is to hire cooks who care about the food and to get higher-grade food. The people you have back there now definitely do not.

Very bad food. Rice dry and not cooked completely. No salsa. Being boiled on stove. Will not go back.

I was extremely disappointed with my third trip to th is place. The only reason is it tasted like my taco meat was reheated in a microwave. It tasted like left overs do the next day. The flour shells were gooy and not cooked. I’ll give it one more try but if it’s the same I guess I have to call it for TC Taco

There food isn’t authentic at all. Really mushy tacos, sauce was bland, and meat was pretty gross. I will not be coming back.

This is a clean little taco place where you can grab a home-style taco and have it any way you want. Options include, ground beef, chicken, fish, veggies, soft, hard, and even deep fried. I really appreciate that you can watch the cook prepare your food as the grill is in full view and you can see them preparing fresh ingredients while you wait. The flavor of the meat was tasty and the salsa was fresh and just right. There was no grease dripping out of this taco and running down my arm which does happen sometimes when I indulge at one of my other favorite taco joints. I do not recommend the cheese sauce as it was bland! I ordered some potatoes as a side and they were just those round tater tots and not that good. They have a lunch special, two tacos and a side with soda for 5.00 during certain hours of the day. I would say that is the best value!

My family and I ate here and enjoyed the food. It was very fresh tasting and we felt good afterward(unlike some fast food where I have an upset stomach 5 minutes after eating it). My wife had 2 hard shell chicken tacos, oldest son had a cheese rollup, I had one of each fish, chicken and veggie soft shell tacos, and we shared a vanilla shake and side of guacamole. Again, very fresh tasting and flavorful. No grease! My only recommendation would be to provide a side of chips and salsa, or slightly larger portions, perhaps. Our bill was $ 22 and both my wife and I were still a little bit hungry when finished. The staff was very warm and friendly, despite the chaos and commotion we bring with a 10 month and 3.5 year old. The cleanliness of the facility was average. We will definitely eat here again. I am looking forward to trying the burritos.
