To be honest, this higher rating is probably influenced by nostalgia. My family used to live just a block away from this store from the time I was born to when I was 6.5 years old.. and I still come here pretty regularly. One of my first shopping memories are from inside these walls. . It’s a pretty decent store though, in all honesty. Even though the company has been struggling for years, and the wear and tear on the building/operations is evident, it still tries to keep afloat and the employees don’t seem to have given up or hate their jobs yet. Unless some majorly drastic happens *knock on wood*, I don’t plan on taking this off my list of places to shop when I’m in town!

The only reason I visit K-Mart is because I don’t want to drive across town and deal with the madness of Wal-Mart… Every time I go, I see the same thing. Clothes thrown everywhere, not folded, half hanging off hangers, on the floor, not properly placed. Every item almost down to the last in stock. Items misplaced. Only one register open. No one helping at all. Maybe because it’s located in a bad area, or because they are under staffed. Who knows! I am almost disgusted that someone is paid manager salary to let their store look like such a dump. This place would be much more appealing if it was well kept. Cmon, shirts staying unfolded for weeks at a time is unacceptable! Who would buy a shirt that has been on the floor for weeks? Get a manager who will up keep this store, otherwise it’ll lose the little business it still has.

This place is a hell hole. The only reason I ever walk in here is because I absolutely refuse to contribute to the downfall of America we call Walmart. Even then, I still try not to go here. Items are never where you expect them to be and there is little to no selection of the items you do want. Finding help is pretty much nonexistent. You won’t find an employee anywhere on the floor and I’ve found myself having to go to the front and waiting around just to ask a question which should have been answered in an aisle or via call button(which they also don’t have). The employees have no desire to help… at all. I honestly have never seen so many different people at one store(when you do see them) scan items at a check out THAT slowly. They simply don’t notice their surroundings that may include a line getting longer or the number of items said customers have. Or care to act even if they did. With multiple checkouts available, there is normally only one open regardless the length of line. Honestly, if there were a zero star option I would give it that. Management here got their degrees from their own Blue Light Special — do they even have that anymore? Anyways… If you’ve given up on life completely and just don’t care anymore but still want to seem like a productive citizen by having a job… do apply. You’ll fit right in. I will have to say though — perhaps they do earn the one star they’ve received from me simply due to the fact that it’s wide open inside. You can shop without the stresses of numerous other customers. There are usually only maybe 4 – 7 other people in the store at a time(which speaks for itself). Also, who needs the stresses of a busy department store when there are plenty of inherent problems with organization, lack of management, and pokey employees to deal with instead? I guess you could say overall that someone really just dropped the ball, and then just stared at it. It’s still there by the way, and stories are told to this day of the man who never cared to pick it up.

How is it that no matter which Kmart I venture into in a 15 year timespan, whether across town, varying towns, or even a different state altogether, there seems to be one thing in common: Kmart is a complete, unorganized mess of a store with team members who operate under the false assumption that time has stopped. Usually there is only one lane open and the checker has no urgency of any kind moving customers through the line. This store is like a hell on earth. I think they are only still in business by default that there are only a couple of options for department stores in all of Coralville/IA City.

This place is really not all that classy, but when I lived in Iowa City it was closer than Coralridge Mall so I went here when I needed to. I was back in the area on the Saturday after Thanksgiving so I stopped by. Not much has changed. The store always seems to be in a bit of disarray. Maybe they had yet to recover from the Black Friday madness, but there were a lot of items in the wrong place. The aisle ways are crowded with extra displays making walking and carrying items more difficult. I just don’t think Kmart has a great selection of items either and that’s mostly why I don’t like shopping here much. All that said, I’ve never had a problem with the employees here and they are always kind.
